JAMES COPS UNWANTED RECORD AS OUTLAWS ARRESTED
Notts lost their opening match of the Metro Bank competition by 15 runs via the DLS method at Grace Road after mid-afternoon rain took 36 overs out of the Notts innings.
Fletcher (Bennett End) started off with a maiden, James struggling with his line went for 12 in the second over Farhan Ahmed took over from James for the 4th over. In the 5th over, Budinger was dropped on 15, a regulation catch to Moores off Fletcher. A very expensive miss; Moores kept untidily throughout an innings where Notts fielded spiritly taking three excellent outfield catches. Swindells hit Ahmed for six over long off. Four balls later Budinger hit Ahmed for 6 over mid-wicket, 13 for the 6th over. Ahmed went for 11 in his third over with Leicestershire going past 50 in the 8th over. Lord bowled the 10th over which went for six runs. Leicestershire 61 for 0 off 10 overs.
After a good opening spell of 6 overs for 16 by Fletcher, Patterson-White came on from the Bennett End. Budinger got to his 50 off 47 balls with a single off Lord in the 16th over. Swindells (35) was caught at long on off Patterson-White, 95 for 1 in the 17th over. James returned from the Pavilion End for the 18th over, Lord's opening spell 4 0 25 0, the Foxes reaching their 100 via a single for Budinger. James conceded 16 runs in the 22nd over including two boundaries for Budinger and five wides. Farhan Ahmed replaced Patterson-White for the 23rd over. Montgomery replaced James for the following over. Farhan Ahmed picked up his first professional wicket having Budinger (75 off 74 balls, 10x4, 1x6) well caught by McCann diving to his left at long off, 174 for 2 in the 27th over. The second wicket had added 79 in 10 overs. Rahane hit the returning Lord for three boundaries in the 28th over which went for 14 runs. Lord given a solitary over with Montgomery returning. Hill got to his 50 off 43 balls with a single off Montgomery (3 0 17 0) in the 30th over. The Leicestershire 200 was achieved in the next over with Fletcher returning. The bowling changes continued with Patterson-White coming on for the 32nd over from the Pavilion End. Hill hit Patterson-White for six over long on in the 34th over. Lord returned but continued to leak runs with 11 runs off the 35th over. The 36th over bowled by James went for 12. Hill (81 off 68 balls, 9x4, 1x6) dragged a delivery from James onto his stumps, 256 for 3, two off the 38th over. Farhan went for three singles during the 39th over. Rahane reached his 50 in 38 balls. Leicestershire 270 for 3 off 40 overs.
Ahmed (9 0 69 1) conceded 13 in the 43rd over. The Leicestershire 300 came up via six by Handscomb off a Lord full toss. Handscomb was brilliantly caught by the diving Patterson-White at mid-off off Lord (8 0 68 1); 304 for 4 in the 44th over. Fletcher returned for the 46th over. Patterson-White (10 0 60 1) conceded two off his last over. A full toss from James was hit by Rahane (71 off 60 balls, 9x4) straight to McCann at mid-wicket, 322 for 5 in the 48th over. Cox hit James for six over mid-wicket. Cox hit Fletcher (10 1 45 0) for six over square leg, 14 off the 49th over. James bowled the last over, Cox hitting him for six off mid-wicket. Cox (29) was well caught by Hameed at extra cover off a James full toss, 354 for 6. Mike hit his first ball for six over extra cover, Mike was dropped on 6 by Hameed on the extra cover ropes. James (10 0 105 3) bowled a wide and Mike hit the last ball for a straight six. The 22 off the final over left James with the most expensive figures in Notts List A history. Leicestershire 369 for 6 off 50 overs with Mike on 13 and Martindale on 3. Fletcher bowled his heart out and Patterson-White bowled tidily. Notts mainly inexperienced attack conceded for too many wides (26). Lord at times looked brisk, but is very much work in progress and quite frankly does not look ready for first team cricket. But as I implied earlier, don't totally blame the bowlers, the situation had been created by a result of poor preparation. Leicestershire have been hit equally as hard to Hundred call ups but had contingency plans, Notts had next to none besides calling up a player out of the Cheshire league. Pathetic!
