Surrey LV Championship Div 1 at Kennington Oval Draw 11 points Report

Day 4

TEAMS SETTLE ON HARD FOUGHT DRAW

On a slow, somnolent pitch, Surrey decided to stick rather than twist at The Oval today and make sure they had a 13 point lead at the top of the table rather trying to advance it by a further 11. A potentially exciting day ended up a bit of damp squib with hands shook at 1700 with both teams happy with a draw.

Paterson and Hutton shared the bowling duties first thing. Jacks and Lawes scored steadily for the first nine overs before Harrison and James were introduced for the 70th and 71st oves respectively. Having negotiated the first 10 overs, Surrey, with a deep batting line up would have expected to put the foot on the accelerator, but sadly this never happened.

Montgomery came on for the 78th over from the Pavilion End and bowled two overs. The new ball was taken with Surrey 255 for 5 after 80 overs and with the first delivery Jacks got to his 50 in 91 balls with a cover drive off Hutton, 11 off the over. Paterson broke down one ball into his new spell with what looked like a side strain, Harrison completed the over. In the 85th over, Jacks (60) on the charge missed a leg side hit and was adjudged lbw to Hutton, 275 for 6. James returned for the 86th over. In the 87th over, Hutton got his third scalp having Clark (2) leg before, 281 for 7. Lawes immediately drove James for successive boundaries. Harrison came on 5 minutes before lunch. In the last over before lunch a quick single for Lawes off Hutton saw him to 50 off 106 ball's. Surrey 299 for 7 off 91 overs at the interval with Lawes on 50 and Abbott on 3.

In the 95th over, Lawes (55) was caught via Moores right glove at slip by Montgomery off Harrison, 309 for 8. Abbott (8) fell next over caught by sole slip Harrison off Hutton, 309 for 9. Still no declaration as Overton and Worrall batted for a further eight overs to kill the game!

There was controversy when Overton on 2 appeared to have been caught low down by sub Fateh Singh off Hutton. The umpires Bailey and Llong disagreed and thought Singh did not get his hands under the ball. Hameed was then spoken to by the umpires as presumably one of the Notts players voiced his displeasure about the decision that they disliked. To rub salt in the wounds Overton then hit Hutton for 6 over long on. Overton (12) skied Hutton to mid off where Hameed took the catch. Surrey 340 off 102.1 overs with Hutton outstanding 5 for 91. He has 41 championship victims @20.04. Harrison showed great control in taking 3 for 99 in 33.5 overs.

Notts needed 297 off 52 overs. On a slow pitch with long boundaries this was never really on. Notts were happy to settle for a hard fought and much deserved draw against the leaders, battling all game with a depleted bowling unit. Worrall (Vauxhall End) and Clark shared the new ball but Slater and Hameed stood firm. Abbott came on for the 8th over. Three overs later, Jacks came on. The 50 partnership came up in the 14th over. In the last over before tea, Slater (39) carved Jacks to Abbott at point who took the catch, 60 for 1 off 16.3 overs with Hameed on 20. Tea was immediately taken. The draw now inevitable.

Overton (Pavilion End) bowled a brisk 4 over spell straight with Hameed at times struggling against his pace. Abbott replaced him but the game petered out. Sibley bowled one ball from the Pavilion End and with clock now showing 1700 the game was declared over. Notts 118 for 1 off 33.1 overs with Hameed on 44 and Young on a superb debut on 25. Notts took 11 points from the game and are 7th in the table. They face Hampshire at Trent Bridge next Wednesday the seam bowling selection for this game will no doubt prove somewhat problematical. Day 3

GAME LEFT FINELY BALANCED AT CLOSE OF DAY 3

Another good day for Notts at the Oval as Young, James and Harrison all shine

Another good day for Notts with Surrey leading by 156 runs with 5 second innings wickets standing at the Day 3 close. On a predominantly sunny day the day was extended by 8 overs following yesterday's rain. Notts added a further 151 to their overnight score with Will Young being seventh man out for a chanceless 145 off 277 balls (21x4, 1x6). Lyndon James (50 off 95 balls, 6x4) followed his personal best bowling figures with his first championship half century of the season. Calvin Harrison (20 2 67 2) finished with a valuable 32 not out and then excellently held an end up (Vauxhall End) whilst Surrey were looking for quick runs.

