Can remember seeing Boycott play for Yorkshire against us and also for England 🏴 versus West Indies in a Test Match at Trent Bridge
ReplyDeleteYou can say what you want about the bloke and it’s a totally different game now with the white ball competitions but 151 hundreds in your first class career averaging 56 is very hard to argue with
Can recall him refusing to sign his autograph for a supporter who had bought a book about him saying that’s not one of my books - Classic Boycott ?
80 NOT OUT .
ReplyDeleteRe Boycott non autograph signing . I was also there that day . It happened just in front of the Yorkshire team dressing balcony . It was a young lad aged about 12 who thrust the book towards Sir Geoffrey. It wasn’t a nice thing to happen to a young cricket supporter . It’s strange what little incidents Spring to mind .
Ashley Metcalfe was a hugely talented batsman for the Tykes when in his prime
ReplyDeleteQuality opening partnership with Martyn Moxon
I met Sir Geoffrey at Headingly during an England 🏴 v South Africa 🇿🇦 one day international we waited all day to start but rained off the sun came out and hd politely told us it needed to sunshine all day for the pitch to dry out he gladly singed my program I found his yes a brisk Yorkshire man but very pleasant
DeleteI believe he finished one county season averaging 100+ in red ball cricket 🏏- absolutely incredible and I’m reasonably sure Mark Ramprakash also did the same
ReplyDeleteThey were the days…..batt/bowl averages on teletext
