‘My congratulations to the team that put this yearbook together – Outstanding!’’ – Journal of the Cricket Society

The 2023 annual is bigger than ever with 256 pages including 32 pages of colour photographs. The annual has been expertly put together by Wade Print & Paper Ltd; with many thanks to Bill Taylor and Gordon Smithurst. The Cricket Lovers’ Society really appreciate the support that has been afforded to them by Notts County Cricket Club and also the advertisers who continue to loyally support the publication.

The annual contains the following:

·         Introduction/Editorial

·         A comprehensive summary of the first-team including averages, outstanding performances, partnerships and extensive reviews of each of the three first-team competitions

·         Full scorecards and reports for all 2022 Notts first and second team fixtures

·         Extensive 21-page record section

·         Obituaries

·         Review of Notts Women and the Lightning in 2022

·         Comprehensive coverage of all age-group representative cricket in Notts

·         Full coverage of the following leagues:

·                      Notts Premier League

·                      South Nottinghamshire Cricket League

·                      Bassetlaw & District Cricket League

·                      Mansfield and District Cricket League;

·                      Notts Youth Cricket League

·                      Newark Evening Cricket League

·                      Mansfield and District Youth League

·                      Bassetlaw & District Junior Cricket League

·                      East Midlands Women’s Cricket League

·                      Plus, a full club directory

.

In addition, there are an array of interesting articles. Contributors include the Notts CCC Chairman Jeff Moore; Notts live-stream commentator Dave Bracegirdle; Paul Harrison (Trent Bridge Dressing Room Attendant); loyal Notts supporter John Sutton talking about his away travels during 2022; Malcolm Whitt (Notts CCC Safety Officer) and Tim Murray who writes about a rather unusual bench he discovered on his travels at Thoresby Colliery CC. Local umpire Bob Walter writes about the difficulties of recruiting new umpires. There is a piece written by Nottingham Cricket Lovers’ committee member Martyn Shaw celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Society which was formed in 1972. Martyn also contributes an article about the bats on display at Trent Bridge. A interview with former Notts batter Graeme Archer (Notts 1992-1999) by former Notts spinner Jim Hindson is included; this was originally published in The Cricketer. There are two contributions penned by Notts Heritage volunteer Peter Smith. The first is about the links between Notts and Ireland and the second concerns the superstitious musings concerning Matt Montgomery’s Notts first-class debut. Steve LeMottee has written three pieces concerning the Trent Bridge Library, women’s cricket at Trent Bridge and the national award winning Notts CCC Heritage teams 2022 activities.

We would wish to record the help given by the following individuals who have greatly assisted the editorial team (David Beaumont, David Richards, Bill Russell, Steve LeMottee and myself) by providing material for the Annual:

Tom Holdcroft, Matt Freeman and Mandy Wright at Notts CCC; Anne and John Cusworth (Notts Second Eleven); Chris Reavill (Notts Premier League); Gary Edginton (Gunn & Moore South Nottinghamshire Cricket League); Neil Fenwick (Bassetlaw & District Cricket League); Michael Layton (Mansfield & District League); Andrew Whitaker (Notts Youth Cricket League); David Richards (Newark Colts Youth League);  David Wagstaff (Mansfield & District Youth League); Bill Barclay (Bingham Under-11 Indoor tournament); Richard Stanton for a summary of a fine 2022 season for Notts Over-50s.

Many thanks to all proof readers and photographic contributors.

To help cover the costs, we sincerely appreciate the support of the following advertisers: Notts CCC; Michael Blatherwick at B3 Bats; Tim Davidson Cricket Memorabilia Auctions; Fisher, Hargreaves, Proctor, Estate Agents; Ronald Goodley Chauffeuring Services; The Cricket Memorabilia Society; Paul Garton at Trophy Master; Michael Pavis Ltd. Plumbers’ Merchants; Larch Groundwork Ltd; Rogers Spencer Chartered Accountants;  Recruit Works Limited; GAC Environmental Limited, Little Wickets, Village Fairs and The Nottingham Cricket Lovers’ Society.

Many thanks to all the volunteers who spend countless hours pouring over stats etc to bring us the Notts Year Book. So much information is contained within its pages its simply a “go to” book should you need any cricket info about the previous years play. Long may it continue.
