Kunal Manek has today moved-on from being Analyst with Notts CCC after 9 seasons to be part of the England Development team.

MO-MU

I note that the BBC and Rothesay both have Mohammad in their reports of yesterday, even Pravda has switched to Mo.

Before I start this time filler, I mean no disrespect to anyone and if you do have some clear insight into this please comment below.

There are two cricketers on the International circuit both with the same name:

Mohammad Abbas (Pakistan and currently playing for Notts)
Muhammad Abbas (New Zealand) - who was also born in Punjab

According to cricinfo, Mohammad Abbas was born in the Punjab. Mr Google tells me that the most widely spoken language in that region is Punjabi, which writes to Mr Abbas' name as

ਮੁਹੰਮਦ

which translate back to English as Muhamada

Mr Google also tells me that the English spelling for the name is usually Muhammad however Mr Google also states that the different transliteration of the name can be an indicator of origin of an individual.

Mohammad (most likely) from Pakistan
Muhammad (most likely) from the Middle East

Mr Google also states the obvious fact that people don't change the spelling of their name when they travel from country to country.

So why do the on screen displays and scoreboards at Trent Bridge, Durham and Headingley all give the Muhammad spelling?

Is it spellcheck glitch?

Perhaps Matt Freeman should ask Mo directly for Pravda.

I also found this on the web

So we all know that there are many different ways to spell Muhammad, with variations mostly on the vowels and either a single or double in the middle. If we go further afield we will find many more different spellings of Muhammad, some very different such as: Maome, Mahoma, Maometto. Any Arabic name will of course produce multiple spelling variations when transliterated into Latin characters, but Muhammad seems to create many more than other names.

Ok nobody likes to be beaten, but last year losing had become a habit at times. Accompanying those defeats invariably would be a Peter Moores summary on Pravda.
Winning in 2025 has meant that fans of Peter Moores and his Mooresisms have been getting withdrawal symptoms, being reduced to picking themselves off the deck for no apparent reason or excessively dusting themselves, others or random objects down.

So this morning we can watch Peter on Pravda reviewing a great game of cricket, taking it on the chin (repeatedly), showing no lack of effort and coming back again on Friday.

Maybe you'll have better luck finding the Women's Rothesay County Championship table than I did - so why Men, Men, Men.... if there's no Women, Women, Women...

Just the work of some woke individual being crass, crass, crass...

Rothesay County Championship Div 1

Let's enjoy it for as long as it lasts, Nottinghamshire are top of Division One of the Rothesay County Championship.

Changes to the team will naturally happen and even before our next game against Hampshire at Trent Bridge on 9th May; Fergus O'Neill has now played his permitted number of games and will be replaced, but what an inspired recommendation from Dave Hussey it was! Fergus leaves Trent Bridge as leading wicket taker in the division, has given everyone in the squad and in the crowd at Trent Bridge an extra surge of positivity and has shown how a seam bowler can bowl his overs in good time in a competitive spirit and with a smile. In addition to that he's contributed useful lower order runs at times and earned Notts additional batting bonus points. Come back soon Fergus!

If and when Mohammed Abbas arrives as the next overseas bowler in a patchwork of International talent this summer at Trent Bridge, will those bargain hunters that bought one of those 2020 Championship replica shirts with Mo's name on in 2021, 2022 and possibly into 2023 at discounted prices, feel vindicated? He is a proven Championship wicket taker, so hopefully he'll help maintain the momentum that Notts have gathered, however...

The spanners in the works are clattering, the flies in the ointment are buzzing around and those snags are lining-up to be hit:

  • Ben Duckett, and presumably Josh Tongue will be part of an England (International) pre-season bonding exercise during the time of the Hampshire match, will we see either again this summer?
  • There has been no news of Dillon Pennington's nor Conor McKerr's injuries, neither has there been news of either's recovery.
  • The Little Wizard, Farhan Ahmed, who has a talent of making things happen out of thin air, will surely be part of the Young England ODI and Test plans with fixtures this summer against India and Bangladesh, so won't be available for four Championships rounds (v Yorkshire H, Somerset A, Hampshire A, Worcestershire A) at least.
  • Mo Abbas is to play, or be available to play in six rounds of the Championship, that still leaves a black hole of four rounds where no announcement has been made and I don't think we're now in any position to wing-it this time Mick!

What a potential roller coaster of a season for Notts
Even the unknown unknowns are not known !
    ( thank you Dr Kissinger)
At least the lads have made a good start .
So many opportunities and so many Different matches and leagues to play . It must be virtually impossible these days to have a settled 4 day side .

  2. I did ask a question at the AGM regarding our overseas player plans for the so-called "black hole of four rounds where no announcement has been made". The reply from the top table was that our plan would depend on a number of factors - our injury situation, the opposition's strengths and weaknesses, the nature of the pitches we'd be playing on, the likely weather forecast and, not least, the availability of target overseas players for the matches in question, all this against a background of Kookaburra usage. The impression was that serious consideration and planning would be going into this (as you would hope) and, given our promising start and the factors mentioned above, the recruitment of a player suitable for the games and conditions in this four-match section will be a crucial decision.
