What's your Mick Newell XI?

Love him or want him gone, Mick Newell has been in position of Director of Cricket at Nottinghamshire since 2002. Over those years Mick has signed many players. Some have been successful signings, others haven't lived up to billing.

Here is an eleven: The Mick Newell Frustrating Eleven

Neil Edwards
Will Jefferson
Matt Wood
Greg Smith
Brendan Taylor (Wicketkeeper and Captain) - frustratingly has the ability but isn't producing the goods.
Will Gidman
Ben Phillips
Simon Francis
Jackson Bird (Overseas)
Rob Ferley
Jason Brown

Who would you select?

    1. For Outlaws in the one day stuff he wasn't that bad and at least he would value his own wicket in the Championship. As a wicket taking bowler, he was pants (for Notts).

  3. Anurag Singh, Russell Warren, David Alleyne, Ajmal Shahzad, Graeme White and don't forget Scott Newman on loan from Surrey. The list of "great" signings is seemingly endless

  4. How about a list of classic Mick decisions to let players go? I'll start with Gallian, Sidebottom, and Foottit, surely there must be more? Let's hope Tom Moores is not added to this list

    1. Tom Moores does appear to be a real prospect. Only a fool would voluntarily let him go to another county unless he believes Notts possess an even better prospect already - Tom Keast? Mick should recall Moores and having playing against Hampshire as a batsman.

  5. I think that while nobody can doubt Desperate Dan's ability with the bat, his T20 bowling figures deserve a wider audience.

    1. Yes he seems to like to bowl himself in over 5 or 6 and gets punished more often than not.
