YOUNGSTERS DAS and THAIN GIVE WILTING NOTTS A BATTING LESSON AT SCORCHING HOT TRENT BRIDGE
A large crowd gathered taking advantage of reduced admission for “Family Fun Day”, Montgomery returned with Hutton rested. Very disappointedly Sammy King was allowed to go off to play for Norfolk instead of taking his place in the first eleven. A short-sighted decision in the extreme.
Notts broke up the opening partnership, promoting Jack Haynes to open. Another baffling decision perhaps we thought inspired by having left hand/right hand openers but this theory was destroyed when McCann appeared at three. The gamble misfired with Haynes struggling with a 17-ball 31 with Notts slow out of the blocks after Porter (Pavilion End) and Snater had opened the bowling. Haynes departed in the 9th over was caught behind by Fernandes off Porter, 40 for 1. The last over of the powerplay bowled by Snater was a maiden, Notts 41 for 1 off 10 overs.
McCann joined Slater in the middle and they added 56 in 11.2 overs before Notts lost two wickets in three balls to 20-year-old right arm seamer Jamal Richards. Ben Alison replaced Snater for the 12th over. Notts reached 50 via lofted four through mid by Slater. Skipper Westley brought himself on for the 13th over. McCann hit Westley for two boundaries in the 15th over which went for 11. The 50 partnership between Slater and McCann was brought up via six over mid-wicket by Slater off Allison in the 18th over. Khushi replaced Westley for the 19th over. Richards removed Slater (47) and Hameed with his third and fifth deliveries of his opening over. Slater (47 off 56 balls, 4x4, 1x6) was caught by Khushi at backward point and then Hameed had his off stump removed to depart for a two-ball duck; Notts 96 for 3 in the 20th over. Notts never recovered from this double blow.
The Notts 100 came up in the 21st over via a cover driven boundary by Montgomery off Khushi; 11 off the 21st over. Porter returned for the 23rd over. McCann (33) was getting tied down and flashed at Richards and edged to Fernandes who took the catch, 123 for 4 in the 26th over. Moores hit Richards for consecutive fours in the 28th over. Westley replaced Richards for the 30th over with Moores hitting him for six over square leg. Notts 149 for 4 off 30 overs.
Porter (10 0 39 1) made way for Noah Thain (2-0-6-0) for the 31st over. Moores (33 off 28 balls, 4x4, 2x6) hit Westley for a four through long off and for a six over mid-wicket. But next ball trying to repeat the shot he was caught on the mid-wicket ropes by Thain off the off spinner, 163 for 5 in the 32nd over. Moores for the umpteenth time in this year’s 50-over competition had literally thrown his wicket way trying smash every ball out of the ground. Moores the so-called “leader of the pack” had departed with 18 overs still to bowl, another howler from the coach's son on Family Fun Day.
Moments later it got worse, Montgomery reverse swept Westley (6-0-47-1) to Das at short third man. James (3) going for impossible single charged down the pitch and was sent back but was well short when Westley ran him out following Das; 168 for 6 in the 34th over. Two awful bits of cricket ten minutes apart. Notts well and truly digging their own graves.
Allison and Snater returned for the 35th and 36th overs respectively. In the 38th over, Snater rearranged Patterson-White's (12) stumps; 187 for 7. Richards returned for the 40th over and despite not conceding any runs off the bat, conceded two wides and had Harrison (1) caught at backward point by Khushi; 193 for 8 off 40 overs. Montgomery was now caught between the devil and the deep blue sea with no batsmen left!
Snater returned for the 43rd over and a quick single for Lord saw Notts to 200. Richards conceded two singles in the 44th over. Allison bowled the 45th over. Lord lofting him for four over square leg but Lord (8) was lbw to very next delivery, 209 for 9. Montgomery reached his 50 off 66 balls with a single off Snater (9-1-37-1). The 46th over going for seven including two wides and a no ball. Allison (10 0 43 1) went for two singles off his last over. Montgomery (52 off 72 balls; 2x4) was the last man to fall caught at deep point by Allison off Richards. Notts 218 all out off 47.2 overs with Fletcher 3 not out. Richards with a List A Best of 8.2-1-31-5. Although the wicket had lost some pace compared to Friday the score was woefully short of being competitive. A very disappointing and lack lustre batting effort.
