James Hayes two year deal
06/10
Using information in the public domain, the last deal to be struck with the existing Notts squad is James Hayes. When will Pravda announce that?
Haseeb Hameed must have received an improved contract beyond 2024 when his captaincy role was confirmed, but nothing was released to the media or through Pravda at the time.
A shroud of secrecy also surrounds Joe Clarke's contract. Nothing was announced when that deal was struck either.
"Alex Hales will do whatever Alex Hales wants", that's essentially what Mick Newell told members. Hales gets wed this autumn (or whatever season it is in South Africa), so might have new priorities...
04/10
Conor McKerr has joined Notts on a three year deal.
03/10
Sammy King given a contract until the end of 2025 season.
Dane Schadendorf ditto
Read what you will into the forward planning there....
...are there changes afoot in the head coach position?
28/09
Toby Pettman and Tom Loten have announced their retirements from professional cricket.
22/09
Academy graduates: Travis Holland, Tom Giles and Sam Seecharan have signed contracts until 2026.
16/09
Luke Fletcher to be released at the end of the season.
13/09
Rob Lord has signed a new two year deal.
11/09
With Dane Paterson failing to complete his contract, notreturning aftera spell of paternity leave, Notts have signed New Zealander Jacob Duff for the last two games of the season.
28/08
South African wicketkeeper Kyle Verreynne signed for three games.
13/08
As another competition draws to a premature close for Notts Outlaws in 2024, supporters are left scratching their heads wondering where it has all gone wrong (again)?
Team selection and the reluctance to admit mistakes and act according have scuppered Outlaws' season in two competitions this year.
One question that keeps recurring is: does anyone know what actually, really happened with Matt Carter? Naturally, an obvious question and one the club hasn't given an adequate answer to.
Reading online groups, it becomes clear that whatever the reason is (for Carter's release from his contract), it has been kept out of the public domain (in true Pravda style, censoring the news).
There had been some suggestion that Carter had been accused of an inappropriate act, innocent or not, that would have made the news over the last few months, wouldn't it? Sportsman accused of gross blah blah with a whatever, would have made The Sun etc...
Another suggestion is that Carter, using his "protected status as NCCC professional" had "been struggling to behave onfield" in the Lincolnshire Premier League over the last two years, things had been "brushed under the carpet". Possible, but I believe that they have social media even in Woodhall Spa, Lincolnshire, so any eye brow raising stories would be common knowledge by now, especially if it had been going on for years, surely?
I've also heard that Carter, not a natural athlete in build, had struggled with his fitness and had declined further over the winter, which is plausible but then again he continues to play for Woodhall Spa in the Lincs Prem.
Whatever the reason for Carter's departure it "was by mutual consent" and Peter Moores has chosen not to replace him in the Outlaws team, abandoned a tried and tested approach, and the team's results has suffered because of it (or at least it has contributed to a lot of the one day defeats in 2024).
Do members deserve an explanation at the Members' Forum on 30th August?
19/07
Notts have signed former Lancashire 2nd XI player, 23 year old Rob Lord, until the end of the season.
He has the same birthday as Dan Christrian.
07/07
Unconfirmed and not released into the public domain, but I understand our Director of Cricket, in his infinite wisdom, had extended the contract of Peter as well as Tom Moores until the end of the 2025 season back in March.
Mr Newell probably thought that that was the easy, quiet option for himself at the time.
In hindsight, it's beginning to look like a monumental blunder.
24/06
Dillon Pennington has been scooped up by Northern Superchargers for this season's H*ndred. A wildcard signing supposedly based on his performances in this season's Blast, to have the year's form Blast competition players in the summer competition. Dillon has spent the majority of the Blast in the dugout not selected, so a woildcard selection not because of Blast performance after all.
10/06
16 year old Farhan Ahmed has signed his first professional contract, a deal for three and a half years!
22/05
Matt Carter has been released ahead of this year's Blast, no explanation has been given.
20/03
Minimal damage from the latest H*ndred draft, only losing Calvin Harrison to the dispicable East Midlands based franchise.
What are the chances that Tom Moores and Matt Carter will be joining Alex Hales in the SST10 come August?
Earlier:
Left armers Ben Lister (NZ) Fazalhaq Farooqi (AFG) have been added to the Blast squad to share a place either side of the mid-tournament break.
19/03
It has been announced that Alex Hales has signed-up to the Scottish Super 10 tournament in August. Read here. That'll be a challenge even for Pravda to spin any positivity from. Substantial competition.
11/03
Tom Moores has extended his contract with Notts by another year . Pravda spins it

