MORE OR LESS BOWLERS RUNNING OUT THE NON-STRIKING BATSMAN?

Director ponders his options.

In an interview for the NEP, relayed on the Notts website.

1/ Director Newell doesn't want to switch and change his overseas player/s over a whole season and would prefer one overseas player that has season long availability.

In 2011 this (switching, mixing and matching) clearly didn't lead to success on the field in the LV= nor the CB40 competitions.

For the t20 competition MN cedes that the best option is to retain 2 overseas t20 specialists - gunslingers! But with Samit Patel's possible call-up for International duty during next year's competition, a batting spin bowler is likely to be on the Director's shopping list.

2/ Use the pot of cash made available by Mark Wagh's departure and the vacant overseas position (if he chooses not to sign one), the balance after Michael Lumb's slice of the pie, to sign another English top order batter!

However any quality English qualified top 5 batsman that is out of contract is a rare commodity, but Newell reckons this option is easier to find than locating a good overseas player that is available April to September ........................ he just might be right.

The article states a signature will happen, hopefully, within the month.

Another option might be sticking his (Mick N's) neck out and signing some young unproven talent, overseas or not, and give him a chance to prove himself.

3/ And buy a single train ticket out of Nottingham Midland for one to Exeter St David's or beyond!

Meanwhile at Grace Road, they have had a revolving door installed to Mr Siddall's office - out have gone Harry Gurney and Paul Badger Big Gob Nixon but in has come Martin van Jaarsveld from cash-cutting Kent only to be followed in the outwards direction by Andrew McDonald. No championship overseas player likely for them either? Little James Taylor is being pursued by a large Bear, so they say!

Sheep have been to market and returned with another spinner, David Wainwright as the slaughterman's axe continues to be swung at Headingley. DW had an escape clause in his contract and used it!
