Fletcher out with "knee trouble"

Get well soon Luke!
Notts' website has belatedly stated that Luke Fletcher is currently injured (as is Ben Phillips) but is likely to return from his knee trouble, having recently been in the nets.

So, having not played since April, Notts announce Luke is now injured, on 6th June .................. "pull the other one", the bells indicate an injury!

Having brushed that under the carpet, the club announced the eleven to face the reigning champions in the LV= game at Trent Bridge; Riki Wessels, Alex Hales, Michael Lumb, Samit Patel, James Taylor, Adam Voges, Chris Read, Paul Franks, Andre Adams, Harry Gurney, Andy Carter.

Lancashire are fresh from their Duckworth Lewis win over the Pears yesterday where Vikram Solanki and Phil Hughes both scored tons but were on the losing side!

9 wickets lost, third top scorer was Mr Extras - tells you of the contribution of the other 9 batsmen!

Life after Notts

Dumped by Notts at the end of 2011; Akhil Patel, younger brother of Samit, is still looking for a professional contract. One avenue of search for new employment has taken young Akhil to Wantage Road where he had a game for their seconds against Derbyshire.

17 May 2012

Matt Lineker starred with a century on the final day of the Second XI match versus Northamptonshire – and Derbyshire were just one wicket short of victory at the death.
The Derbyshire left-hander finished 102 not out as AJ Harris’s men declared their second innings on 221-5 (Tom Knight 46), setting the home side 286 to win from a minimum of 72 overs at Milton Keynes.
After reducing Northamptonshire to 142-7 from 50 overs, Derbyshire bowled 28 unsuccessful overs at the Academy duo of Duckett, who scored 95, and Findley; only for the pair to fall in successive balls at the start of the final over of the day, bowled by Garry Park.
The Derbyshire Captain, who finished with figures of 3 for 31 from nine overs, was unable to force the final breakthrough in the three balls that followed, meaning Lineker’s earlier century – and exceptional figures of 2 for 5 from eight overs from Jonny Marsden – went unrewarded.
Tom Knight followed his earlier heroics with the bat with 2 for 35 from 17 overs. There were no wickets for Mark Turner and Ally Evans.

Derbyshire took nine points from the match; their opponents eight.
Day 2 Report...
Derbyshire’s 2nd XI enjoyed the better of Day Two in their 2nd XI Championship contest against Northamptonshire at Milton Keynes.
The hosts resumed 20 without loss in the morning in reply to Derbyshire’s 244 and began well with Ben Howgego and Akhil Patel taking Northants to 92-0.
However the loss of Howgego (34) and Patel (53) in quick succession signalled a collapse, with John Marsden (3-55), Garry Park (2-15) and Mark Turner (2-38) the main contributors as the hosts slumped from 92-0 to 180 all out; Derbyshire securing their full quota of bowling points in the process.
With a handy lead of 64, Derbyshire lost two early wickets with Chesney Hughes (4) and Park (1) both dismissed cheaply; however a valuable stand from Matt Lineker and Ben Slater advanced the score to 110-2 before the latter fell for 40.
There was time for one further dismissal in the day to see the visitors close on 117-4, a lead of 181, with Lineker unbeaten on 53.
Yesterday, having lost the toss and asked to bat first, Derbyshire scored a competitive 244 in their 1st innings, with Matt Lineker (41), Garry Park (20), Ben Slater (42), Steve Bullen (52) and Mark Turner (35) at the end of the innings all contributing to the total.
Having bowled the visitors out in 93 overs, Northants then faced a potentially tricky nine over spell of batting before the close of play, something the hosts were able to do, closing 14 without loss at the conclusion of Day One.

Palladino Hat Trick in the derby at Grace Road

Leicestershire found themselves in a fairly familiar position of 7/3 after Tony Palladino bowled a hat trick of wickets on day one of the Division Two East Midlands Derby.

The former Essex boy took the wickets of Michael Thornely, Ned Eckersley and Raminaresh Sarwan.

50 from Matt Boyce and 30 from Josh Cobb steadied the ship for the hosts but at tea HMS Fox were still on stormy seas at 168/7, Kadeer Ali, returning from the seconds and Staffordshire 47 not out.

Straight after tea, the divisional leaders finished off their foe.

Leicestershire 177 all out
Tim Groenewald 5/29

Academy go top

Notts Academy moved to the top of the Notts Premier League as Cuckney narrowly lost to Caythorpe and Academy won at Papplewick.

Papplewick scored 210/8 Sam Wood 4/61

Notts Academy reached the target during the 47th over, Scott Elstone 114 not out, Hassan Azad 37, having lost just 3 wickets.

Notts beat Somerset

The Outlaws innings

v Somerset CB40 at Trent Bridge

Notts have a Ball as the Cidermen are well beaten.