ReplyDeleteWonder 💭 what part of his ailing body will be playing him up by August?
Sums Notts up. Moores new contract.
ReplyDeleteThe gentleman from the forum last September will be spitting feathers after this news (TM new contract)
DeleteMore reward for failure. What has he done to deserve a contract extension? . Answer, nothing whatsoever. The top table at Notts know how to protect each others interests. Cronies rule suppreme.

ReplyDeleteA simple question!
Would Tom Moores have been offered a contract extension if his father Peter wasnt Head Coach !?
Just asking .
We will never know, or at least we won't know until Peter gets a better offer and isn't at the club anymore.
DeleteTalk about maximizing your income , Alex Hales signs a deal to play in the Lanka Premier League for July , Seems maybe Notts were not paying him enough to play for us only in the Vitality Blast, If we reach the knockout stages he will be back ....That is unless another bigger money paying offer comes up !
ReplyDeleteIf his contract with Notts allows him to do that, then you can't blame a professional for wanting to maximise his income over a short career. As always has been the case; William Clarke, Shaw and Shrewsbury (the list would be long) all looked at ways to maximise their income from cricket.
DeleteFair point and i guess placed in that situation i would most probably do the same, However if we based his value to Notts on his recent form with us you would have to question his worth.
DeleteIt also makes you wonder what his Notts teammates think with him popping in and out, If it was the Baz of a few years ago they would welcome him with open arms, Now i'm not so sure!
Yes, indeed
DeleteBaz has done nothing wrong - the only question 🙋♀️ to me is whether we should have offered him a new contract with those parameters- or very politely told him to sod off to someone else !!!!
Sadly Notts ccc not worth support or money. Membership must be a third of what it was when I last renewed-2 seasons ago.
ReplyDeleteI agree 100 per cent. Total waste of time and money watching a team managed by a bunch of self interested predictable has beens. This lot don't deserve any support, treat the members with contempt
DeleteSupporting Notts CCC is not compulsary.
DeleteThank heavens for that
DeleteOther teams are available. There are currently still 17 other counties to chose from, all of which will be streaming games in just a few weeks' time.
DeleteYes indeed including all the P**S poor Counties our esteemed DoC referred to(allegedly) at some function - actually no, he admitted it to us at a NCL event where he spoke to us !!!!
DeleteAlways defended Baz Hales up to now - been such a great player for us
ReplyDeleteBut if he would only commit for a guaranteed 8 games of t20 blast 💥 for us this season should we really not be saying “Thanks Baz, you’ve been a brilliant player but it’s now Hasta La Vista” and use his wages on some other resource instead ?
Guess in the cold 🥶 light 💡 of day I’ll just accept it as part n parcel 📦 but it’s the latest example of what a sad 😢 game our cricket 🏏 has already turned into in my opinion