In the first over of the day an on driven four by Young off Jacks saw Notts to their first batting point. The new ball was taken with Notts 258 for 5 off 80 overs by Worrall and Clark. In the 86th over, Hutton (23) was caught at second slip by Latham diving to his right off Clark, 284 for 6. Notts reached 300 in the 90th over. Runs had been coming at a trickle until Overton tried a bouncer barrage against Young with the Kiwi pulling him for 4 and 6 over long leg in the same over. Jacks returned from the Vauxhall End and with his first delivery dismissed Young who playing a reverse sweep edged to Foakes. The keeper removing the bails for good measure as both umpires raised their respective fingers. Caught behind rather stumped, Young left with memorable 145 against his name, 326 for 7 in the 103rd over. James buoyed by his bowling exploits was playing well. A cover driven boundary for Harrison off Lawes got Notts to 350 in the 108th over. Notts took the lead in the following over via a lovely extra cover drive by Harrison. Notts were 358 for 7 after 110 overs. Lunch was taken an over later with Notts 366 fo 7 after 111 overs James 30 and Harrison on 24. Very much Notts' session.

James (50 off 95 balls, 6x4) reached 50 off 93 balls but perished two balls later caught by the only slip Latham via a leading edge off Abbott. Next ball, Paterson was caught by Jacks at leg slip . Abbott 2 wickets in 2 balls, 390 for 9. Ball looking very uncomfortable against the short ball was bowled leg stump by Worrall for 5. Notts 399 all out off 118.4 overs. Harrison 32 not out. Notts unexpectedly led by 44 runs on the back of the excellent Young and the fine support from Hameed, James and Harrison and on an easing pitch.

Hutton shrugged off his cramp from the first innings and bowled the opening over from the Vauxhall End. Following his two ball duck in the first innings, Rory Burns lasted four deliveries in the second innings being out in identical fashion lbw to Hutton for another duck, 0 for 1. James came on for the 8th over replacing Paterson from the Pavilion End. Sibley and Latham steadily accumulated runs with Surrey taking the lead in the 12th over. Three overs later Paterson replaced Hutton from the Vauxhall End. It was looking ominously easy for the Brown Caps. Harrison came on to bowl for the 19th over. At tea Surrey were 88 for 1 off 21 overs with Sibley on 44 and Latham on 35. Surrey had won the middle session.

The expectation was that Surrey would make hay in the evening sunshine on the placid deck with Notts a bowler short. Wrong! The spirited Notts team well led by stand in captain Hameed fought back with 4 wickets in the 40 over session.

Hutton and Harrison bowled immediately after tea.

The Surrey 100 came up in the 27th over. Next over Sibley reached his 50 off 86 balls with an offside boundary off Hutton. A swept four by Latham off Harrison brought up his 50 off 86 balls. Hameed carried on rotating his seamers from the Pavilion End, Paterson replaced Hutton for the 36th over. Then out of nowhere, left hander Latham (60) was strangled by legside delivery by Paterson, Moores taking his 7th catch of the match, 141 for 2 in the 40th over. It got better in the following over, Smith (2) drove Harrison low to Clarke at mid on who took the catch diving forwards, 144 for 3 in the 41st over. Sibley was dropped on 75 by the sole slip Clarke off Paterson, an easy chance to his right. Luckily it did not prove too costly. Montgomery and James replaced Harrison and Paterson for the 49th and 50th overs respectively. Sibley threw his wicket away hitting Montgomery to the square leg ropes where Paterson took a running catch, 171 for 4 in the 51st over. Surrey were giving away their wickets, Sibley of all people helping Notts' cause. Montgomery had taken his first championship wicket, but was only given two overs before being replaced by Harrison. James came back for another bowling stint from the Pavilion End. In the 59th over,Foakes (25) edged the persevering Harrison to Moores, 196 for 5. A further 4 runs were added as stumps were drawn at 1907 with Surrey 200 for 5 off 61 overs with Jacks on 19 and Lawes on 2.

