Via Pravda, the Clubs only acknowledgement that Shaheen Shah Afridi wouldn't be available beyond the group stages:
Tom Moores lauded the impact of Shaheen Shah Afridi ahead of the Pakistani pacer’s final game of the 2023 Vitality Blast against Leicestershire Foxes at Trent Bridge....

I'm told that Dave Bracegirdle was broadcasting last night that negotiations are happening to allow Shaheen Shah Afridi to play in any potential Quarter Final, before flying out to join the rest of the party. Outlaws if they do qualify in fourth will be at Taunton on the 7th July, 9 days before the first Test in Galle.
Meanwhile, Warwickshire in the same situation with Ha(s)san Ali, have sourced a replacement in the shape of Dominic Drakes. Why would Pakistan feel sympathetic towards Notts when they have failed to acknowledge the situation earlier? Perhaps the club didn't think that they could qualify for the QFs or sadly didn't have any ambition to reach the QFs. Alternatively, Olly Stone with Jake Ball (both fit) the club might have been seen this as a safety net solution - but that idea looks dead in the water now after last night's "drama".

JUST A REMINDER
Two weeks have passed and there's been no acknowledgement of Shaheen's impending departure. Perhaps the club don't expect (or plan) to have Outlaws in the quarter- finals, so it doesn't matter. Obviously, it's not news that would sell tickets.
Any clarity on the injuries to Munro and Patel have also been conveniently ignored, again their absence wouldn't sell tickets for Friday night.

Announced only just this week (but not on TB Pravda obviously)
Pakistan Tour of Sri Lanka – The recently revealed FTP indicates that the 12 full members of the ICC will play more cricket. In the four-year period, Pakistan is slated to play 238 days of international cricket. That’s rather unfortunate then. You obviously want your main overseas signings to be available for the qtr-finals and finals day assuming we can get there
ReplyDeleteI believe the authorities changed the rules some years ago so an overseas player has to have played in the group stages after someone flew in Dwayne Bravo, I think, just for finals day. I think that’s a fair enough ruling, it’s just very unfortunate if you’re the side stitched up by losing your key player.
Wonder when this really bad news will be released on Notts Pravda ?
You could just get it out of the way early - or strategically wait untill(hopefully) we are a shoe-in for the qtrs, then drop the bombshell.
Or, in theory, could you fly another bowler in(can you have more than 2 registered at the same time?) then play him in one of the group games, then they’re available for the knockout stages ? I’m sure the rules on registration/de-registration won’t allow this hair brained concept as it’s possible a club could actually do it in desperate circumstances, but we do have the Great Dane at the club so we have 3 overseas registered as it is.

We have an Olly Stone waiting in the wings, once Shaheen flies off. He's got to be fit soon, surely as he's been bowler slow stuff in the middle at lunchtimes this week. As we speculated at the ground yesterday, having an Olly Stone and a Jake Ball both fit at the same time would need a rare celestrial alignment to come into being. You can be assured that that is Newell/Moores Plan D or are we at E now, however? Conor McKerr and Jack Brooks are no doubt still available.

ReplyDeleteNUST A WORD ABOUT ALL THD COMINGS AND GOINGS BY TOP PLAYERS - and not so top players . Heard a cricket discussion yesterday about player loyalty - or lack of it - to just one club - players like the “ General” Franks and Fletch . Years ago the players were not well paid and often had to seek paid winter employment.A decent BENEFIT year was often awarded for long and faithful service and this helped in a players retirement . But nowadays players are much better paid and can , and do chase the dollar . Hence one famous player ( still playing) has had 22 different Clubs! . Players moving from Club to Club , worldwide , every other month will no doubt soon become the norm !?