ReplyDeleteThe number one interest in Alex life is —— himself . NOTTS CCC now come a distant second . The bank balance is far more important
Notts Outlaws is just one of many teams Alex Hales opens the batting for. How and why should he be more committed to one of those over and above all the others. Notts alas, have got lost in the crowd. IMO the cycle of T20 tournament after T20 tournament, hopping from one continent to the next with the almost all same faces appearing in each any every one of them, renders the whole lot of it meaningless unless the point is to extract money from a worldwide joe-public and distribute it to 50 -100 already wealthy cricketers and their hangers-on.
DeleteCricket is disintegrating before our eyes. It has become a total free for all and is increasingly meaningless.
ReplyDeleteYes Mr. Nottsview Admin as you say, this is the reality we have to accept and the same with Clarke etc that Notts are now just one of the teams they play for. Andy Pick covered this at a NCL meeting regarding Duckett, before he got established with England 🏴
ReplyDeleteI’ve now accepted that we’re better having Baz Hales for 8 blasters than none at all, the same way as if you brought an overseas in for 8 games
The aspect I find irritating 😠 however, is the players want it all their own way and they want the security of a Notts contract but then to be released when other offers come in - if they come in
Can see contracts getting a bit messy in the future for the top white ballers who are also still playing red ball for the respective Counties.
Whilst I’ve accepted it - I certainly don’t like it but it’s not going to change from now I don’t think.

Players see bundles of £50 notes being dangled in front of them and the red mist comes over .

Sad, the way the game has changed and not for the better The good honest pro's from yester year, are now but a distant memory. All the characters have disappeared and we are left with the clones of modern society, chasing the big bucks.
ReplyDeleteThere are 15 professional leagues in cricket, from which 13 are franchise leagues and two are domestic T20 competitions that attract a variety of overseas stars (Vitality Blast, Super Smash). From the 13 franchise leagues, two are T10, one is in the ‘hundred’ format, while the other 10 are twenty20 competitions.
ReplyDeleteIn 2023, October is the only without any major cricket league competition since October 5 – November 19 is reserved for the 2023 ODI World Cup.
From November 23, 2022 to September 24, 2023, there were only 20 days where franchise cricket was not scheduled (December 5-12, March 19-30).
If we count all the date ranges for the 15 major T20 tournaments, there were 509 days of cricket (greater than 365 because several leagues are now overlapping with each other. Also domestic tournaments like the Vitality blast tend to be spread out longer with breaks. Actual cricket might not be played every day).
Lucky for the franchise schedulers 2024 is a leap year with that extra day to spread out those fixtures.

ReplyDeleteFantastic research Anonymous - thanks for posting - no doubt pretty time consuming .
Things in cricket are changing at bewildering speed .
Hard to fully comprehend
Spoke to a mate on the train 🚂 this morning and as he said - Baz Hales is just a pro wanting to maximise his earnings in a relatively short(ish) career. It’s the only way you can look at it nowadays and would we all not do the same in his position at his age ? It’s easy to say we would show loyalty to Notts
ReplyDeletebut as pointed out Notts has not been his only club since he turned white ball
The club stuck by him through his difficult times however so perhaps you may expect some loyalty to us ?
At the end of the day - Baz can ask for what terms&conditions he wants - the club can always say NO to him - there’s no new contract
So why didn't the club so no? Or not leave themselves open to something like this. Total incompetence - Again. They give Carter and Moores deals now this! On top of continuing to sign injured players. Disappointing. But nobody complains
ReplyDeleteYes, guess on balance they think 7 is it(?) games with Baz Hales is still better than no games with him so with reluctance(I’m hoping) agreed to his T&Cs on this one
ReplyDeleteHales. Commit to full Blast or buzz off. Easy.
ReplyDeleteI think he's opted to do a Highland fling

ReplyDeleteAlex Hales has had more clubs than Tiger Woods .
Has any player ever played for more different teams I wonder?
Maximize your income - while you still can seems to be the sole objective of Alex
His powers are noticeably on the wain and perhaps he only has one more season left where his services are still sought after?
Poor Tiger is limited to 14 clubs, even 21 year old Fazalhaq Farooqi has had more clubs than that. Alex must be pushing 20 odd clubs by now if you count the Mickey Mouse T10 slogfests.
DeleteImran Tahir ? He’ll be up there I think
DeleteGood luck to the new 2 signings we’ve made sharing the 14 blast 💥 games
Imran Tahir's in a league of his own, with I reckon over 40 franchises, clubs and counties in his CV.