After the debacle up in Durham, Notts cruised to a comfortable victory over a disappointing Somerset side at Trent Bridge yesterday, the visitors clearly missing the inspirational Trescothick.
Newell dropped the expensive pair of Carter and Franks and they were replaced by Pattinson and Jake Ball. Once again, Notts won the toss and inserted the opposition on a wicket pitched on the Bridgford Road size of the square.

The prolific Compton was the first to go edging Pattinson to Read for seven. Kieswetter added 32 in eight overs with Trego as Somerset were finding brisk run scoring tough on what appeared to be a two paced wicket. Ball appears to have modified his run up slightly and added a yard of pace too compared to the ambling 2011 version. He got one to nip back and removed Kieswetter’s off stump as he departed for 24, 49 for two. In his next over Hildreth was comprehensively bowled for three by Bruce French’s nephew as Somerset stood on 58 for three in the 16th over.

Trego hit Patel for six as Somerset brought their 100 up in the 23rd over as he and the dangerous Buttler upped the scoring rate. Pattinson was forced to return and immediately had Trego plumb leg before for 47 made off just 53 balls, 113 for four.
Patel pushed one through which killed the advancing Buttler who departed clean bowled for 29, 122 for five in the 29th over. Meschede immediately hit Mullaney for six and soon afterwards the Cidermen took the batting power play. Gurney whose earlier spell was very economical took some tap as the run rate increased once again.  A mix up with Malaysian Suppiah saw Meschede run out by Hales for 33.  Ball picked his third victim as Gregory (7) hit the ball into stratosphere as Read took a good running catch in front of the stumps. Suppiah who hit a brisk 39 fell to the last ball of the innings caught at long on by Mullaney off Pattinson for 39 as Somerset closed on 205 for eight. Pattinson slowly getting back to fitness claimed three for 37 and Ball an impressive three for 38, as Notts put in a much more inspired bowling effort compared to previous day up in the North East.

Left and right hand combination of Lumb and Hales added 56 in 10 overs, before Hales failed to push on once again this time holing out to Suppiah off Gregory for 22. The in-form pair of Lumb and Wessels added a brisk 79 off 11 overs as they made mincemeat of Somerset’s bowling. Lumb’s 50 came up in 47 balls. Wessels clubbed sixes off spinner Waller (surprising preferred to Dockrell) and Meschede. Lumb mistimed a pull and was caught in the covers by Max Waller off Meschede for 65; an innings which included seven fours and one six off 60 balls. Notts now needed 71 runs off 18 overs. The rest of the innings was anti-climatic as the scoring slowed and Somerset were bowling their overs at a funeral pace. Kirby proved as entertaining as ever with his grunting and posturing as he put in maximum effort despite an obvious lost cause. Wessels frustrated with Patel hogging the strike edged a short ball from captain Alfonso Thomas into the keeper’s gloves to depart for a 57-ball 55, another fine effort. Patel who scratched around for 16 fell to Trego followed shortly afterwards by Titch Taylor (12) who after creaming two balls through the covers fell leg before to Trego who picked up his second wicket. Voges and Read added an unbroken 24 as Notts got home with five wickets and 20 balls to spare. A good sized crowd went home happy as Notts now stand with two wins and two losses in a competition which now moth balled until July 15 when Notts travel down to the Woodbridge Road ground at Guildford. The DofC is probably now much closer is to knowing his preferred eleven as Notts step on to the baseball plate in a week’s time at Grace Road. MAG

Song remains the same

The Notts CCC website continues to sing the same tune; the squad of thirteen remains the same for today's game with Somerset.

Why

  • No reason for Pattinson's continued rest.
  • No explanation why even the mention of Luke Fletcher's name is absent from the news pages of the website ......................................... you have to starting wondering about breaches of, or codes of conduct, or appearing before the committee or something involving some or all of those words that will eventually  arrive as an Official Statement from the club.
  • Scott Elstone, isn't  involved because?

When the actual team was announced, Darren Pattinson was included, not of the 13, and Jake Ball got a seasonal debut too.

Notts won the game by 5 wickets

Somerset Innings 205/8

Peter Trego 47
Arul Suppiah 39

CONGRATULATIONS to NL

The Netherlanders today beat Leicestershire on their own stomping ground by 43 runs.

v Durham CB40 Riverside 2012

The less said about this the better....A truly awful bowling performance got its just desserts as Notts crashed to humiliating 91-run defeat at a cool Riverside yesterday.
With Pattinson “rested” and without Adams, Fletcher, Phillips, Notts seam attack looked extremely threadbare; Read won the toss and elected to bowl on a slowish surface that was expected to seam given the damp conditions over the previous few days. What in fact happened with Notts opening with pair of novices and backed up by a bowler trying to bowl too fast, was the home side was served an endless diet of all you can eat buffet bowling.