McCann and Slater got Notts off to a satisfactory start before unexpected rain halted the contest.
Slater hit the fourth delivery of the reply for six over square leg. McCann hit consecutive boundaries off Wright in the 4th over. Salisbury bowled 4 overs for 21 before making way for Scriven. With rain imminent and Notts trying to get over the DLS par score, McCann should have been run out when 22 following a misunderstanding with Slater in the 10th over bowled by Wright (5 1 20 0). Notts 48 for 0 after 10 overs.
Rain stopped play at 1550 with Notts 50 for 0 off 10.1 overs with Slater on 24 and McCann on 23. Five runs behind the DLS par score.
Play restarted at 1828 with Notts requiring a very distant further 55 off 3.5 overs at 14.34 RPO. Rightly or wrong, Slater and McCann were immediately retired out. Haynes was dismissed off the first ball of the resumption lbw to Scriven for a golden duck. James also went first ball caught on the mid-wicket ropes by Mike. Notts had lost FOUR WICKETS IN TWO BALLS, surely a world record, their masterplan immediately blown in tatters!
Six further runs came from the 11th over. Patterson-White was caught and bowled by Mike for 5, 61 for 5. Ten came off the 12th over. Montgomery (3) skied Scriven and was caught by Mike at short third man, 67 for 6. Scriven (3 0 20 3) had conceded 6 in the 13th over. Some late hitting by Moores (23* off 11 balls, 5x4) saw him blast four boundaries off the last over bowled by Mike (2 0 26 1) which went for 17. Notts 89-6 off 14 overs. Lord 6 not out. Notts though realistically had got away with one here with a heavy defeat very much expected prior to the rain delay despite the promising start.
Its going be a long three weeks for Notts supporters. Next up Welbeck, always a seamers wicket early doors. You win the toss and insert every time and just bowl line and length. Pettman would be a sensible selection for these two fixtures. MAG
Squad:
Pravda has waved bye-bye today to the trio of overseas players that appeared for the nineth best side in the North Group and we already know that Dane Paterson has been called-up by South Africa, so a managerial decision has been made to not employ a replacement, which speaks volumes about the club's ambitions in this competition.
The Notts Outlaws squad, fresh off Pravda's presses:
Foxes have two overseas players in their squad: Rahane and Handscomb.
Preview
On the heels of Notts' humiliating defeat at the hands of the Yellowbellies, Leicestershire too had an embarrassing defeat, this time to Buckinghamshire.
With the so-called first class counties largely fielding second teamers, does this suggest that the National Counties system is of a higher standard now than what the SEC is producing? Derbyshire lost to Cheshire at the weekend as well. Should FCCs now be entering teams into the NCA competitions as they once did back in the Minor counties days, to raise standards and prepare better readiness for the step-up to proper first class? Or is it the case that the cricketing gene pool is now too small in the East Midlands, and that is a contributing factor to the lack of depth?
The Metro Bank Cup, a developmental competition to some, whilst others take it a bit more seriously.
Defending champions, Leicestershire will no doubt be calling upon the services of an Indian Test superstar, whilst Notts have Tom Moores available this year, no less.
One person happy with the lack of depth will be drowning coach
Recent defeats hard to take. But any sign that we are not committed to this competition unacceptable.

