Nottsview gains no financial rewards from Google, there's no advertising, hence there's no advantage to gained from encouraging comments to boost any algorithms but I do understand making comments helps some readers engagement with this blog and the goings on at Trent Bridge and also allows many to vent their feelings when things don't go as how we'd hope on any particular day.

Many we have noticed that some threads of comments extend into dozens of comments, many of which are made anonymously, but sometimes one anonymous will be talking directly the opposite views of another anonymous. This can be confusing to follow for anyone else to read and to monitor (when at times things get too heated and lines are crossed), as the administrator.

What are readers views on this?

Is it too "techie" for readers to make an account with google, perhaps under a nom de plume if necessary?

This would allow me to block anonymous comments entirely in the software settings.

The spammers, usually Indian betting websites or Asian cricket equipment retailers, appear to able to make accounts at the drop of a hat, but they are easily deleted from the comment threads.

There is a trick used by many to get around the google account requirement in the drop down comment field, instead of like now chosing the anonymous option, chose URL/username, then make-up something random or to your choice and then leave the password blank and currently it will allow you to comment - give it a try.

Alternatively, I can leave the the settings as they currently are and just delete any comment that is completely anonymous without an author's identifier somewhere in the comment - warning this might lead to the loss of your heart felt opinions or an example of your immaculate logical thinking if you're posted it without a name.

Please tell me your preferred option.

Can't imagine anyone wanting to use a nom de plume 🤣, but tend to agree that there is a value in all comments being attributed to an entity, rather than the confusion of multiple anonymouses.

Please share your thoughts, but if you're using the anonymous option, please leave a name in the comments (to avoid confusion). Thanks.
