PM in the Notts County, sorry I mean Nottm Post, was commenting Tuesday night and quite rightly said the players have to come in with a focus on how they are going to play as they are playing for personal pride and the team. I hope it was a huge wake up call to him with some of the players then. Also he states we have been extremely competitive in white ball -REALLY?- getting to two qtrs is a decent effort, but, has he forgotten we were completely THRASHED in both of them ? Having said said he is an outstanding domestic coach and we are lucky to have him at Notts. The problem with Notts is they are a reactive and not a proactive club. Two white ball trophies and promotion in one season should be a position of strength to go forward. If we couldn't land our desired targets, bring a couple of Kolpak players in to help us short term. That's what the DoC gets paid to do, that's HIS job. Instead we muddled through with a hopelessly small squad and have just got away with it by 27runs and a point deduction. So an average season to me. Having said that, we have now landed our targets and should be more competitive next season. It would be nice if we could strengthen further still, an opening batsman and an overseas bowler of repute wouldn't go down too badly for most supporters
ReplyDeleteAs a Notts member who does not watch T20 and did not travel to Welbeck, I've seen one win all season. A bad year for me, not placated by being told to remember the last 18 months.
ReplyDeleteEDIT: Sorry,I'm confusing the toss column in the stats for the result. I personally was absent for a couple of the ODI wins, but still a bad year for me.
DeleteIt's not that we lost so many games that erks so much, it's the nature of those defeats where the players on the face of it just give up, don't even bother trying to fightback, and wave a white flag in surrender. That's not in the spirit of the game.
DeleteYES! I completely agree BIG Dave G, we can all accept losing to better sides but to meekly capitulate with no fight is totally unacceptable to us loyal Notts members. On a different point, a very well done for these brilliant factual reports of info by the Nottsview team(keep it coming Harry, Mag's and Jag's)
DeleteSince James Pattinson went home hasn't been great, T20 in 2017 apart and even that was scrappy at times.
ReplyDeleteCheck out those stats on a later page
DeleteSpecsavers Championship Player of the Season 2018 – Luke Fletcher
ReplyDeleteRoyal London One Day Cup Player of the Season 2018 – Steve Mullaney
Vitality Blast T20 Player of the Season 2018 – Harry Gurney
Academy Player of the Season 2018 - Lyndon James
Uncapped Player of the Season 2018 - Tom Moores
Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club Player of the Season 2018 – Tom Moores
Thats EXACTLY why we only stayed up by the skin of our teeth, and were abysmaly thrashed in both qtr finals. Having said that, Moores is a terrific prospect provided he can improve his keeping and Fletch will, at least, always give 100percent, who will be effective in the first half of the championship campaign, but, they're pretty average stats to be overall red ball player of the season ? Or am I being a bit too harsh?