Fletcher (Radcliffe Road End) and Fletcher opened the bowling. In the 4th over, Benkenstein (4) pulled a short ball from Lord and was caught right on the square leg ropes by Haynes performing some gymnastics to take the catch cleanly; 15 for 1. Westley hit three fours in four balls off Fletcher; 13 off the 5th over. Westley (14) was bowled by a delivery that kept low from Lord, 29 for 2 in the sixth over. From this point the game slowly drifted away from Notts. After 4 overs for 26 Fletcher was replaced by Patterson-White. Essex 48 for 2 off 10 overs.
After an impressive opening spell of 5 1 21 2, Lord made way for James who bowled a four-over spell for 19. Harrison came on from the Pavilion End for the 20th over. The two Essex youngsters were playing the situation superbly, with no run rate pressure, they could chug along taking a low-risk approach. After seven overs for 22 Patterson-White was replaced by Fletcher (5-0-32-0) who bowled a single over spell and was never bowled again. A four and single for Das bringing up the three figures. Lord went for five singles when he returned for over number 24. Harrison switched ends. Essex 110 for 2 off 25 overs, by this stage Notts almost mute in the field waiting for the defeat to happen. Not a good state of affairs.
Das got to his 50 off 72 balls with a single off McCann who was introduced for the 26th over. Thain hit Harrison for 6 over wicket the hundred partnership taking 142 balls, 11 off the 29th over. Thain got to his 50 off 76 balls with a reverse swept boundary off McCann. Thain had a let off on 54 when he hit McCann to Haynes on the deep square leg ropes. Haynes lost the ball in the sun and a potential catch was missed with the ball going for four. Thain was dropped on 58, a chance behind the stumps by Moores off McCann. Moores kept untidily throughout in a performance way below what is expected from a professional stumper. A penny for the thoughts of young Schadendorf. Thain reverse swept McCann for six over point; 10 off the 36th over. Patterson-White bowled a legside delivery that went for five wides in the 37th over. Das hit McCann (7-1-37-0) for successive boundaries, 10 off the 38th over. Das smashed Patterson-White for six over mid-wicket to bring up the 150 partnership of 203 balls. Essex 186 for 2 off 40 overs.
Thain hit Patterson-White (10 0 43 0) for six over wide long on, nine off his last over. Lord (8-1-42-2) went for 14 in the 42nd over including two boundaries. In the closing stages, Thain fell lbw to Harrison (9-0-33-1); 214 for 3 in the 43rd over. Harrison’s bowling far better today than his rusty efforts on Friday. Browne defended his only ball to ensure, Das then on 95 got to his 100. The game was now more like a Sunday benefit game, Slater (0.3-0-5-0) was summoned, Das hitting him for a straight four. A dot ball followed. At 17:47 the third ball was hit for a legside single with Essex (219 for 3 off 43.3 overs) getting home in a very comfortable fashion. Notts fielding sloppy throughout normally a indicator of sub-optimal dressing room harmony.
With seven wins from 30 games and only two of those at Trent Bridge, Notts season has been one long struggle with poor team selection a recurrent and worrying theme. They currently lie sixth in the Group B 50 over table with only pride to play for as they head to Rugby for their final white ball clash of the season. MAG
You know I really tried to get up for this one. Nice weather cheap admission. But just seeing same old players plodding along a clown behind the sticks and woeful bowling. Just want the season to end and a manageral and player clear out.
ReplyDelete81 GET OUT
ReplyDeleteOH YE OF LITTLE FAITH !
Notts will pulverize Essex tomorrow - no problem !
That didn't age well did it!
DeleteBefore the inquest begins let's give credit where due. The Essex bowler Jamal Richards is the best prospect I've seen in years.Dont think Hasseb even saw that ball.
ReplyDelete81 NOT OUT
ReplyDeleteYES - it was indeed a cracking delivery . Haseeb beaten all ends up
Trent Bridge only half full today . That’s a bit of a worry .
We had tremendous weather
Kids admitted for £1
Adults admitted for £6
Loads of entertainment on offer around the ground .
If you can’t fill the ground today then you never will?
Agree with all of that except it was more like a quarter full, or even less
ReplyDeleteYes Richards was different class, and looked pretty sharp as well. Overall on a day when we get lots of new people into the ground the batting was really tepid, bad shots, poor run out, getting in and then getting out and an inability to get the ball away... very poor
ReplyDeleteanybody know if Notts publish attendance figures?
