Day 2

Lancashire are relegated in spite of Notts doing their damnest to get relegated themselves.

Lancashire failed to reach their minimum target of 300 runs, dropping 3 points in the process. Lancashire will probably go on to win their game; Notts look set to lose their game after a shambolic first innings batting display on a pointless day for the green and gold who let 6 bonus points slip away today, leaving Lancashire only relegated by virtue of winning less matches than Notts, level on points.

Day 1

Lancshire did what they had to do at Southampton, bowling the hosts out before tea. They then followed it but with fairly steady reply 123-4 at stumps, the fourth wicket only being Nightwatchman Parry. 3/24 points secured.

Notts, on a flat deck bagged 2 bonus bowling points after losing the toss on a very bright batting day. 2/5 points secured.

So Lancashire must now at least score 300 to remain on course to pip Notts, if Notts go belly-up from here-on in.

The Race for Seventh or the Race for Sixth or Fifth?

Notts are in the thick of the race to avoid the drop; currently in sixth and needing "just" five points to stop maths and an improbable Lancashire maximum points win away at Hampshire. In all probability Notts will have accrued a couple or so bonus points and Lancashire will have dropped some by the end of day two (Tuesday), to account for those five points and then we can all breathe again.

A Worcestershire win against Yorkshire could see them finishing seventh if Lancashire struggle for points; with that and a Notts win, then Notts might finish fifth*.

Surrey and Essex apart, the whole division appears to have lost the plot now, who will finish the strongest or at least the least badly?
