Perhaps the best interview this pair have done this season, but in my view they still should have followed up more on some of PM's answers. VFTB seem to be Blast-centric at times but never picked Moores up on why it took five games before he played LPW, even when PM admitted that Samit's departure had opened the door long over due for Liam in that format - surely that would have been worked upon last winter after Patel had gone (compounded by Carter's departure)?
They actually broached the Tom Moores problem, delicately, but we didn't really get any answers that suggested that next season the situation will be any better. "Tom had a poor season" and it appears that it's the supporters fault for noticing that.
A lot of blame spreading with the use of "we" when it came to selections. Is Peter Moores a coach or the HEAD COACH at NCCC?
I would recommend everyone gave this interview a listen.
Did Moores dodge the question about his own contract at the end?

Pravda has helpfully been informative for once
It mentions that as well as Alex Hales sunning himself for Ajman Bolts in the Abu Dhabi T10 slogfest, Peter Moores will be batting coach for the Deccan Gladiators, before he rejoins Melbourne Stars as head coach in the Big Bash.
On matters Moores, Tom Moores, conspicuous by his absences in September, has been royally living it up with the Atlanta Kings in the Dallas based National Cricket League (T10) during October and is due to join the Butwal based Lumbini Lions in the Nepal Premier League from the end of November.
Calvin Harrison meanwhile will playing Victorian Premier Cricket for (Senior Head coach) David Alleyne's Camberwell Magpies read here
Monty is also in Australia.

Last night Notts and as well the Blaze had their end of school year prize giving, as it were.
I'm sure the names for the categories of these prizes change on an almost yearly basis, so this year:
Most Improved Player - Sam Seecharan
As with most families, and with Notts being the biggest family club that Peter Moores has known, in the next category they couldn't chose between favourite sons...
Emerging Player of the Season - shared between Farhan Ahmed and Freddie McCann
Metro Banker of Year - Ben Slater
T20 Blast Player of the Year - Joe Clarke
Player of the Year 2024 - Haseeb Hameed

Toby was all line and length, pretty reliable but lacked that bite, was given very limited opportunities to show what he could do at a senior level.
Tom, likewise was starved of opportunity to show what he could do with either bat or ball in the first team. Often seen, last season on the practice wickets at lunch times at Trent Bridge.
Good luck to the pair

Pravda:
Nottinghamshire members and supporters will have the opportunity to bid farewell to Luke Fletcher on day three of the Vitality County Championship fixture against Warwickshire (Saturday 28 September).
A presentation will be made on the field 15 minutes ahead of the start of play (10.15am), with Luke also given the chance to say his goodbyes to spectators during an on-field interview.
Last week, it was confirmed that Fletcher would leave Trent Bridge at the end of the season, having amassed over 600 wickets in a 17-year career with Notts. Read more here...
The Bulwell-born seamer will miss this week's final fixture of the season through injury.
At lunch on day one, meanwhile (Thursday 26 September), a presentation will take place to mark the success of Nottinghamshire's Second XI in winning the Championship, with the shield presented on the field to members of the squad.

Sitting top of the table before this week's round of matches, in which Notts don't play, having already completed all fixtures. Northants play Worcestershire, effectively needing 21 points, to beat Notts' points per match average.

Rob Lord has signed a two year deal.
Mr Newell and Mr Moores just have to decide now about: Toby Pettman, James Hayes, Sammy King, Dane Schadendorf, Luke Fletcher, Tom Loten and Dane Paterson - all nearing the end of their current deals.

Congratulatons to Lyndon James who has received his County Cap this morning.
thought that would have happened a while ago?
ReplyDelete81 NOT OUT Well deserved Lyndon - a great prospect .
ReplyDeleteDoes it mean an immediate salary increase?
An okay player but no more. Proves management team will remain if contracts are being handed out. sadly.
ReplyDeleteI think Lord will be a good signing .
ReplyDeleteA fast bowler's nightmare is remaining fit, but he has all the attributes to be a good opening bowler who hits the deck in the range of 80-85mph.. No mug with the bat either. Still only 23 I believe.
Any chance Moores
ReplyDeleteDecisions being made about the future, so it looks as though Moores and Newell are staying put.
DeleteIndeed if new management were on the way then these decisions wouldn't have been made. It would seem more of the same for next season - which means more steady decline on the quality of cricket, amateurism in corporate negotiations over the hundred and the pavilion. And a Zimbabwe test....

