Brett Hutton broke the club record List A bowling record with outstanding figures 8.1-2-26-7 as Notts hammered Leicestershire by 105 runs via the DLS method after the game was bizarrely interrupted for 35 minutes after a water pipe burst flooding the outfield. Hutton was magnificent throughout taking 4 wickets in his first spell and then three wickets in seven balls to rapidly end the Foxes innings. Hopefully we will now see him with a regular spot in the red ball team, something I believe he deserves, he never lets Notts down. At 29, he has a good many seasons left in him.
Leicestershire won the toss and elected to bowl on a sunny day in front of a crowd of around 1,000 on Ladies Day at Grace Road. Pettman came in for Chappell to finally make his Notts first team debut after loan spells with Derbyshire and Kent. Leicestershire were dealt a blow when overseas left arm seamer Beuran Hendricks, their leading wicket taker with 13 wickets was called up to The Hundred by Southern Brave. He was replaced by debutant left armer Mike Finan who has played for Cheshire in the National Counties championship.
Wright (Bennett End) and Finan opened the bowling. Slater and Budinger made a circumspect start. In the fifth over, Budinger on 14 was dropped Hill at mid-off, Wright the bowler. Later in the same over, Slater was caught at backward point by Patel for 6, 22 for 1. Next over, Budinger hit Finan for a straight six and then for a 4 through point off successive balls, a single followed then an offside boundary for James, 15 off the over. In the 7th over, Budinger was bowled by a Wright inswinger for 26, 37 for 2. Mulder replaced Finan for the 8th over. Notts 48 for 2 after 10 overs.
Wright bowled his first 5 overs for 8, then conceded 10 off his sixth with 2 boundaries for James. Ed Barnes was introduced from the Pavilion End to allow Mulder to switch ends. Mulder picked up a wicket with last ball of 13th over when he dismissed James (19) caught at long leg by Finan playing a hook shot, 63 for 3. Finan bowled an expensive 21st over which went for 13 including 4 byes off a head high no ball. Finan who had a chastening debut had conceded 46 runs off his 5 overs and never bowled again. Davis and Kimber were introduced for the 22nd and 23rd overs respectively. After 2 overs for 15, Kimber made way for the returning Wright. Play was stopped at 1303 with Notts 156 for 3 off 29 overs with Hameed on 42 and Montgomery on 47 due to a drainage problem on the Milligan Road side of the square. A water pipe had appeared to have burst and the problem was eventually resolved by heavy forking and applying saw dust to the offending area.
Play recommenced at 1338 with the match now a 47 over game. Montgomery got to 50 in 50 balls and Hameed, a lot slower, got to his 50 off 75 balls. Montgomery (58 off 61 balls, 7x4) perished when he skied Barnes to Hill at mid-off, 184 for 4 in the 34th over. The 4th wicket stand between Hameed and Montgomery had added 121 in 20 overs Lilley had his first bowl in the 37th over as Notts got to 200.
Patterson-White (14) got a leading edge to Wright and was caught by Barnes at short third man, 230 for 5 in the 40th over. Singh fell for a 2-ball duck caught at backward point by Patel off a delivery from Wright that popped up, 230 for 6. Schadendorf played on to Wright for 2, 234 for 7 in the 42nd over. Hutton (1) skied Wright to Kimber at mid-wicket, 236 for 8 in the 42nd over. Wright had List A best figures of 10 1 35 6, a superb effort, little did we know Hutton would trump him later on.
Paterson (0) skied to extra cover where Davis took the catch at extra cover, Barnes (9-0-32-2) the bowler, 241 for 9 in the 44th over. Notts had lost 5 wickets for 11 runs in 4 overs in a dramatic collapse. Pettman joined Hameed and they scraped together a further 14 runs in 3.3 overs against Davis (8-0-51-0) and Mulder (10-0-45-1). Notts closing on 255 for 9 with Hameed on 99 and Pettman on 5. Hameed agonisingly falling one short of his ton having faced 115 runs with 9 fours. He became the third Notts batsmen to end up on 99 not out in a List A match, after Basharat Hassan v Warwickshire at Trent Bridge in 1982 and Paul Johnson v Durham at Trent Bridge in 1999.
Leicestershire required 260 to win via the DLS method with Pettman (Bennett End) and Hutton opening the bowling. Hutton picked up a wicket with his 4th ball having Patel, trying to play a leg side shot, caught low by the diving Budinger at point having got a leading edge. Two balls later, Kimber played on to Hutton, 0 for 2 after 2 overs. Welch(3) became Hutton 's third victim plumb leg before, 7 for 3 after 3.1 overs. Hill (4) became Hutton 4th scalp caught behind to a ball that jagged back in, 12 for 4 in the 6th over. Paterson came on for the 7th over and conceded 11 including 2 boundaries for Mulder. After instructions from the Pavilion, [TV reckon, Pettman left the field to replace his footwear, missing an over] Pettman was brought back on from the Bennett End. Leicestershire 35 for 4 after 10 overs.
After 6 overs from Hutton (6 2 15 4) from the Pavilion End, Paterson had a bowl. Patterson-White came on for the 15th over and with his 6th delivery had Swindells (27) tamely hitting the ball back to him, 65 for 5.
Paterson conceded 15 off the 18th over including 3 boundaries. Mulder got to 50 off 51 balls as Leicestershire reached 100 in the 20th over. Paterson, who bowled far too many short deliveries, had bowled 5 overs for 41 and was replaced by Pettman who opened with 5 wides. Lilley was dropped on 14 by the diving Montgomery at mid-wicket off Pettman, a hard chance. Pettman (8-1-45-0) a tad unlucky on his debut. Lilley hit Patterson-White for a straight six off the last delivery of the 25th over. Patterson-White did not bowl again in the contest (6 0 34 1).
Hutton returned for the 26th over and Mulder hit him for consecutive fours. Singh bowled the 27th over. Lilley fell for 28 caught at deep square leg off Hutton, 149 for 6 in the 28th over. Barnes fell 4th ball caught at first slip by Montgomery as Hutton went nap, 149 for 7. Singh (2 0 7 2) was also was to pick up two wickets in the following over having Davis (1) lbw (150-8) and four balls later having Wright (4) brilliantly stumped by the lightning fast Schadendorf (154 for 9). Off the very next ball, Hutton became the first Notts bowler to take seven wickets in an innings when top score Mulder was bowled for a 76-ball 79 (11x4). Leicestershire 154 all out off 29.1 overs had lost 5 wickets for 5 runs in 13 balls, after Mulder and Lilley had added 84 for the 6th wicket in 12 overs. What a crazy game cricket can be!
Notts lie 4th in the table and now head to Welbeck hoping to beat Surrey, for Middlesex to lose their last 2 games and Leicestershire to lose to Durham on Tuesday. Qualification therefore remains unlikely. MAG

There is of course another player contracted to Notts, not on loan elsewhere, not involved the short snack competition with any franchise, not playing for England or England Lions or even England u19s but isn't included above.
Fateh Singh will miss the first two u19 Test matches against Sri Lanka, to maintain his experience gathering and learning in the Notts RLODC campaign.
It appears Notts CCC won't be previewing this fixture as it clashes with some fatty snack event. You wouldn't want to get folk confused...
A fine win, against a team who are going well.
