Afridi will join up with the Northants squad in time for their opening T20 Blast fixture away to Durham on 15 May, and will remain for games against the Birmingham Bears, Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Worcestershire and Nottinghamshire.

Club statement:

Northants Cricket would like to thank our members for turning out in the cold last night to attend the EGM.

The EGM was called to vote on four possible resolutions to help the club raise necessary income to keep the club secure and protect its future.
The proceedings were overseen by Lord Naseby, Club President, and an informative financial presentation was made by Tim Robinson. Following a lively debate our members voted and all four resolutions were passed.

Ray Payne, Chief Executive said ‘The Board is delighted with the continued support shown to the club by its members.  We are looking at all possible options and we will look to make the right decisions to secure a prosperous future for the club.’

Directors put the want into Wantage Road
05/01/15

Northamptonshire have called a Emergency Members' Meeting on 22nd January with a view to tackling the club's current financial predicament.

It would appear that the club has lost a significant level of income from the ECB following Graeme Swann's retirement, Swann having started his career at Wantage Road, before honing his skills in readiness for Test cricket at Trent Bridge and this loss has tipped the balance.

A financial plan based on one player's fitness/career is somewhat foolhardy in the my view but the directors of the club, those possibly responsible for the mess, have the following proposals for members:

  • That the club proceeds with the sale of the County Tavern pub, which is located next to the ground
  • That the club proceeds with the sale of a residential property on Adnitt Road, near the ground
  • That directors are given permission to provide loans to the club
  • That the club will investigate the possibility of a bond scheme

No announcement has been made on social media as yet.

Whitticase left out in the cold

Whitticase gets the knife in the back

After being effectively made redundant (officially), though a change of job description / title doesn't change the actual role fulfilled by an individual and therefore it is this writer's own view, he was sacked after long service at the county, Phil Whitticase has now been told that there will be no place for him at Leicestershire in any capacity.

England in Sri Lanka

16/12/14

England tailed-off a dismal tour with another Dilshan inspired crushing defeat. Another century and 3 wickets saw the 38 year grab Man of the Match and Man of the Series in the 87 run defeat for England.

All 3 Outlaws played but the Colombo wicket clearly suited the host's bowlers more than England's crop of pacier armed bowlers - perhaps Root was under-exposed (5 overs) but a target of over 300 proved to be much too many for any hope of an entertaining chase.

2015 Season Hors d'oeuvres

Nottinghamshire's pre-season warm-ups start with the traditional annual visit to Barbados; but once back in dear old Blighty, two two day friendlies have been arranged for Trent Bridge against perennial warm-up foes Northants and against Derbyshire
