v Glamorgan CB40 2012

Dai Llewellyn sets Outlaws too stiff a target

After a somewhat lackadaisical display Notts slipped to a narrow two-run defeat under the Vera Duckworth method at Swansea yesterday.
Elstone and Carter came in for Ball and Gurney on a spinner’s wicket which had been used for the previous four day game against Gloucestershire.
Fletcher still sadly completely out of shape was a poor selection and he bowled a very mixed fare opening up from the Mumbles End; Patel meanwhile continued his mediocre bowling efforts from last Wednesday. The end result was that Glamorgan raced off at six an over from the first six overs on a wicket where 180 looked a winning total.

Redfern rescues Sheep after Shreck attacks.

Tony Palladino's 7/53 set up a challenging run chase over the last day and a half for Derbyshire at Derby against Kent.

After rain disrupted proceedings on Saturday, Derbyshire looked well set on 197/2 on Sunday needing 295 but then the Cornish Giant, Charlie Shreck struck taking four wickets.

Dan Redfern then steadied the ship and is currently guiding the Sheep to an important win against one of their nearest rivals for the Division 2 title, 286/8 at lunch. After lunch, Sheep won by the 2 wicket margin.

England's Innings in the test fizzled out after KP was out LBW to the second ball of the day, 425 all out.

Barrels of fun for Durham

Division One strugglers Durham pulled-off a surprise win over Australia A who managed a Durham-style collapse of their own; crashing from 99/0 to 123/5 and then 160/5 to 188/9, eventually ending 204 all out. Ian Blackwell, the rotund Spirite took a career best 7/52. Durham won by 19 runs.

At Derby, Charlie Shreck snared a five-fer 5/41 for Kent, grabbing wickets in clutches as he did at Trent Bridge, he took the top 3 and then the bottom two batsmen.

Somerset need 279 to beat Lancashire at Liverpool, 14/1.

Middlesex currently have a lead of 177 with 7 wickets in hand against Bears at Uxbridge.

Taylor in, Swann out

Graeme Swann has been excluded for the first time in 43 tests; either because of his troubled elbow or because of the need for speed in Steven Finn.

James Taylor has been included in the eleven to maintain the Notts ratio however.

Good of them to let debutant take part in the toss...

More Wednesday night woes!

NOTTS ALL IN A SPIN
Notts were defeated by Surrey by four wickets with 23 balls unused on a slow-turning pitch at TB last night.
With Carter rested, Fletcher clearly some way short of match fitness seemed a strange choice over Scott Elstone and Jake Ball never bowled a ball all night.

Fletcher to Return?

CB40 regular
After 3 games for the Seconds, Luke Fletcher is being penciled in to play against Surrey Lions tomorrow.

In the corresponding reverse fixture between the two sides; Outlaws won easily, Darren Pattinson doing critical damage with the ball and James Taylor hitting the winning runs off - neither of these two play tomorrow.

Notts go top with Bears

As expected the featherbed pitch was only winner at Trent Bridge as the match ended at 1715 with Sussex 36 runs ahead with five wickets intact and 11 overs to bowl. The eleven bonus points gained from the match ensured that Warwickshire and Notts are neck and neck at the top in terms of points but The Bears have a crucial game in hand.

Day 4 at Trent Bridge (and Edgbaston)

The fourth day starts with Nottinghamshire and Warwickshire level on points needing to take 10 wickets to win their corresponding games.

Division One at the end of July 2012

Sunday 29 July 2012

Bat dominates ball

This game seems destined to become a bore draw, as in the 68 overs bowled during a showery day not a single wicket fell. Indeed it is now 88 overs since Lumb was bowled at 1629 yesterday, the last wicket to fall. The bat completely dominant over ball.
The big talking point of the day was James Taylor surprise call up to the England squad for the Headingley Test; whether he plays is still up in the air as England may opt for five bowlers. He celebrated his call up by adding 57 runs off 63 balls as Notts declared their innings on a massive 520 for four declared. Taylor (163*) and Voges (44*) unbroken 5th partnership had added 148 runs in 49 overs.