ReplyDeleteFletch was a good , honest trier - a real old fashioned County pro. On blazing hot , airless days Fletch would keep pounding up and down delivering the goods , when others were exhausted and spent .
His batting talent seems to have deserted him in the past couple of years but was still capable of bowling a fair few tidy overs.
Think he fancies Bracegirdle,s job in the commentary box !?!?
Rumour still has Fletch signing into the Chaddesden Retirement Home in Derby.
DeleteEnormous appreciation deserved by big Fletch. A real county talent with endless good humour and commitment to the cause. A renaissance bowler in many ways. Team legend.
ReplyDelete81 NOT OUT
ReplyDeleteVery hard for Fletch to stay fit for another season. That massive aging frame on top of niggling recurring problems . With the runs drying up and the decreasing mobility on the field of play then would Derby think a one year contract be value for money . Batsmen can somehow struggle on for an extra bonus year but it’s much harder for bowlers to do the same .
Great news for the seconds.
ReplyDeleteWhat impact it will have will be interesting. Can players like Martindale, Loten, Schadendorf, King and Pettman “step up” (or better asked, can they be given a chance to ) to the firsts. Wasn’t so much opportunity this year

ReplyDeleteGet the cash while you can Alex!
You can only live on a reputation for so long . There are plenty of younger and hungrier young lads snapping at your heels.
Will we see Alex wearing a Notts ccc shirt next year ?
Reckon opinions are divided as to whether Notts should offer him some sort of Blast contract for 2025 . Its a while since Alex delivered for Notts ..Perhaps the Notts faithful have lost the faith?
Hales should be nowhere near a Notts T20 contract next season or ever again. Totally finished and offers nothing. Would sooner the club play young players already at the club.
ReplyDeleteAlex Hales and or his agent have Mick Newell under a spell, he's mesmorized and can't see beyond the Alex Hales of the eight years ago when he was a world beater. I've said it before on here, Alex Hales will do whatever Alex Hales wants and Mick Newell will fund it with the appropriate contract. It's not clear if Alex Hales wants to play for a county again.
DeleteThe performance of the academy has been the (only) highlight of the season. Many congratulations should go to Matt Wood, and also the NPL teams (Cavs and P&L) who have given Farhan and Freddie game time over recent years. We have all bemoaned the lack of home grown talent over the past decade or so, but hopefully this is a sign of things changing .

ReplyDelete“MORE” of the same in 2025
Moore and Moores!
Some folk at Notts ccc are apparently bomb proof and can confidently ride out any storm that blows up or deal with ongoing failures.
I can't even read anything moores senior spouts. The man needs to walk away. He won't because worryingly he does not see how poor he's become.
ReplyDeleteAs much as we want change I think our leaders will feel they are set up to succeed in the championship with
ReplyDeleteSlater, Hameed, McCann, Clarke
Haynes, new WK/Batsman, James
Harrison/Ahmed, Stone, Pennington, Tongue (Brett, Lord and Paterson to cover England call ups/injuries)
Doesn't achieve their stated aim of 40% of the team will be through the academy, but not a bad team
The problem then is that it is awful for the Blast, where most people engage with Notts cricket
Hope you enjoy watching them. May be very quite judging from lack of renewals
ReplyDeleteI for one very rarely renew before February and leave it until April in most years as I'd rather have the money in my bank account than in an account under control of the CEO.
DeleteI don't blame you for that. Puzzled why you would want to renew at all but we all have different views on that.
Delete81 NOT OUT
ReplyDeleteLet’s face it - Notts Membership prices for 2025 are really good value for money if you break the cost down to days/ games played . Even if the team are not performing as well as in previous years . The Pavilion being out of bounds for the whole of next season is a bit of a blow but there is no alternative . We are lucky to live close to one of the world’s most famous cricket grounds . So even with those same people running the Club it is cutting our own throats to boycott the place . Compared to other Counties ( and other sports) I think Notts Membership is still really good value.
I just think making a stand would be the honourable thing to do. I would not pay a penny towards moores snr wage. So no. Not good value at all.
ReplyDeleteWhy don't you write a letter to the Chairman or even the CEO and explain to them why you have chosen not to be a member in 2025.
DeleteOh yes! And get no reply just another membership form! Iv tried that. I do know they expect membership to be short by a third apparently
DeleteThat's because they have failed to get a meaningful Test Match for the second time in three years and an England T20 again in September. There's always a dip in membership numbers when the International offer is second rate. Diehard Notts supporters will renew as usual and with membership have the right to show their ire with the leadership of the club (on so many levels).

