Notts travel again to the island in May 2019

Notts have at trip to the Isle of Wight in May 2019 as they play the inaugural first-class fixture at the Newclose Ground, near Newport to face opponents Hampshire in a 4-day championship game. However this is not Notts first trip to the Isle of Wight as in June 1957 they faced Hampshire at the J.Samuel White ground, now the Isle of Wight Community Club ground in Cowes. In a rain hit affair Notts lost by 80 runs with Hampshire legend Derek Shackleton having match figures of 13 for 135  Details of the match are given below. In the Hampshire first innings Roy Marshall and Henry Horton added 123 for the second wicket. Similarly there was a second wicket stand of 122 in the Nottinghamshire first innings between John Clay and Ron Giles as Notts trailed by 27 runs after the first innings. Hampshire then clubbed 167 in 44 overs, setting Notts 195 runs to win but they fell well short as the medium pace of Shackleton was too good for them for the second time in the match.

Apparently MAGs rumours abound that Hampshire released this fixture early to their supporters so a lot of the Hotels/B&Bs were already booked up prior to them being released by the ECB.