ReplyDelete7K according to Pravda
DeleteFolks won't come if they know it's rubbish - no matter what the price
ReplyDeleteWe are again being thrashed by a 2nd string. We have lost little to the Hundred player wise.
ReplyDeleteAnother non event season for poor old Notts supporters.
ReplyDeleteManagement is as stale as an old pork pie .What do the committee talk about, as it appears that performance on the field is never on the agenda
Good news, the next Members' Forum is at the end of this month, Day 1 v Surrey but it hasn't been announced as yet, so don't tell anyone.
DeleteIt is incredible to state that Notts have won more One Day Cup and T20 games at Welbeck (2 from 2) than they have at Trent Bridge this season.
ReplyDelete1 win (against Derbyshire) in 9 T20 and One Day Cup games at Trent Bridge.
After encouraging performances at Welbeck and Guildford, the same old rubbish returns to Trent Bridge.
People would rather go to the seaside, have a BBQ in the garden, or watch the Olympics, than have to endure yet another woeful Notts performance.
The seaside was a fine choice today, after watching the pathetic Sunday Thirds effort in the field against Gloucestershire on Friday.
Tom Moores bossing the captain about. Whats that all about? This role model nonsense has gone to his head.
ReplyDeleteRole model on bad Wicketkeeping?
ReplyDeleteDon't try this at home, or at least not how I do it
DeleteFateh Singh doing pretty well at Worcester - we could do with such a player.
ReplyDeleteSchadendorf will be the next one to go - no chance of getting in above the coaches son, as wicketkeeper, despite not so young Tom actually getting worse.
Massive cricketing changes needed with the coaching staff, but all looked rather cosy on Friday lunchtime between them all....., so that ain't going to happen.
Imagine if a football team was playing this pathetically - there would be a new manager.
A very sad state of affairs again a very poor all round performance poor bowling shocking fielding clueless batting not forgetting the dismal tactics this is Nottinghamshire ccc not the Trent duds,
ReplyDeleteNot taking this competition seriously is a disgrace from the outset
I really do think the wheels have totally
Fallen off & on this form with a total lack of confidence & not much coming back to strength the side I will make the call now that we are going back to division 2 of the championship, that may be the only way things will change at the top table
Nothing will change. But will the members renew? Surely not.
ReplyDeleteOf course most members will renew. For as bad as it gets, there's always hope for next season. And the worse it gets, so the greater the scope for [hope of] improved fortunes next year. This season is becoming very trying for this member, however. Radical surgery is definitely required from the top down at the club, so we need a strong focused committee, prepared to make difficult career changing decisions. Have we got a committee like that? We can only hope!
DeleteCan anyone see what Peter Moores is even trying to do at this point? Ignore whether it’s working or not - what is the plan he’s trying to enact. If it’s taking the hit of a transition season to blood new players, why is he refusing to pick them or farming them out? The total lack of communication from the club, and the utter disinterest of media in what TB has now become, means as a fan I have no idea what the club is trying to achieve with this stuff. It’s all quite depressing - and all we can see on the field is a team that is now clearly worse than our darkest 1990s outfits.
ReplyDeleteAbsolute dire
Deletetwo days of rubbish in the me
tro cup, disgusting management, should be
Ashamed, time to go as soon as possible
s
With specific regard to the One Day Cup, it seemed clear that at the inception of The H*****d, the club took the view that this competition should be seen as a developmental opportunity for middle-rankers and emerging talent. This was similar to most of the other Counties who were losing multiple players to the franchise teams, and perhaps not an unreasonable position, given the circumstances.
ReplyDeleteNow, despite having far fewer players moonlighting in crisp packets, they don't seem able to change the culture in the team away from the bad habits that come with taking the competition as a development competition, and back to what it should be - a pretty decent opportunity to win a trophy, with a final on home ground, or at least trying to put a smile on people's faces in the process!
Is the club now in freefall? Are we back in 2019 all over again?
DeleteIt say's it all really, when a 16 year old novice is given the responsibility of bowling in the power play at Leicester. He never played again in the competition.
ReplyDeleteSingh, loaned out to Worcester, bagged more wickets than any Notts bowler achieved and scored 60 in one of the games.
Sammy King on the back of a 40 odd in the final T20 game never got a look in, and apart from a wonder catch at Guildford, Tom Moores wicket keeping was dreadful.
