My name is Nick Evans and I’m emailing you as Notts members on behalf of Alan Higham who has been leading the campaign for County Cricket members to have a say in the future direction of the game.
You should have received a communication from the club this week outlining their current position on the private investment in the game. It is a bit vague but the whole national situation is a bit vague at present.
The point of this email group is to keep you up to date with any developments that we feel you should know about that would affect what sort of cricket you get to watch at Trent Bridge next season and beyond that.
Please come to the Members Forum at lunch on the Friday of the Hampshire game next week so remind the committee about how much we care about the direction of travel from the ECB.
For a journalists view on the current situation, see this article by Barney Ronay in the Guardian (https://www.theguardian.com/sport/blog/article/2024/may/09/selling-off-summer-why-plans-for-hundred-should-matter-to-all-cricket-lovers) and the letter from Alan Higham in response. (https://www.theguardian.com/sport/article/2024/may/13/profit-trumps-all-in-plans-for-the-hundred).
If you want to contact me about this email or anything else, my personal email address is below.
Cheers,
Nick Evans

About Mark Dennison (from Radio Nottingham)
Mark was born in Manchester but moved to the north east of England when he was four. His earliest memory of this was falling off his go-kart and cracking his head open on moving day....ouch!
He came to Nottingham in the late 1980s to study humanities (that's right - he couldn't decide what to do, so chose a mish-mash of subjects) at Nottingham Trent. It was here that a passion for radio was ignited.
Mark worked voluntarily for Nottingham Hospitals Radio. His big break came in the early 1990s, when some weekend work/holiday cover came up at TFM radio in the north east and later at Trent FM in Nottingham.
After graduating, Mark's radio career took him back to the north east, then to Yorkshire and back to Nottingham in 1996. He stayed at Trent FM until 2010, when he joined the BBC.
Mark loves to take the show out on the road; outside broadcasts include a week-long trip along the Trent and the canals by boat, exploring Nottinghamshire by caravan and a live show from Sarajevo to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Torvil and Dean’s Olympic triumph.
Mark is married to the legendary 'Mrs D', who works for the NHS. They have a son and a daughter, plus a Labrador called Oscar.
Mark's interests include cooking, playing squash and cycling – he’s taken part in several charity rides, including London to Paris, 100 miles in a day around London in 2015, and the Great Notts Bike Ride.
Also, Mark is a keen Forest fan - he attends most home games and does the stadium announcements on match days.
This game is being streamed by the TB Stream Team, check it out on Youtube.

ReplyDeleteWhat a legend Joe Hardstaff was . I went to High Pavement Gram School and Joe,s son was in my class in about 1956. Nice lad , tall with blond hair and told us stories about his Dads career. R
So pleased for Liam !
ReplyDeleteNoticed sir Toby didn't bowl.Is he injured now.
ReplyDeleteYes I hadn’t arrived at the time but Sir Toby of Pettman pulled up lame after bowling 2.1 overs in Derbyshire’s first innings
ReplyDeleteYes, agree Rich, you can only play whatever the opposition standard is - you’ve still got to do it, so very well bowled LPW on that 9 wicket haul - it shows the huge gulf in class between players in and around our first team in comparison to the second team of a small Div2 County in Derbyshire with regard to both LPW and Tumbling Major Tom yesterday - this is what they have to do when dropped, take it on the chin, swallow your pride, stick your chest out and produce match-winning performances for the stiffs and put pressure on those first eleven picks to keep performing
ReplyDeleteRather liked Colin, had some good chats with him. He also did Nottingham Tennis Open. His chairing of NCCC members' forums, probably a bit too fair for those in charge ?
ReplyDelete80 NOT OUT

Perhaps The Caped Prince may play a few Shadows tunes along with Marty Wilde and Billy Fury classics ?
( or perhaps not!)
Got to keep the spectators entertained for every second of the match and interval . Otherwise they may talk to each other!
As Fred Trueman used to say
“ I don’t know what’s going on out there!”
80 NOT OUT
ReplyDeleteIt’s good that certain cricket supporters are taking a close interest in what’s going on at ECB headquarters .
Pressure groups , properly organized CAN change things !
It’s official 80 NOT OUT - acc to Notts Twitter, the Fresh Prince 👑 of Trent Bridge is back, starting next Sunday - is that the Robson & Jerome pre City Ground Take That party 🎉?