A fascinating final day awaits. MAG

Day 2

YOUNG DEBUT TON

after Lyndon completes a stunning six-fer

Will Young (106 not out off 204 balls, 17x4) scored a chanceless unbeaten ton in his maiden championship innings for Notts as they closed Day 2 at the Oval 107 runs behind Surrey's first innings total of 355 with 5 first wicket innings still standing. Strong off the back foot he brought exactly what Notts have needed in their 8 games, solidity in the top order. He shared a second wicket stand of 134 in 41 overs with Haseeb Hameed (67 off 149 balls, 10x4). Luckily for Surrey the wicket which was somewhat docile for the first 42 overs of Notts innings was spiced up a little following light rain and Notts lost their way somewhat losing four wickets for 85 in 25 overs in the last session with Clarke, Montgomery and Moores joining Slater in failing to make a significant contribution.

Paterson and James shared the bowling duties this morning as Surrey added a further 16 runs to their overnight score. In the 99th over, Overton hit Paterson (Vauxhall End) for a straight six. In the following over, Lawes (4) edged James to Moores who took his 6th catch. The next delivery Worrall went for a golden duck skying James to Hutton who took a well judged catch running back from mid on. Surrey 355 all out in 99.2 overs with Jamie Overton 30 not out. James outstanding with career best figures of 6 for 74.

Worrall (Vauxhall End) and Abbott shared the new ball. Slater and Hameed survived 10 overs, before Slater edged Sean Abbott to Latham (14) at second slip who took the catch diving to his right, 27 for 1. Hameed was joined by a calm Young and both batters looked comfortable. Abbott bowled a 6 over spell and was replaced by Jordan Clark. The following over Tom Lawes replaced Worrall. Jamie Overton came on for the 23rd over. None of the support bowlers looked threatening Notts 81 for 1 off 25 overs with Hameed on 32 and Young on 31 at lunch.

Worrall and Abbott returned after the interval. The Notts 100 came up in the 33rd over. Clark and Overton returned for the 38th and 39th overs respectively. A beautiful on drive by Young off Overton saw him to 50 off 88 balls. The 100 partnership came up in 185 balls and off the next ball a four through mid wicket by Hameed off Overton took him to his 50 off 118 balls. Very light rain stopped play at 1454 with Notts 139 for 1 off 42.4 overs with Hameed on 57 and Young on 56.This proved very fortuitous for Surrey as the ground staff elected to cover the wicket with tarpaulin rather than using the hover cover. The moisture livened up the wicket which up to that point had lost much of its first day venom.

Play resumed at 1629 with 12 overs lost with Clark and Worrall bowling. Hameed fell for 67 caught by Sibley low to his left at first slip off Worrall, 161 for 2 off 51 overs. Overton and Abbott replaced Clark and Worrall for the 54th and 55th overs respectively. Overton got a delivery to lift and Clarke (15) fended him to Latham in the gulley who took the catch, 186 for 3 in the 60th over. Notts reached 200 in the 62nd over. Two overs later, Lawes returned to the attack.

Jacks came on and with his fifth ball got one to turn and bowl Montgomery off stump for 11, 227 for 4 in the 69th over. Young who remained untroubled throughout his innings reached his 100 off 192 balls with a cover driven four off Lawes Overton returned for the 76th over and his extra pace and bounce made the ball lift once more removed Moores (6) fending to second slip to be caught by Latham, 246 for 5. Night watchman Hutton (0 not out) joined Young in the middle as Notts added a further 2 runs in the last 14 balls of play to the close. Notts 248 for 5 off 78 overs.

Ominously with Surrey still well in front, the new ball is due in just 2 overs tomorrow. MAG

Day 1

NOTTS IN THE WARS, BUT BATTLE ON VALIANTLY

Two men down, Lyndon James stands tall

Haseeb Hameed had a baptism of fire at The Oval today. Taking over the captaincy due to Steven Mullaney being affected by a side niggle he had to cope with the loss through injury of his open two bowlers Jake Ball and Brett Hutton, as Surrey closed on a very healthy 339 for 8 having stood at 70 for 4 at lunch on a seamer friendly track.

