19/06

UNDER-PAR OUTLAWS EASILY BEATEN

Leicestershire cantered to a comfortable 4 wicket victory with 14 balls to spare at a warm Grace Road last night.

In spite of the perfect weather, a poor crowd were in attendance. Leicestershire won the toss and elected to bowl on the same pitch that the Foxes defeated Worcestershire by six wickets on Sunday. It meant Notts had to bat first for the first time in the 2025 Blast.

Van Beek (Pavilion End) conceded three singles off his opening over. Clarke hit Mike's opening delivery for six over extra cover. A wide and a no ball followed, Clarke hitting the free hit for a straight boundary. The fifth ball was hit by Clarke to the long leg ropes, 17 off the 2nd over. Clarke lapped Wood for 4 with the next delivery going to the extra cover ropes. Clarke (24) was caught at backward square by the diving Scriven off Wood (2 0 21 1), the decision going for third umpire adjudication, 29 for 1 in the 3rd over. Haynes (1) edged Mike into Cox's gloves (30 for 2). James found the ropes off three successive deliveries (two through mid-wicket and one through backward point), 13 off the 4th over. McCann hit Wood for six over mid-wicket and then for four through long leg, 11 plus a leg bye off the 5th over. McCann hit van Beek for six over long on. Notts 64 for 2 after 6 overs.

McCann (17) charged Rehan Ahmed and was stumped by Cox (65 for 3), three off the 7th over. Trevaskis conceded six singles from the 8th over. James cut Rehan for 4 through point, seven off the 9th over. Moores (10) smashed Scriven to the backward point ropes but fell off Scriven's next ball caught at deep mid-wicket by van Beek (84 for 4). Seven off the 10th over.

Trevaskis (3 0 18 0) went for four singles in the 11th over. Montgomery was dropped on 3 by Kimber at extra cover off Scriven. James (30) going for a quick offside single was sent back by non-striker Montgomery and failed to beat Scriven's throw (92 for 5), two off the 12th over. Sams and Montgomery added an innings high 47 in 4.1 overs to give Notts fans faint hope. However Notts collapsed spectacularly losing their last 5 wickets for 17 runs in 24 balls.

Sams hit Rehan for a straight six and two balls later a six from Sams over mid-wicket brought up the Notts 100. Sams hit the fifth delivery for 4 through backward point, 16 off the 13th over. Montgomery hit Mike for six over point and the next delivery for four through extra cover. Notts 123 for 5 off 14 overs.

Montgomery reverse swept Trevaskis for four through third man, eight off the 15th over. Sams hit Scriven for six over square leg. Then the Notts innings folded a miserable fashion. Montgomery (23) skied Scriven (3 0 18 2) to the backward point ropes with van Beek taking the catch (139 for 6), nine off the 16th over. Patterson-White (2) was caught at wide long off by Mike off Rehan (142 for 7). Rehan (4 0 32 2) conceded six off his last over. Sams (28) was caught by Cox off van Beek (147 for 8). Three off the 18th over. Mike (4 0 49 1) conceded six off the 19th over. Harrison (9) was caught at extra cover by Budinger off van Beek (156 for 9). Pennington played on to his stumps and departed for a golden duck. Notts 156 all out off 19.3 overs with van Beek having figures of 3 for 15 off 3.3 overs. The feeble final total looked at least 30 runs under par.

Budinger hit Pennington (Pavilion End) to the point ropes and two balls later for four through square leg, 10 off the opening over. Farhan went for seven off the 2nd over. Budinger (22) lofted Sams for four over extra cover and the next delivery went for four through mid-wicket. He fell next ball to a highlight reel catch by Harrison at mid-wicket leaping high to his right (25 for 1). The sole highlight from a Notts perspective on a miserable evening for the Outlaws. Rishi Patel hit the last delivery of the over for four through backward point, 13 off the 3rd over. Patel top edged Montgomery, Pennington taking the skier at short fine leg (31 for 2). Two runs off the 4th over. Masood found the fine leg ropes twice off Pennington's second over. Masood hit the final delivery to the mid-wicket boundary, 13 of the 5th over. Rehan hit Sams to the long on boundary, five off the 6th over. Leicestershire 50 for 2 off 6 overs.

Rehan hit Patterson-White for four through backward square leg; 10 off the 7th over. Masood hit Farhan (2 0 17 0) for six over mid-wicket, 10 off the 8th over. Masood (27) was bowled middle stump attempting a sweep shot off Harrison (70 for 3), six off the 9th over. Leicestershire though stormed to victory with Rehan and Kimber adding 69 in 6.3 overs against unthreatening Notts bowling. Rehan having a fine game; following his 2-32 in scoring 52 (off 37 balls with 6x4, 2x6). He hit Patterson-White for a straight six and then for four through wide third man. Leicestershire 89 for 3 off 10 overs. The Foxes victory now a formality.

Kimber, one of four Foxes players who learnt their cricket at Trent Bridge – Budinger, Rehan and Mike the others, hit Harrison for six over mid-wicket and then reverse swept him for four; 12 off the 11th over. Kimber hit Sams (3 0 23 1) to the extra cover boundary, five off the 12th over. Kimber hit Harrison for successive sixes over mid-wicket and over long on to bring up the 50 partnership off 26 balls, 16 off the 13th over. Rehan edged Pennington (3 0 34 0) for four and then hit him for four through extra cover, 11 off the 14th over. Rehan hit Patterson-White for four through extra cover. Foxes skipper Kimber (35 off 15 balls, 2x4, 3x6) skied Patterson-White into orbit Harrison running in from long on took the catch (139 for 4).

Rehan reached his 50 off 35 balls with a six over long on off Harrison (4 0 42 2) then holed out attempting the same shot caught by James at long on (147 for 5). Patterson-White (4 0 36 1) conceded eight off the 17th over - van Beek heaving him for four through mid-on. Cox (3) was caught on the square leg ropes off Montgomery with the scores level – a third catch of the innings for Harrison. Two balls later, Mike hit Montgomery (1.4 0 7 2) for four through square leg. Leicestershire 160 for 6 off 17.4 overs with van Beek on 7 and Mike on 4.

Notts now are 7th in the table needing an unlikely five wins from the last six matches. Only at Derby have they got their batting and bowling firing simultaneously. They seem a team lacking in confidence with too many bits and pieces players with the two overseas positions not being adequately filled. A second consecutive T20 wooden spoon a distinct possibility.  MAG

Rehan  v Farhan the headline billing?

BTW if you haven't done it yet, please complete the supporters survey now or when you have five minutes to spare  here

It's just so supporters can present the Chair/CEO with evidence of what supporters would like to see from a schedule review, rather than the club use answers to loaded questions that the club had us fill in, when it comes to ignoring us!

16/06

We're at halfway in this year's T20 Blast, or at least Outlaws are, having played 7/14 games, yet the mid-tournament break is in another couple games time.

So far we've had, if not a wide spectrum of performances, we've had some battling displays, some dire luckwarm attempts and one red hot display at Edgbaston the last time out.

Unfortunately we can't play Warwickshire Birmingham Bears everytime, so next up we have the unglamorous Foxes, who on their own turf are a fairly organised group. Will they be organised enough to confound the Silver Fox? Will the talismanic Farhan Ahmed play (against his brother)?

Which Outlaws will get on the bus on Thursday?