ReplyDeleteIs it a case of sink or swim for Notts in the 50 over Comp ?
It produces some cracking matches every season . Far more gripping and enjoyable than many Blast 20 matches .
But many players now apparently don’t want to play it .
With the now elongated cricket season , still being pretty congested is it the one competition that could be expendable . Don’t think some Counties of the ECB would mind too much?
Who would have thought years ago that you could be watching County Cricket at TB only a day before the start of Goose Fair .
( In my younger days I well remember there being ice and snow for Goose Fair !)
There is a great chance for someone to make a name for themselves in the 50 over competition.
ReplyDeleteIf we watch another 8 games of dross in addition to the T20 and County Championship, then heads must roll.
Tom Moores! Omg. Least I'm saving on a couple of trips to mansfield
ReplyDeleteJames is bowling absolute dross
ReplyDeleteplenty of variation - too short or too full or a full toss or too wide just aint got the skills to execute

ReplyDeleteWhen Peter Moores eventually seeks fresh pastures ( unless the Doc provides another contract extension) then what happens to favoured son Tom ? Without Peters unwavering support then will Tom be jettisoned shortly afterwards.?
Tom burst on the scene in the First 11 and seemed to do ok with a limited technique . But he has not progressed . Probably gone backwards if stats are anything to go by ?
Agree with this. To be fair Tom had a hard act to follow after Chris Read who is surely one of the best w/k batters Notts have ever had. First couple of seasons he seemed to do OK but is now going backwards at a ridiculous rate. Club standard cricketer at best
DeleteExcept for fletcher the bowling very poor
ReplyDeleteUndisciplined performance 26 wides
Let's hope it gets better when we bat
Unwelcome record for Lyndon James. The first Notts bowler in List A history to concede a hundred runs.
ReplyDeletemore pies than pork farms
DeleteNotts lose 4 wickets in 2 balls ? That record will NEVER be beaten
ReplyDeleteI was disgusted with Samit (and management) two years ago when he retired out in a loss at Edgbaston. Today Im disgusted x 2 with that same management, the only saving grace was that this unsporting dmove backfired big time. Retire outs have no business in a competitive sporting fair contest. Peter Moores needs to leave NOW. Just my opinion, Im sure others dont have a problem with it.
Delete100 percent
DeleteRetire Outs in a competitive, fair contest make my blood boil too- Notts should have no business entertaining such unsporting gamesmanship. If a player needs to get out for the good of the team, go for a massive slog, be out that way - Tom Moores plays like that in most games anyway.
DeletePoor batting again should have walked it knowing what was required
ReplyDeleteWho made that ridiculous call to retire the 2 batsman who were set, well lads we will take it on the chin dust ourselves down & go again at welbeck we are the laughing stock of English cricket
ReplyDeletePeter Moores ultimately - he's got to go
DeleteSomething has changed between Foxes and Us. Really since the mid 70s , whatever the result turned out to be, we were the favourites. This year, we are the same underdogs.
ReplyDeleteWe are not a big team now, that hurts, but does it hurt the M&N "leadership" ?
They don't care. changes would have been made or planned for next season. We all know it's going to be the same team at the top table.
ReplyDeleteIf nobody renewed membership or Informed the club of that intention on mass- maybe something would happen. But long serving members are happy to clap these losers back to the pavilion.

ReplyDeleteSurely something has to give sooner or later! Sponsors and backers like John Pye will want a better showing to showcase their goods and services!?.
Financial pressures affect all 18 Counties all the time . But a losing side , playing without apparent resolve compounds the problem . At the end of the day it may be the BALANCE SHEET that relieves the Club of the DOC and PM ?
Money talks !
Re the restart, Peter Moores says he thought it was best to go with the players that played in the Blast - like they were ever successful! Notts are a total shambles at the moment and Peter Moores should take the lion's share of the responsibility for that.
ReplyDeletePeter Moores is a liability now, please, if you read this, resign !

ReplyDeleteRich - pigs might fly !
Do you want odds of 1000-1 that PM will still be choosing the Notts team for the final match in Sept . The top table are onto a good thing . We know it . They know it !
Said several times the answer is with the members.
ReplyDeleteThe club needs a total reset
ReplyDeleteFrom the CEO down to it's cricket academy
People have just been there to long with no accountability
The club needs a new direction & leadership the members hold the power
They own the club they choose the chairman & committee to represent them at the top table, well it was until the CEO interference with what in principle was a good idea at the time but as failed
Miserably with all hand picked by the CEO
Who then all follow her script look at the present chairman, it's the committee that employ all the staff at the club on behalf of the members & they have the power to remove any individuals, do we have the right people looking after members interests i personally think not so what's the answer ?
Your thoughts
Peter Moores must go. Young McCann batted well at Yorkshire and again at Leicester. Peter Moores in his nepotism, decides to retire him out, and then put his son into bat, as he has had more T20 experience.....
ReplyDeleteThe same son, who has batted terribly all season in T20. How can he swing the bat so hard, but the ball goes nowhere???
In terms of bowling, Lyndon James bowled 10 overs for 105. I reckon I ought to bring my whites to Welbeck, and the rest of this forum should too, as we could probably bowl 10 overs for 105.
The whole place is rotten to the core. Very sad to see. Notts need a complete clear out of coaching staff, as this season has been terrible.

ReplyDeleteIn all my years of reading Notts View I have not witnessed so much anger being directed at the top table plus compliant hangers on .
It’s quite obvious to many on here that the highly paid coach/manager/ Doc are simply no longer up to it . Have they all taken their eyes off the ball and are thus keeping tabs on the developing 100 Ball sell off .?
2019 : PJ aka Phil Measures, may he be resting in peace, wasn't backwards with coming forwards with what he thought of the top table and chairman Richard Tennant in particular, if you remember.
DeleteMick newall states he as no influence on
ReplyDeleteFirst team cricket if that's true
I think as director of cricket he should
Be shown the way to the Dixon gates as well unbelievable what a shambles