Notts won the toss and elected to bowl on a pitch giving the seamers plenty of assistance throughout the day. New overseas signing Will Young and Harrison came in for Mullaney and Carter. Ball remained in the side despite him not appearing to be fully fit over the last couple of weeks. Coach Moores cautious as ever refusing to give Toby Pettman his Notts championship debut. It was a day of intermittent hot sunshine played in front of a large crowd.

The match had a dramatic start with Rory Burns shuffling across his crease leg before to Hutton (Vauxhall End) to the second delivery of the match, 0 for 1. After 3 innocuous overs from the Pavilion End, Ball made way for Paterson. Sibley and Latham were tested as Hutton was moving the ball around considerably. Ball swapped ends and replaced Hutton for the 13th over but clearly in discomfort only lasted 2 overs before leaving the field with what appeared to be a side strain. This put enormous pressure on the remainder of the seam attack, already lacking Mullaney. James replaced Ball for the 17th over and a four through square leg by Sibley saw Surrey to 50. After two overs from James he switched to the Pavilion End. Hutton returned for a second spell from the Vauxhall End. In the 25th over, Sibley (34) edged Hutton to Moores who took the catch low to his right, 66 for 2. Smith became the second batsman to register a duck in the morning, inside edging James to Moores behind the stumps who took an excellent legside catch, 67 for 3 in the 26th over. In the last over before lunch, Latham was lbw to James for 29. Lunch was Immediately taken with Surrey 70 for 4 off 29.3 overs with Foakes 0 not out.

James (Pavilion End) and Paterson bowled immediately after lunch. Hutton replaced Paterson for the 37th over. After a 3 over spell Harrison replaced Hutton, the leg spinner only given one over. With Ball lame, James, who was supposed to be on a controlled bowling ration, had to bowl an 11 over spell interspersed by lunch taking 2 for 24. He bowled exceedingly well and deserved more than his two wickets. Paterson returned for the 44th over and with his opening delivery, Jacks (35) advanced down the pitch attempting a legside hit, but only succeeded in edging the ball to Moores who took the catch diving to his right, 130 for 5. Hutton returned from the Vauxhall End. The Surrey 150 was achieved in the 47th over. Clark provided impetus to the innings with the vacant third man area being particularly profitable for him. Hameed, a bowler light, continued to rotate his bowling attack. Harrison and James returned for the 51st and 54th overs respectively. Hutton then reappeared for the 60th over but he went down with a hamstring sprain 4 balls into his new spell. Notts were now in serious bother with two bowlers now on the sidelines. Assistant coach Ant Botha having to change into his whites. James completed Hutton's incomplete over. Montgomery bowled the last over before tea, Surrey 200 for 5 off 64 overs at tea with Clark on 47 and Foakes on 42. They had dominated the middle session adding.130 runs for the loss of Jacks.

In the second over after tea, Moores picked up his fourth catch, Foakes (46) edged Paterson and the keeper took the catch by his ankles, 207 for 6. Abbott was dropped on 0 a very difficult chance to Moores diving to his right. A now limping and clearly tiring James returned once more for the 74th over. Montgomery was given another bowl in the 78th over with Surrey reaching 250. Hutton then had an aborted attempt at returning to the fray. He bowled the first delivery of the 81st over but pulled up with Harrison completing the over. Hutton left the field once more but did return later to field. All the remaining seamers were now dead on their feet, so despite bowling on a seamer friendly pitch, Hameed was forced to use his two spinners and delay taking the new ball. Clark was dipping his bread accordingly and in the 88th over, a mid wicket boundary by him off Montgomery saw him to his ton off 133 balls. The new ball was belatedly taken by Paterson and James with Surrey 292 for 6 off 88 overs. The new ball summoned one last effort in the remaining 8 overs with the ball still jagging about. The Surrey 300 came up in the 89th over but then James got the new cherry to move in and found Clark 's (107 off 142 balls with 17x4) inside edge, a fifth victim for Moores who took another legside catch, 304 for 7. The 7th wicket had added 97 in 24 overs Abbott (48) hit James for successive boundaries but next ball fell to catch at second slip by Harrison diving to his right 323 for 8 in the 92nd over Another 16 runs were added before stumps were drawn at 1821 with Surrey 339 for 8 off 96 overs with Overton on 14 and Lawes on 4.

