Postcard from New South Wales 2

Andy M who recently married and went to live down-under sent this bulletin from the latest crushing defeat for England Lions, now 4-0 down v Aus A.

G'day, Carolyn and I went to the SCG today to watch Aus A v Eng Lions. It was a warm sunny day and Aus A elected to bat . Arron Finch and Adam Voges were the heaviest scorers with captain  Finch getting a well deserved ton and Adam Voges played well for his 81, run out from a direct hit . Meaker got some punishment and overall the Lions bowling was moderate as Aus A made 285 in 50. Ricky Clarke bowled reasonably well in a morass of average-ness

We had a lunch of pies and liquid refreshment behind the main stand and I eagerly awaited Alex Hales innings. Unfortunately he miscued a cut shot to point on 3 and that was that. Diddy Man Taylor scratched around for a while for a disappointing 13 and England were struggling.Gary Ballance however had a fine knock and was in his 70s and the Lions still in the game when a sharp delivery from Mc Dermott was deflected into his face off his own bat. He retired hurt after receiving lengthy attention at the crease. Happily he walked back, albeit shakily, to the pavilion,. We watched the match from the lovely Ladies Pavilion which is next to the Members one. Both beautiful structures remain exempt happily from the redevelopment occurring at the ground. England Lions finished on 240. all out with the hosts comfortable victors

On leaving the place we bumped into Stuart MacGill who I spoke to briefly. I mentioned that his time at Trent Bridge was appreciated by Notts supporters including myself and was he going back to England. He said that's nice , he rated Alex Hales and now works for Google cricket and would be with the Aussie media in England in the summer so look out for him. Great facts about Stuie are that he refused to appear in KFC ads for Cricket Australia and was the only Aussie to refuse to tour with Australia  in Zimbabwe on moral grounds as he disagreed with what Mugabe was up to  . A great reader he read 24 novels on a tour of Sri Lanka. He was interviewing Andy Bichel.