Left-handers Mustard and Stoneman opened up with 183 off 23 overs. Carter comically missed an easy run out early doors, but for most of the time a wicket looked a remote prospect as the Notts bowlers either bowled too short or over pitched. Patel and Mullaney tried their best to stem the gush of runs but the damage had already been done. The spinner should have had Stoneman leg before but our old friend Bailey refused to move his hands out of his pockets. Shortly afterwards Patel got his revenge by removing Stoneman for a 72-ball 83, the Newcastle native holing out to long on. The Colonel fell next over bowled leg stump to the undeserving Carter, his 100 was off just 67 balls with 12 fours and two sixes. Durham slowed slightly as they added only 56 runs in 10 overs until the Red Shoed Stokes fell to another boundary catch off Patel.

Patel finishing with 8-0-49-2. Gordon Muchall (34) fell two overs later to another boundary catch, this time off left armer Gurney. The experienced pair of Collingwood and Benkenstein added unbroken 60 off the last five overs, to put salts in the wounds as Durham closed on 310 for four, a score 60 runs over par. The lowlights for Notts were Carter’s 8-0-68-1 and Franks’ 5-0-49-0.
What happened next was utterly predictable as Notts had to chance their arm in the power play. Chris Rushworth had the day of his life as he picked up five wickets as the batsman had to go “over the top”. Lumb hit the ball into orbit and when the ball eventually dropped Benkenstein took the catch as the South African departed one. Next in the hutch was Hales who is having a very disappointing season, he inside edged one on to his stumps to depart for a 6-ball duck. Wessels was next to fall to Rushworth being bowled through the gate for a 21-ball 20, 23 for three. Taylor went from hero to zero as he was next on the conveyor belt, being leg before to his fourth ball. Patel’s became Rushworth’s fifth scalp, a victim of a family affair caught by Cousin Phil for eight. The sides “dual captains” Read and Voges added 47 in 10 overs as Notts were now just playing for pride. Read fell to a good catch at mid-wicket by Benkenstein as Notts were now 90 for six in the 20th wicket.

Despite the man from Collingham witty asides, the home crowd were clearly bored with away sides attempt and started leaving in the droves somewhat ironically as the small way contingent was happy to sit through and watch the inevitable outcome as the sun made an appearance. Mullaney did not last long and was bowled by the wayward Plunkett for seven. The away fans loyalty was rewarded when Voges and Franks added 99 for the eighth wicket in 13 overs which included the four over batting power play which was taken far too late.

The General’s half century was brought up with huge six of leg spinner Borthwick who went for more than 10 an over. Voges drove Ben Stokes to Will Smith in the deep to depart for a face saving run a ball 74. Franks departed two balls later bowled by the same bowler for 57 an innings that included five fours and three sixes. There was still time for Gurney to hit two sixes off Borthwick, but Carter was stumped off the same bowler as Notts were all out 219 with 13 balls unused.
Mustard was named man of the match by Sky as Rushworth only playing due to Onion’s England call up finished with 8-1-31-5.
Notts make their seasonal Trent Bridge limited-overs debut today against the Wurzels they can now only afford one more loss to have any chance of qualification in a competition which once again appears way bottom of the list of priorities for the DofC.

Sunday 3 June 2012

Outlaws bowl themselves into that creek without a paddle.

Some good batting combined with some equally sub-standard bowling left Notts' batsmen with a mountain to climb. The situation got so desperate that Adam Voges turned his arm over for the second successive match to relieve a battered Franks and Co. but the Durham destruction of the bowling continued to 310/4 when the 40 overs were exhausted.

The assault of Mount Rush-worth never got passed base camp as the bearded Macam took 5/31.

Only before 7 wickets, along with the match, had been lost, did the Outlaw batsmen do anything to add a modicum of respectability to the scoreboard but it was all too little, much too late.

The DoC needs to address a number of bowler/bowling issues before the Yellow uniforms get their annual airing:

  •  early wickets slow the scoring down in the batting power-plays at the beginning of an innings better than anything, who have we got playing that is capable of doing that right at this moment, it's not happened in each of the games so far, not even against Scotland?
  • Is Graeme White good enough to pick, if he is, why hasn't he played in the last two run-fests at the Rose Bowl and at CLS?
  •  Is Patto fit?
  • Who is the second overseas player?
  • What the heck is going on with Luke Fletcher?
Franks (57) and Voges (74) each made fifties to get Notts to 200 but that left Carter and Gurney to score 111 in just over 5 overs

Outlaws were finally dispatched in the 38th over but not before Harry Gurney clobbered two sixes off Scott Borthwick.................... 219 all out, a fairly embarrassing performance all round!

Paddles Hadlee in his prime would have been the ideal antidote today.

As it stands:

Scott Elstone and Luke Fletcher, where are you? Your County needs you!

Missing Bowler! FOUND!

July update.................

From Fletch's 12th man appearances it is clear that the young man has a problem with his weight, loving his "snap" too much alas. Rumours circulating Trent Bridge reckon that Fletch has been ordered to lose significant mass and has been placed on a strict diet.

Horse, bolted, stable door, shutting, after .............................................rearrange!

Friday 6/7/12

Got up early today to run alongside the Trent but there's a flood warning so i'm going back to bed
