Durham step closer to Victory

Durham are strong favourites to win today having a lead of 341 runs with three second innings left.
Given their cautious approach to batting late last night they may even bat briefly today; but if Onions shows any of the form he showed on Thursday they should win the game comfortably.

Day 2 v Durham LV= 2012 Onions 9

A superlative bowling effort from Graeme Onions put Durham on top at Trent Bridge today.
Onions not required by England got to Trent Bridge ready for the afternoon session; he subsequently took nine wickets for the best figures on the ground since Mushtaq Ahmed bowled Sussex to the championship and condemned Notts to relegation in the final game of the 2006 season.

Durham LV= Day 1 at Trent Bridge 2012

Notts won the toss and put Durham in on a green, muddy-coloured looking wicket. The humid atmosphere would have been good for swing bowling, had it not been windy but nevertheless Notts made inroads into the Durham batting before the forecast rain arrived.

v Somerset CB40 at Taunton 2012

Bu-spin-ess as Usual!

Business as usual for Notts; spinning pitch and another loss as they were humiliated in the Taunton sunshine yesterday.

Outlaws bullied by Rehman and Trescothick

Outlaws all in a spin, for the third CB40 match in a row - the main architect of the destruction Abdur Rehman (sack that Home Office official that eventually issued the Visa, a week too early for Notts)

Early doors, Riki Wessels had taken the attack to Somerset but once he'd perished for 53 there was little else until Graeme White offered some late resistance with a career best knock.

Outlaws 206/9
Riki Wessels 53
Michael Lumb 41
Graeme White 39 not out

Abdur Rehman 6/16

Somerset targeted everything from the off and raced towards victory at more than 10 runs per over. Opener, the South African England International, Craig Kieswetter smashed a rapid 44, out on his 23rd ball faced but Trego and Tresco maintained the slaughter . Man of the month, Graeme White took a couple of wickets and the mayhem eased only slightly as Notts Outlaws headed towards an embarrassing defeat. A brief glimmer of hope was offered by a brace of Carter wickets but it was all too little, much too late.

Not for the first season, come this time of year and its typical wickets, Notts look ill-equipped to compete in any competition. Today's defeat however is down mainly to Abdur Reyman; England could cope with him last winter and Notts struggled likewise today. Trescothick then just bullied the inexperienced Outlaw attack.

Somerset 209/5 (64 balls to spare)
Marcus Trescothick 87 not out
Craig Kieswetter 44
Peter Trego 26
Jos Buttler 26

Andy Carter 3/48

Time to change things Mr Newell - this isn't working!

At Hove, Sussex have leap-frogged Notts to second in the championship with an eight wicket win  (21 points) over Middlesex, with a day to spare.

Damage Limitation v Somerset LV 2012

Just as the game was shaping into one where Somerset were secure but Notts could crumble and  lose, Adam Voges in his first over removes James Hildreth for 83.

Happy Birthday Chris Read, 34 today!

Somerset lead by 69 with 2 wickets left

Bears meanwhile are cruising to victory and with 2 draws against Notts, the Championship. 117/1, 143 more runs needed.
