Essex MBC Group A at Welbeck CC Match Day

05/08

Sunshine and showers forecast today with the balance between the two being key to what sort of game, if any, we get.

Daniel Sams last played a List A game in February 2023.

04/08

Notts squad:

Ben Slater
Lyndon James
Ben Martindale
Haseeb Hameed
Jack Haynes
Sammy King
Sam Seecharan
Tom Moores
Daniel Sams
Joe Pocklington
Brett Hutton
Rob Lord
Tom Giles
James Hayes

Just to quash any positivity for Notts supporters, Farhan Ahmed has been signed by the Manchester franchise for a replacement for fast bowler Merchant de Lange. No wonder Sammy King was has being coached on bowling spin last week, he could get him gig in the H*ndred if word got out that Notts had yet another spinner.

Essex Squad:

Tom Westley
Charlie Allison
Luc Benkenstein
Charlie Bennett
Nick Browne
Matt Critchley
Rob Das
Simon Fernandes
Jamie Porter
Jamal Richards
Shane Snater
Noah Thain

As anticipated, Notts have looked to strengthen their spin bowling options with the signing of second eleven regular Joe Pocklington.

He's cool, he bowls in his shades!

Also added to the extended squad was the highly rated young all rounder Byron Hatton-Lowe

03/08

The General takes charge for this competition and if he excels, where does he go for the next three years, after Myopic Mick threw money at the Silver Fox situation?

Have we been told who will be captain, or do we assume it's Club captain Hameed again?

After the H*ndred casualties we still have a number of a professionals on the books, so can The General forge a balanced side from those?

Haseeb Hameed
Jack Haynes
Brett Hutton
Lyndon James
Tom Moores
Ben Slater

Farhan Ahmed
Sammy King
Rob Lord
Ben Martindale
Dane Schadendorf
Sam Seecharan

Tom Giles
Byron Hatton-Lowe
James Hayes
Travis Holland* (broken finger 23/06)
Francis Moore
Conor McKerr*
Joe Pocklington

and not forgetting Mick Newell's promised overseas signing, be it Daniel Sams or someone else wishing to be in the H*ndred shop window. What's Dane Paterson doing this month or Wiaan Mulder?

Obviously it will be difficult to secure anyone (in the Newell Pravda world) as Peter Moores isn't involved with Notts for this competition, he being the great attraction for anyone aspiring to do better for themself.

As you can see, we're light on first team bowling experience and after the Welbeck games, should Brett Hutton be looked after a bit?

How many of those listed above are injured already, is a State Secret*, so news of such won't be found on Pravda.

  1. Would be nice if Notts could have second big final/finals day at Trent Bridge. Think only other one 2006 ? Will have to play a lot better than they have in last 4 seasons for that to happen.

    1. Was quite confident about 3 weeks ago Rich but unexpectedly losing “Terry” McCann and LPW and now General Monty, allied to the fitness issues etc with the bowlers…….er suddenly not confident at all
But yes, would be absolutely fabulous to reach a home 🏡 final & I still regard this Metro 🚇 Bank 50 as a prestigious competition and will be there as usual no matter who is playing

    2. Whilst members and supporters may still view the Metro Bank One Day Cup as a prestigious competition, this view does not appear to be shared by the club hierarchy who seem to treat it as glorified second eleven competition demonstrated by the lack of resources they make available to the General - Kermit

THE GENERAL is ambitious . Will he be happy to play second fiddle to Peter Moores for THREE years?
Three years is a long time and many opportunities will crop up elsewhere . He is a Notts man through and through but cricket can provide a good living for the top positions .

If Joe Pocklington makes his first team debut tomorrow he'll join an illustrious list including . . .

    Richard Bielby
    Brett Hutton
    John Seaton
    John Snaith
    William Upton
    Guy Welton

. . . . of NCCC cricketers who's surname is also a settlement in the East Riding of Yorkshire.

    3. Nor Colin Banton Bainton, I assume. Rules are rules!

Quite right, and to even think about suggesting Cecil Sutton (-upon-Derwent) would be to develop a theme way beyond what is acceptable.

  4. How on earth 🌍 can the Manchester Aboriginals possibly see the little wizard 🧙‍♀️ as a like for like replacement for MDL ??
Why don’t they rest Phil Salt……and replace him with Hitman Hutton now also ????

    1. Thanks. The way Dane has been batting, he should be in squad even so.

    Poor Dane S
Never gets given a chance nowadays
    Always on the fringe
Surely he will get fed up and move on when his contract expires ( or before?)
Must be so frustrating when you know the door is closed time after time .
With the HINDRED now taking the limelight ( and best players) is the Metro Cup becoming the forgotten competition with no relevance ! I bet some newspapers will not even publish the match results . Got a feeling the Welbeck attendances will be well down this year .
Without a car - then how do members get to see the match ? Where is the supporters coach ? Surely Notts ccc could get 30/40/50 fans who would be happy to travel up there and back on a decent coach?
Was the idea even suggested this year ?