A very testing day for Notts and Hameed in particular. At least Notts took their chances in the field with Moores having his best day of the season behind the stumps. There were unconfirmed rumours at the end of the day that Notts would advertise for a club stretcher bearer for the remainder of the season.

Hero of the day was undoubtedly Lyndon James who bowled a mammoth 23.4 overs taking 4 for 74. It was the best he had ever bowled for Notts. The home side appear to be a dominant position, Notts have got to hope the pitch eases and they somehow hold out for a very unlikely draw. MAG

  1. Monty i would say needs to play Lyndon needs a spell with the seconds to get some confidence back into his game, Surely we will not drop Calvin but its likely Notts will only play one spinner at the Oval ,If you check the two spinners respective averages Calvin has 7 wickets at a shade over 28 from two matches LPW has 1 wicket at 228 from five matches So make your own mind up there ,Not sure i would risk JB given his record of breaking down, Brett will definitely play as will the Great Dane, Hard to see Pettman getting a pick,

A quick check of the batting averages for the championship shows the problems Notts face scoring enough runs, Mull and Lyndon have scored less runs between them than Joe Clarke , 515 against 581, Lyndon's average also shows the problems he is having facing the better bowlers you find in division one, 14.26 Mull is a little better at 23.15 but neither are scoring the runs needed in the middle of the order, Its not going to be easy picking a side to face Surrey they are the top side for a reason, All i would ask of Notts is they pick a side based on present form, Chances are though Pete Moores will keep on with his cautious approach , He is certainly not in the realms of Ben Stokes gambling...

  2. The Curmudgeon KidSunday, 09 July, 2023

It's an interesting call, especially after the capitulation at The ExxonMobil County Ground, Taunton. Based on the travelling party, how about this: Hameed/Slater/Young/Clarke/James/Mullaney/Moores/Patterson-White/Harrison/Hutton/Paterson.

Young Will Young at three seems likely. Playing both spinners would certainly shorten the tail, with Hutton at ten giving the order a considerably stronger look. But it'd rely on Lyndon as first change, and the captain contributing a decent number of overs too. If James is to be the third seamer, that probably mean Monty missing out, which would be harsh on a clearly learning/developing talent, but he'll be back.

Perhaps deemed too risky, but at least a reaction to the oil-stained debacle last time out. And why not against a strong opponent when expectation is seemingly low?

  3. That spell either side of lunch by Lyndon James I reckon was the best I've seen him bowl. With a bit of luck he could have had 5 or 6 wickets and not just the 2 he got. Well done!

  4. Ronald Mcdonald and Nuts the Squirrel, have picked the team again. In other words only a clown and a nutter would assume that Jake Ball could get through another 4 day match unscathed. TOBY Pettman must be wondering why he signed a new contract at the end of last season. Peter Moores, time for you to leave.

    1. Entering a game already one bowler down (Mullaney) it's foolhardy at best to rely on the staying power of Ball.

They actually pay Peter Moores to gamble with his decision making, so does that make him a professional gambler.

Hameed is left to shuffle the deck with half the cards missing.

  7. There is some very serious questions to be answered about the fitness ragtime at TB & why there are so many brittle bowlers this as nothing to do with bad look
It's to do with the conditioning of these players & that they are training to the right training plan not sitting around the table
Eating cakes & playing on there Mobile phones at David Lloyd let's be honest we certainly don't have the most athletic looking players with most having the turning capacity of a stricken oil tanker

  8. First comment was mine forgot to add Zanga tag. Totally wrong about one thing , Without LJ we would have been in a mess, Excellent bowling against a strong Surrey team

Sadly i was spot on about Jake Ball who has broken down once more Jake needs to face reality and accept white ball is the way forward for him.

