Outlaws v Carnegie 2012

Outlaws thrashed by Tykes

A woeful performance got its just desserts as Yorkshire cruised to a six wicket victory with 14 balls unused at TB last night.
The night got off to a bad start with Hales declared unfit. Putting Gurney, White and Carter in the same line up was wrought with danger, as Notts missed a trick by not selecting Elstone.
Voges won the toss again and elected to bat. The tone of the night was set off the first first ball as Wessels hit a long hop from spinner Root straight to mid-wicket, 0 for one.
Only two runs came off the first two overs, and although over 3 from Wardlaw went for 16, Notts never broke the shackles all night on the same pitch used for the Lancashire farce two days earlier. Lumb slightly off colour on the night fell in the sixth over top edging Pyrah’s first ball to depart for an 18-ball 20, 38 for two.  Patel (5) did not last long become losing his wicket to the impressive Rafiq. When Taylor (15) was bowled off his pads by Ashraf, Notts were 87 for four with just 39 balls left. Voges dropped anchor and nudged and nurdled but slogging will never be his game and his eventual 70 off 57 balls contained only five boundaries. Read became Rafiq’s second victim holing out for 14. Starc (4-0-21-1) who has bowled well all three times I have seen him this season bowled Voges in the last over as Mullaney (12*) and White (4*) took Notts to a slightly below par 148 for six.

Notts still had a chance but the bizarre decision to bowl White first up proved disastrous as first over went for 13 with Lyth tucking up to the buffet.  Yorkshire raced to 48 in the seventh over until Lyth fell for 21-ball 33, Mullaney being the lucky bowler. Over 10, went for 19 as Carter who seems to suffering from delusions of grandeur spent the rest of the night grazing. Andre Adams should now return to the line up to replace the Lincolnshire tweeter. Root biffed a rapid 27 before Patel picked up his solitary wicket. With Swann reporting an elbow injury the slow left armer seems the obvious replacement in the England line up which means he will miss the remaining two games. Yorkshire with a plethora of left handers had no trouble getting the remaining runs despite a minor blip of losing Bairstow (1) stumped off White and South African Miller (3) holing to Voges in successive overs. Jacques playing the Voges role got the man of the match to finish on undefeated 58 off 47 balls and was well supported by Zimbabwean Ballance who hit successive sixes off White to finish the match as the 6,000 crowd enjoying a rare dry night went home unhappy. Two easy catches were also grassed in the field and some of the ground fielding was also of dubious quality on a bad night for the home side
White (3.4-0-39-1) despite his mauling will have to keep his place as the spin option. Let’s hope Hales recovers of his thigh injury and the early morning heavy rain clears before tonight’s crucial game in Derby.
