With a band of rain currently approaching Nottingham from the South West a CB40 match looks doubtful for Trent Bridge against the Glamorgan Welsh Dragons later today.

But with the opposition's un-secret weapon in the armoury, Duckworth Lewis, a CB <30 looks possible from the radar pictures at this moment, 3 hours before the due start time as the band of rain looks to be fanning out and breaking-up as it reaches Birmingham.

So the only teams to beat Outlaws this year in the T20 met in the final. Tykes were without their match winning bowler, Mitchell Starc for the day but had bussed-in Bresnan from Lord's. Hampshire used their guile and experience, as they did against an inexperienced Outlaws in the Quarter finals, to just about edge the final. 

In all three games, the player of the match's highest score's team lost the game, interesting, highlighting that sometimes more really is less.

Mick Newell's massive headache over Notts' final LV= match of the season against Warwickshire just got a bit bigger. The match that could still decide the championship will see an England squad trio of Trott, Bell and Woakes all potentially returning to swell the Bears' ranks  but conversely sees Notts losing to England; Broad, Swann, Patel, Lumb and Hales. On top of that problem it has been revealed today that Adam Voges will also miss that game, being called home by Western Australia for presumably pre-season training.

NottsCCC.co.uk suggests that the D of C looking for an overseas replacement; good luck with that sir, we only had Voges in the T20s and no one in April and for the most of May.


The comedy doesn't stop there; former Notts player, one half of the comic Laurel and Hardy opening partnership from a couple (or more) of years ago. Jefferson / Wood has retired, namely Will Jefferson, due a hip injury - probably due to his massive frame of 6 foot 10 ins.

However Monty Panesar struck back with 6/77 and Chris Nash 3/45 as Somerset were spun out for 195, leaving Sussex with a target of 164. They were 31/0 at stumps.

At Edgbaston, Middlesex currently lead by 305 with 5 wickets left, Dawid Malan 138*, a draw looking likely there, without captains talking to each other.

There is a strong possibility that Sussex could be top after tomorrow but Rehman might have his own ideas about that or will the weather have have the final say, not for the first time at Taunton.

Proof that  84 + 71 really is greater than 102; those being the contributions of Michael Lumb, Chris Read and Mark Stoneman as Notts Outlaws beat Durham Dynamos by 43 runs, the game ending in the 79^th over of the hot, sunny, humid day. 

CB40 Squad includes Pattinson

The usual names feature minus the two Leicestershire signings from last year, Taylor (Test duty) and Gurney (Injury) but plus Scott two tons this week Elstone. Patto's name is included in the squad - he did bowl 6 overs last Monday and he did perform bottle and twelfth man duties for the Durham Championship defeat.

Unlike the Bears Notts haven't taken in any loanees to cover for absentees, rather the reverse:

Swann, Broad, Taylor, Patel, Hales have all been loaned to England at one time or another this season.

Academy settle for a winning draw against Mark Nelson's Papplewick

The Nottinghamshire Academy are the side in second and took 16 points from their draw against Papplewick; they struck the days largest total when they declared after 46 overs with 295 for 2 with Scott Elstone starring with an unbeaten 109 from just 68 balls with 11 fours and 6 sixes and he shared a stand of 149 for the second wicket with Hassan Azad (94) after Sam Kelsall went for 46. Papplewick may be in tenth spot but they will have taken confidence from their reply of 233 for 6 from their 54 overs in which Mark Nelson took much of the credit with 132 from 145 balls and Elstone rounded off a good day taking 3-52.