Losing Brett Hutton is a big loss If it is. his hamstring it could mean a few weeks out, possibly more .

Does that mean Pettman finally gets a game , Well this is Notts we are talking about!!

  10. Well done Lyndon James
    A superhuman effort today
He’s found it incredibly hard this season, he’s bound to, coming from the Notts Academy then the Stiffs, now the proper boys cricket. Hopefully now this confidence may help his batting but nonetheless a brilliant, Herculean effort with the ball today
Jake Ball. Yes Zanga, I think you’re right. A white ball career surely? And if so, you can be at full fitness and pace as this was not the real Jake Ball we saw in the match against the Wurzels

  11. 80 NOT OUT .
The serious question has to be asked !
WHY ON EARTH WAS JAKE BALL PICKED FOR THIS 4 DAY MATCH ?
Try as he may it’s been obvious that he just cannot bowl over after over in the 4 day game . His history tells us that . So who actually made the decision to play him ? If it was Peter Moores alone then he has lost the plot and just relying on hope and not facts . With Ball breaking down so early in the game it’s put added strain onto the remaining bowlers and NOTTS are now paying the price . There is still a long way to go in the Championship - the bowlers workload needs to be spread out more and give one or two others a chance to play in the first team . Peter Moores must be the most cautious Coach NOTTS have ever had . And where has it got them over the years ? ( don’t mention the almost 3 years when NOTTS were a laughing stock and failed to win a 4 day game ) .
Time for NOTTS to employ a Coach with more vision and flair . Just what do the lads in the Seconds have to do to be selected into the first team . I would love to hear the players dressing room conversations - it must be very dis heartening for some .
Fletch has hardly bowled a ball for us this season ( mind on other things?) in either Competition . Is his time now up or can he come good and stay fit for the remaining important games?

  12. Jake Ball's contract is up for renewal / extension by the end of this season / year, I believe. Who (else) would take the risk on him?

The familiar pose Jake held, when he trotted off yesterday, suggests a lot of responsibility lies with Jake himself. He could barely complete his 4 over shifts in the Blast over the past few weeks, often seen touching his abdominal area walking from the field (slowly). But regardless of that he was deemed fit to start a 4 day game. Did he underplay the trouble he has been suffering to those assessing his fitness prior to this game? Of course Ball would want to play but now he is unable to. That's his loss and Notts' loss. Questions will be asked, but I doubt we'll hear any answers.

  13. Who else but Notts were daft enough to take a risk on Stoney broke. From what I can gather, Warwickshire were relieved to get him off the payroll, so don't be surprised if Notts offer Jake, at least a one year contract. DR Bansil is also likely to have his work cut out next season, as Tongue and Pennington are not exactly evergreen cricketers when it comes to fitness. Trust in Mick, we don't.

  14. Notts Seamers, Ball, Fletch,Paterson, Broad, Stone and Button will all be in their thirties next season ,Whilst that is not a problem in terms of experience it becomes one when you look at the amount of time lost to injuries, Something which will become more of a problem as the years progress, We really need to see if the likes of Pettman, Loten, Hayes have it in them to prosper at first class level , If not then is really fair to keep them hanging on for what seems increasingly like a forlorn hope of a chance to show that skills with the first team

  17. 80 NOT OUT
YES , a real confidence booster for young James after his personal NOTTS best of 6 wkts. Let’s hope the extra confidence can be transferred to his batting.
As for Tom Moores - well what can you say ? So up and down and in and out . But give him his due , he produced some valuable Blast 20 runs when others failed- two innings in particular . And now he has a great performance behind the stumps. Is he the long term reliable wicketkeeper that NOTTS need in order to bolster the middle order ?. Oh for another Chris Read- but his calibre of player is pretty thin on the ground . A lot of decisions will have to be made at the end of the season by the Doc and P. M.
( will those two be retained or be advised to move on?)