DeleteYears ago it was pretty rare for a County pro to change Clubs . You simply stayed for years and years , , knuckled down and hoped to get a proper benefit year in due course before you hung your jock strap up for good . It was an apparent “ gentlemen’s agreement “ that players were not poached away from one club to another .
But the “ times they are changin!”
Some modern players must find it hard to remember who they are actually playing for!?
One cricketer who I won't name here writes the name of the franchise team he is playing for on his left wrist in pen so he remembers when faced with media interviews. I kid you not.
DeleteCounty cricket has we remember it will disappear in 5 years or less. Then players can play 100 and T20 because nothing will be left.
ReplyDeleteThe movement of players across teams and tournaments is a complete joke and the ICC has no control over world cricket.
ReplyDeleteYes, Mr. Nottsviewer Admin - just when you think the ‘stragglers’ previously drafted or purchased into the Trent Rocketmen to make it seem (unsuccessfully in my opinion) more attractive to the ‘real’ Notts fans and Members out there, have nowhere to go - lo and behold a new spurious T10 league is announced
ReplyDeleteAs this utterly ridiculous format is a competition requiring little skill and technique, there must be quite a few out there hoping to line up a few weeks north of the border in August instead of playing any 50 over cricket 🏏 or even worse, a dreaded 4 day game for the 2s during this period
Welcome Farhan, meantime hope Notts play LPW, Harrison and James in all matches from now on. They plus the Skip and JC could be the basis of a decent team.
ReplyDeleteIf players of the ages 19, 20, 21, 22 are deemed too young by our esteemed head coach, what chance has a 16 year old got.
DeleteCmon NVA - he actually put ‘Terry’ McCann in the first team squad last game - that was a real gut wrenching risk based decision for the Head Coach and a good news 🗞 story for Notts Pravda thrown in as a bonus - this will be seen as real change by him ?
DeleteNote 📝 Kirstie Gordon has signed a new 3 year contract for The Blaze, ahead of the new Tier restructuring from next season. Desperately hoping the lovely Marie Kelly follows suit now and we can keep her here for another 3 years also. She’s much better off here, than Edgbaston

ReplyDeleteI think if you look at the 2 year contract for Rob Lord you can see it as insurance.
ReplyDeleteFletcher Hutton Stone. Pennington and Tongue don’t have great fitness or availability figures. Add to that that if and when they do , then England might come calling.
Interesting will be what happens with Pettman and Loten. They’ve acarwcelt had a chance but I suspect will be shown the door

