Two lads with a big hammer could have made more progress, I heard said outside Dixon gates last night. |
Graeme Swann, Sue Storey and Andy Afford have been voted on to the GC by the members.
The Nominations Panel recommended a female solicitor for the police, Catherine Hammond.
For fans of Restaurant Six, Lisa's co-conspirator in that Grand Design or should it be Grand Delusion, the then Chair, Richard Tennant, who also was her partner in crime with the whole deception of the what is now called the H*ndred, has been rewarded by the General Committee by being honoured, made President of the club.
Whole evening was beyond redemption from it's self congratulating blandness, but dear old Bill Russell did some degree of salvaging the evening with just two words, "Lady Bay". Will the windfall payments, from those buying into H*ndred stakes, be used in anyway to improve facilities at Lady Bay?
The short answer was yes.
General Committee Election There are four vacancies on the General Committee this year; three will be elected by the membership and one will be appointed upon the recommendation of the Nominations Panel. Voting forms and details of the candidates standing for election have been circulated by post to members in adult categories who are eligible to vote. If you haven't received the postal mailing but you are eligible and wish to vote, please contact the club. The results of the election, together with the identity of the individual appointed by the Nominations Panel, will be announced at the AGM. Changes to the Constitution The General Committee have proposed a set of changes to the Constitution of the Club (known as ‘the Rules’). The changes concern:
proposals relating to the Nominations Panel, arising as a result of lessons learned during four years of running the panel; and other areas where changes in wording are proposed for consistency with the rest of the Rules, or to make their wording easier to understand and interpret. please go to the link that you were given in your own email and read the proposed amendments and to vote if you will not be going to the AGM in person or by Zoom. No double voting or standards at Trent Bridge ltd Please register your vote no later than 5pm on Friday 21 February if you're not going to the AGM. Nottsview comment: The first proposal of rule changes concerns the Chair sitting on the Nominations Panel and the wish to avoid that particular possible conflict of interest, as they put it: The General Committee propose to remove the requirement for the Chair to sit on the Panel by amending 6.3.1. This allows for greater flexibility when making Nominations Panel appointments (and appointments to other sub-committees). It was important, when the Panel was new, to have the Club Chair as a member especially as Richard Tennant, then our Chair, had led on the modernisation of our constitution and therefore understood the rationale behind and the purpose of the Nominations Panel. Now the Panel is well established and its raison d’etre well understood, we can change this requirement to an option. This will also assist in situations where the Chair is conflicted due to being up for re-election/ re-appointment. Just to remind you, the current Chair has only reached the General Committee via the Nominations Panel route and now currently sits on the Nominations Panel. It shouldn't take a genius to work out that that isn't how it ought to be. |
Talk about smoke & mirrors
ReplyDeleteI see the MCC route through there
Nominations process is voted on by there members from a short list of candidates put forward by the panel
This is a proper way to be transparent & getting the best candidate' not the Notts woke way of waiting to see who comes though the membership vote' so many excellent candidates have been passed by this very poor process
Why on earth do the members and members only vote on direct nominations to the general committee by direct voting via both routes , and each nominations stating they are applying via both routes unlike now
ReplyDeleteAs was our chairman’s route for re election who did not risk the members voting system and chose the nomination route where he was assured of being self selected by the top table ! As will another will this year be it an ex player or a committee member seeking election ! We can all predict those winners
ReplyDeleteI know one potential committee applicant who is excellent successful businessman, straight talking and life long Nottinghamshire CCC supporter, member and a regular at all matches at Trent bridge and who would put all members views to the committee and CEO but I sadly think he does not fit the top tables easy life ! Very sad
ReplyDeleteCertainly not a process that's fit for purpose I see the MCC nominations route
ReplyDeleteIs that they have a short list of candidates
& members choose who will be the successful candidate not like Notts with there woke agenda
again very embarrassing process having a two door policy' never mind that the chairman decided to take
The nominations route instead of putting himself up through the members route just like other years this as stopped many outstanding
Candidates from being successful in representing the club ' on another point
Who will be the new president of the club
Always somebody who given great service to the club as a player or benefactor / member this year could well be a surprise as this to as also been taken over by the nominations panel'
I wouldn't be surprised to see
Nutts the squirrel get the honour as the new president 🤣
Surely not 😳
DeleteCan the squirrel nod to anything the CEO says without its head falling off? If so then it gets the job!
DeleteIf certainly seems from within Trent Bridge one woman controls everything 😳 members club and democracy 🤔
DeleteThe great MAN-ipulator
Delete81NOT OUT
ReplyDeleteMore “ spin” from Notts cccHQ than even in the heady days of Blair’s propaganda chief Alistair Campbell !
Spoiler Alert - thank you for your efforts Stuart.
ReplyDeleteHi Everyone.
ReplyDeleteJust a very quick message to thank the 173 members who took there time and trust to vote for me for the general Cricket committee.
I always thought with 3 well known cricketers backed by committee members and ex committee members it was a difficult task plus one committee member standing again.
As disappointing as it is not to be elected to finish mid table was very encouraging but I genuinely thought I had more to offer than ex cricketers and others on the ballot paper .
But we live in a democracy and I wish all the new . re-elected and from the nomination panel every success .
Once again thank you all who voted for me.
Kind Regards
Stuart Matthews 🏏
Stuart. There is no honour in being associated with Notts ccc nowdays. But I admire you for trying. Your better off out of it.
ReplyDeleteVery bland AGM last night. They had clearly spent a long time with PR professionals putting together their presentations, and it seems everything is going to plan, with the growth of the woman's team, the pavilion, and the Hundred. When asked why haven't you communicated more about the the Pavillion and the Hundred like you said you would, the answer was I had to be prudent. Hoping to have the Pavillion ready for early summer 2026, so any delays and that will be two summers without the building. Unable to discuss whether in future more of the Hundred will be sold. Deficit planned for 2025, but didn't say how much. All light and roses, their PR company should get a bonus
ReplyDeleteAnd that's it. No further real communication or consultation with members till the next PR based AGM.
