Last Wicket - RIP Tony Oughton 1964 - 2023

Remember the days when operating a scoreboard at Trent Bridge was a job not only for a multitasker, but multiple jobs for multiple multitaskers.

Sadly, one of those multitaskers has recently passed away after a long illness. Rest in peace Anthony F Oughton. Tony, 58, was a former pupil of Ellis Guildford School, a resident of Old Basford and a Notts County supporter.

Tony's scoreboard CV would have included stints in the Hound Road box, and after that's demise in the Parr Stand box, before again moving on after that one's decommissioning to working in old tall scoreboard.

  1. Used to love sitting in the old Parr/West Wing stands. Best views of the play IMO
Vividly recall that small scoreboard in the Parr Stand
Very seldom go in the new “Fridge” stand for obvious reasons, it IS a great view but with the rows of the seats being in a straight line, you can often be sitting across a seat at angle to the wicket or having to twist your neck at an angle constantly and with the physical problems I suffer with, have never found it a very comfortable viewing stand.
Can always remember(don’t know if it was Tony, now sadly departed) a lad in this scoreboard getting really excited when Kevin Pietersen hit 254 not out versus Middlesex in August 2002 but presumably must be a good chance it would have been him
Good memories for me personally, but now more than tinged with sadness with the news about ‘Tony’