ReplyDeleteA couple of weeks ago I took my wife and a friend to a well known Bistro in Nottm. A nice meal with wine , starters and a couple of puddings . Nice food but nothing exceptional . The bill with 10% service charge came to £162
The price of Senior Membership at Notts ccc next year? A very reasonable £151.
So what’s better value and will give longer enjoyment and pleasure ?
No contest !
Notts win hands down .
Compared to many other things these days I repeat that Notts Membership is a bargain - regardless .
£151 - what does that buy you these days ?
Answer - not a lot !
If you have the time to go to games the notts membership represents great value on a per day basis. Talking about playing matters, Mr moores in the interview linked above, he was very coy on new signings. It is my opinion that we are still light on numbers with our cartel of pace options. Injuries and England call-ups could leave us with a very light-weight attack now we have lost in addition to Ball and Broad; Fletcher, Pettman, Paterson, Loten. If Stone, Tongue and pennington are not available because of injury or England duty, what are we left with? Injured in 2024 Hutton, rookie Lord, new signing McKerr, Hayes and James. It was interesting to hear moores talk-up Tommy Giles as the next new kid on the block, has anyone seen him in prolonged action, to be able to comment? Giles didn't get the England U19 call up this morning.

It's always up to the individual. I just have something inside that tells me Notts under present leadership is not where I want to spend my time. Value does not come into it. So because it's cheap the hierarchy can treat their customer base with such distaste? I grew up with values and pride. So no thank you
ReplyDelete81NOT OUT .
ReplyDeleteIt’s not all about value for money at Notts ccc regarding membership - although in this day and age it has to be a factor for many -especially the old uns!
If you have been used to going down to TB for many seasons , through thick and thin - then a summer without it can seem incomplete .I know . It’s happened to me twice because of illness . It’s probably the case that Moores Senior and Junior have taken advantage of the position at Notts during the past couple of years or so . But it’s not all negative . As we all know , Peter Moores talks a good fight and he has made good decisions in the past for Notts . He is looking a tired man and his time in the game is getting pretty limited .
But just because you don’t like the current management and its structure is a poor reason to stop being a Member !?
I'm told that to a section of the dressing room, young Peter is known as the Silver Fox.
DeleteI respect your view and everyone else's. Let all just agree to disagree. Some will renew others not - for their own reasons.
ReplyDeleteWhatever. Let everyone have a great summer and enjoy the cricket we decide to watch.

ReplyDeleteCome what may - we all hope that Notts have a satisfying and successful 2025 season . The Club needs it ! The Members need it ! The Sponsors need it ! The players need it ! The Management need it !
A good , all round campaign is overdue for Notts .
On paper , the side potentially looks a decent one - but there is so much to go wrong .
It’s the last chance saloon for one or two who will be out of contract in a few months time ?!
Well he is a Trent rocket keep your mates happy one would say
ReplyDeleteThis club gets worse
ReplyDeleteDoes he strengthen our T20 squad? In my opinion, yes he does. Brings a wealth of experience, bowls in the PP and at the death and can bat with impetus - all three facets Outlaws were poor at in 2024.