ReplyDeleteGive me and fellow ex members local cricket anytime. Renews? No mention. Not surprised.
So two ex-players and a lady who is "passionate about the Hundred" then. What does all this mean? Is it good or bad news?
ReplyDeleteWell it' not fantastic, Fantastic. Neither of the ex players could manage to attend the evening, even when knowing they'd won the vote. How many meetings on a wet and windy Thursday will they manage to talk about Lord knows what trivia, one wonders. It doesn't bode well. Graeme Swann the next Chair???? They're daft enough and members voted for him, so he'll be popular(????).
DeleteIf anyone has the numbers of votes for each candidate please could they post them. My apologies for not being there to thank those who voted for me and encouraged me, but I was in A&E with my 97 yo mother who had fallen down the stairs. She's just bruised, I'm glad to say.
ReplyDeleteAndy Afford 635
DeleteGraeme Swann 595
Sue Storey 515
Nick Evans 425
Usman Afzaal 405
Sarah Parkinson 298
Stuart Matthews 173
Steve Battlemuch 116
Jess Maguire 91
The number of votes cast for Richard Reed was never announced
Thanks Mike
DeleteRichard Reid 41 to complete the picture
DeleteI missed the first part of the so called AGM on zoom due an unfortunate accident but did anyone see the club membership numbers and was any mention made of them.
ReplyDeleteThank you in anticipation
Not that I heard. We were subjected to death 😳 by bar graph but there wasn't a chart of membership numbers year on year unfortunately😳
DeletePage 51 of the accounts list the total number of members. The numbers went up from 5605 in 2023 to 6028 in 2024
DeleteTurn out for the GC election was worse than for local government elections, always is, but why if these people care about the club? Does the voting need to go electronic now so folk can instantly vote on their phones?
Delete6028 members, yet the winning candidate only gets 10% (and me and others even less). One of my targets for this year is to increase turn-out for next year. Suggestions welcome. Electronic voting may be one.
DeleteNick the turn out is higher than 10 percent, remember junior members cannot vote. However no matter which way you look at it the turn out is and remains poor. Many members only join for the Test and have no real interest in Notts CCC
Delete81 NOT OUT
ReplyDeleteSeems to be Much ado about Nothing !
Everyone seems to get an easy ride these days .
What happened to all the angry young men ? Can’t folk be bothered these days to get involved and seriously question the Powers that be? Everything seems to be smoke and mirrors these days involving the politburo . Straightforward questions appear not to get straightforward answers!
Maybe the "angry young men" aren't members anymore so wouldn't have been able to vote or attend last night. Apathy is starting to rule though.
DeleteI fear that that is the where some people are steering supporters, by design. They want repeat ticket purchasers not members ultimately. I've recently heard two statements from different R*cket "supporters", (one was at the AGM) both were unhappy about the ticket buying process. That, it appears is the only thing that bothers them.
DeleteI tried, and will try again. I'm angry but definitley not young!!
DeleteUnfortunately, there were no young men, angry or not, there last night. I would estimate around 150-170 there and the average age probably 60-65. Then agree very much a smoke and mirrors job with, the Blaze being mentioned at least five times, Luke fletcher at least three times, and McCann the same, so very much about transition, and only a couple of sentences from Newell admitting how badly the Mens team had played. Even the question about the future of the museum was not really answered, just a general comment that we will spread the memorabilila around the new pavilion
ReplyDeleteADMIN NOTE: Does Nottsview need to restrict comments to those using accounts recognised by Google as there are too many confusing Anonymous threads going on simitaneously? If you've got something valid to say, put your name to it! Currently, some comments have bypassed the signed-in users URL option by filling the field with random stuff and have then ignored the password field, which works well as far I'm concerned but more need to use that option. A gold star for Kevin and Mike in this thread for example. What do others think? I will be asking again in a post of its own perhaps before the season starts to set some ground rules, as it were. Dave
ReplyDeleteGoing back to the AGM this week and in particular the new pavilion development which we were shown basically just a front and back view mick up images with no internal mock photos of anything from changing rooms , hospitality areas . Long room etc surely these are standard items in the planning approval documents!
ReplyDeleteThen we learn we have what £6 million in the bank etc ! We owe £4.8 million to the local councils .
There was a brief mention of the builders contracted but I have failed to locate them and no explanation was made if there experience in this area .
Then there was no mention of the contract value with contingencies!
A project Over 2 years with prices rising months and when Lisa was asked she briefly mentioned when asked what money we will receive from the 100 and when will we receive it plus do we need it for the pavilion costs !
I hope not but as A MEMBERS CLUB We deserve and should be told these figures they are not confidential as Lisa likes to say , I can honestly see as a businessman financial troubles without the 100 money plus help from the ECB or further bank loans
Just my view From
Stuart Matthews
It was all kept very vague and they swiftly moved on as though we didn't need to know.
DeleteAs she seemed quite ill I didn't ask the question at the AGM but followed up with an email to Lisa asking about Executive membership and the Executive lounge for 2026. I go a very nicely worded reply from Michael Temple basically saying it was too early in the process and that they are still looking at options for the allocation of rooms. Really dont buy that, as in the planning there would have to be structure in place to support a supporters lounge, like bars, seating, food prep, so my take is no Executive membership going forward. .
ReplyDeleteI think for most supporters the lack of planning for a museum was the greater concern at the AGM. Perhaps phase 2 with an Executive Suite in the new squash court area will be provided.
DeleteI've duplicated this comment on to a fresher post about membership.