    1. A lot of decisions have to be made. Carter, Ball, Hales, Patel, Broad and Harrison are all in the final year of their current contracts.

      Delete
    2. I have a hunch that Carter may be allowed to leave. Samit surely has played his last game for Notts. I think Ball will be offered maybe a one year limited overs contract, Hales a 2 year, and Broad a 2 year, if he wants it.
I think Hayes's contract may be about to expire also. Not sure he will be retained.

  18. Would certainly keep Calvin Harrison, His bowling yesterday helped Notts keep a lid on Surrey, Like most spinners he needs time in the middle to keep improving, His fielding is the best in the team and his batting is improving , In fact his batting could be a way into the team if Notts prefer LPW , As for the others Hales had a poor T20 but you would certainly offer him another contract, Over the years he has won many matches for Notts and one poor season should not hide the fact that the opposition still fear him, I would tell Carter he needs to get fit if he wants another contract, Ball should be offered an incentive performance based white ball contract , As for Samit , well the injury was the first he had suffered for a long while, Prior to that after a poor start he had a reasonable year, I guess the question is given his age are we likely to see more injuries, So if we want to keep him perhaps a deal similar to Ball would work for all parties.

Stuart Broad could be thinking of retirement, The Ashes would be an ideal swansong especially if we perform a miracle and win them back, Lets not forget he also has a thriving pub business and has already done a lot of media work, If you add in his and Mollie Kings baby daughter there quite a few reasons to call it a day , Having said that if he tells Notts he wants to carry on then they will almost certainly offer him another contract..

Big congrats to Lyndon. C’mon now Lyndon get some runs under your belt, you’ve got the ability it’s just a big step up in Div. One, but I back you to get there.
I see the usual culprits failed again at this level. Why oh why DoC, didn’t you see this coming(?), as us fellow supporters did and sign an overseas batsman for the season. Oh forgot, Mr. cricket brain, you did sign Ollie Stone on a 3 year all format contract
Well, that’s it and Dr. Soper leaves right now - there’s 3 in there if anybody can work them out ???!!!

  20. The season can be like the long winding road and often life is too short to Google the songs of Pop Idol Will Young, so I won't be crying on the bathroom floor and will stay strong and not do it. I thought Gareth Gates had more appeal but neither were my cup of tea. So I'll leave (it there) right now.

    1. It's the air of Surrey entitlement that winds me up. You play for Surrey, so you will play for England (if England are deemed good enough). Snug gits

    2. Think one is Dan Norcross of TMS who is very good
Not too sure about who the others are ? Anyone know who the Aussie was this morning out of interest?
      Soper

    3. Adam Collins (the Aussie), Felix White, Taha Hashim etc etc. Dan Norcross loves himself and the others worship every word he utters, he being the professional voice.

    1. I wasn't impressed with Jamie Overton's attempt to Mankad Lyndon in the morning session. Very sly. Lyndon hadn't left his ground, had his bat grounded and wasn't trying to get up the business end in a hurry. Very, very sly.

  24. Great credit to Young who batted superbly for Notts , and more importantly, eleviated the pressure off the batsman who followed him to the crease.
Bowling wise,Notts have stuck to their task well in the second innings thus far, especially Calvin Harrison who has again impressed with his control, for a leg spinner, and also with his contribution with the bat.
Hameed has also captained the side well, considering he has been hampered by the injury to Ball.
As we enter the final day, all 3 results are still on the table.

  25. 80 NOT OUT
This game so far has been a good advert for the quality and graft of the 4 day game . Will be a credit to NOTTS if they can pull this one out of the fire .With various niggles and injuries they have been up against but still made a game of it . A fascinating final day in prospect

  28. Nigel Llong is one hell of an umpire. Last week as a TV umpire he over ruled the on field umpire even though the DRS wasn't working using his eagle-eyed telescopic vision no doubt, as the on field umpire had the best view in the house and the TV pictures were inconclusive. Today Llong switched into X-ray vision mode, being able to view a catch/non-catch through a human body that was directly blocking his sight. The guy is super-human.