ReplyDeleteQUESTION
It’s the first Championship game of 2025.
Who wears the wicketkeepers gloves ?
Tom M ?
Dane S ?
New signing?
If they think Dane S is the future then I would have thought a minimum of a two year contract would have been awarded .We are evidently stuck with hapless Tom M for another year ( don’t look at his averages for 2024!)
Wouldn't the long term direction and selection of the squad be dependent on who the head coach is. Short contracts suggest (to me) that Newell is keeping his options open with certain individuals in the expectation that the person in the head coach position will be changing before or during 2025. I might be being too optimistic there. It could equally signify that Moores and Newell don't know what the heck they are doing, and are just crossing their fingers and hoping someone clicks. They got lucky in 2024 when Farhan, Freddie and Rob Lord almost fell into their laps from no where. I don't see Newell as a great strategist on player and playing matters, only being adept in covering his own back, dodging flak and keeping his cosy job.
DeleteTotally agree. A one year contract is neither here nor there. Get injured or have bad weather (the latter being more likely as we squeeze more championship games into April and September) and then what do you do ?
DeleteI can’t see us in red ball cricket going back to Tom M. Why will he be better in 2025 than the player they had to replace (presumably at short notice and with some expense) in 2024
JimG.
I see King threatening Haynes for his postition as I give him 3/10 for ODC, 4/10 for T20 and 6/10 for CC in 2024. Remarkably Haynes played every game in all comps for which I give Moors 2/10.
DeleteI dont think Haynes has the mettle deep down to win games on his own.(1 day stuff obvs)
Ted
Wish Conor well, and no reason to think he has injury issues, just that we have been bitten by that so often.
ReplyDeleteWow. Will Notts mangement ever stop making mistakes. I thought it was a joke when I heard of this sighing. Derbyshire just pulled the plug on signing him! He showed promise initially but past years no better than a minor county player. Genuinely shocked at this.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't make much sense giving King and Schadendorf only one year contracts. You either back them, or you don't.
ReplyDeleteKing should be an asset in limited overs cricket and given the opportunity, could nail down a slot in the middle order.
Schadendorf is a far more accomplished batsman than Tom Moores, and also a better keeper.
He has to be the future in that position. The problem that Newell created for himself , was extending Tom Moores contract till the end of 2025, which will cost the club in excess of 100k. Thorough waste of the club's funds. What a plonker.
As for Mckerr, he still has to prove, that he is capable of contributing consistently in all forms of cricket, and a 3 year contract for a player with his record, is in my opinion too long.
Remember, Lord was only given a 2 year contract, and he thoroughly outbowled Mckerr in the Metro Bank cup game.
As we know, Newell always backs players from other counties , ahead of those local players under his nose.
Over the years, he must have wasted hundreds of thousands of pounds of the clubs money, on underperforming players, on long term contracts.
Let's hope McKerr is not added to that long list.

ReplyDeleteSome good summing up and observations on this thread. Its amazing that nearly everyone who posts on Notts View think that Moores Senior , Moores Junior and Mick the DOC are plonkers!
Management wise more out of touch. Moores Jr wise not a plonker more stopped developing and sadly went backwards. He needs a new club and environment but can't imagine a queue forming.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting observations on these one year deals.
ReplyDeleteGenerally in the business world if you know you don't have long term people at the top, then you just keep things ticking over until the new top team arrives.
One year deals suggest this might be the approach.
Alternatively from the players' point of view, if they are being held back by the leadership of that county for some reason beyond merit, then a year's contract gives that player another opportunity to showcase their skills to other counties and if the leadership doesn't change in that year and/or still holds those same prejudices then the player can move elsewhere once they have been able to showcase what they can do in that year.
DeleteBoth Schadey and Sammy haven't had the opportunities so far to show their first team potential in any meaningful way, the same goes for Fateh. It's hard for players to break into the Notts first XI, not because of the strength of the players within it already necessarily, but because the head coach is blinkered and does have this sense of loyalty to players that he and Newell have brought to Notts from other counties. The only exception to that rule is the wicketkeeper, where nepotism trumps misguided loyalty everytime.
I don't know if young Farhan is still committed to a school or college education programme, but if not, you would assume he will be first choice spinner in the Championship.
ReplyDeleteWhere does this leave the other 3 spin bowler's, namely Harrison, Patterson White and Singh?
Surely, they are not going to be content, competing to play in a few limited overs games throughout the season.
I can forsee one or two of those moving on at the end of their contracts.
As for Farhan's availability: as I understand it, young people can leave education before 18 if the job that they are going to has some element of training. All young people must strive to achieve GCSE grade 4, or stay working towards that grade through functional stills qualifications in both Maths and English up until they 18 - this comes as a terrible shock to some apprentices. I have no idea what Farhan's grades were.
DeleteAs Farhan is going with England Lions to South Africa, you'd have to assume everything is under control and is planned out for the next couple of years. I believe Notts envisage Farhan being scooped-up by England in the near future, so see his availability being limited.
Delete