Backing the wrong horses 24/7 and continued nepotism. The story of Peter Moores's tenure at Notts.
It would be interesting to know what the senior players at the club really think about the situation about both of the Moores's.
I can hazard a guess.
Peter Moores has been surfing. Surfing the web that is. He's spent most of his time on www.confused.com. Heard talk that the dressing room is split.
DeleteThe obvious lack of passion and belief in the team stems from a management that shows the same. But add don't care and family self interest eg moores the Notts prem league keeper.
ReplyDelete81 NOT OUT
ReplyDeleteSURELY SOMETHING HAS TO GIVE AT NOTTS BEFORE SEASONS END .
If , as has been suggested , the dressing room is not harmonious then the situation is even worse than the faithfull thought .
No one is saying a word of support for Peter Moores and favoured son . How on earth can they continue . Will resignations be called for at the forthcoming Members forum . Will anyone take on board what is being said by long term very patient and reasonable Members ! The various Club sponsors and financial supporters may force a change . Money talks - above all else .
Yesterday at TB I toured the whole ground a couple of times. Was shocked . One of the hoped for busiest days of the cricket season at TB and what do we find . Over TWO THIRDS of the food vans/outlets were closed . No fish n chips , no pizza , etc etc . The remaining catering was abysmal . Very high prices for bog standard unappealing fodder .
Why was the whole ground LESS than half full on such a glorious day.
We need a fresh team to run TB . The existing lot have become stale and simply run out of ideas .
The queue for face painting was exceptional on the other hand and there were balloon animals herding around all quarters of the ground too. They had run out of slime according to the gentleman that sat next to me, so slime had exceeded expectations [do we blame Lisa for that oversight?]. So not a complete disaster "fun-wise" on a Family Fun Day. It was too hot for hot food in my opinion any way.
DeleteThere only interested in supporting the Trent duds & getting the sale concluded
ReplyDeleteAt any cost
Nottinghamshire ccc comes second
Just look at all the coaching staff a the rockets all earning a wedge it's embarrassing again it's a conflict of interest who gets priority Lisa CEO of Notts & the rockets mick director of cricket
Of Notts & the rockets nothing will change
They both support Peter moors & as mick stated to me Peter's going no where end off, so to conclude to get rid of Peter you have to jettison Lisa mick & the chairman,
That will only happen with a membership
Vote of no confidence in the top table
Nobody renew membership. It would get in the cricket news and shake them up. But that's up to each individual. But surely nobody wants to sit through another summer like this? Bet Hales is announced soon for T20 - another living in the past move.
DeleteIf the dressing room is split, it would be interesting to know who is in which camp?
ReplyDeleteCalvin Harrison has always impressed me until what I saw on Friday. Something had changed. He looked completely cheesed off, and batted and bowled poorly. However, he is a talented young cricketer, but hasnt played for the Rockets, so no wonder he is frustrated.
Is there anything to read into why they are playing better away from Trent Bridge - Welbeck / Guildford was better.
I could easily see them being relegated from the top division of the County Championship at this rate too.
Obviously, Lisa is backing Mick, Mick is backing Pete, and the chairman of the board couldn't give a flying fig, apart from possible scrutiny of the clubs revenue and expenditure, on the odd occasion. All hunky dory then in the management dept.No need for change in their eyes.
ReplyDeleteTwo years ago I resigned my membership because of the direction of travel under the Newell/ Moores partnership.
ReplyDeleteI recently sent a two page letter to Andy Hunt the chairman, itemising my reasons for discontent . As yet , I have not received a reply, nor do I expect one. A solitary letter is futile. The only way to action change is for a number of the members to do the same, coupled with a motion of No Confidence signed by those members.
I fear, that will be the one and only way, for the board to sit up and notice, otherwise, sadly, we will be in the same position, this time next year.
If I wrote to a business - and that's what Notts ccc are - and did not get even a reply. Then as a paying customer I would walk away.
ReplyDelete81 NOT OUT
ReplyDeleteAnd so it goes on ,
And on
And on .
So much discontentment has been voiced here.
Will it make a jot of difference?
I fear not.
Is there anyone amongst the current Notts membership willing to rock the boat and start asking awkward questions and demanding proper answers?
Has everyone at Trent Bridge closed ranks and nothing negative now seeps out ?
It’s just one big happy family - so we are led to believe.
Pull the other one!
Unfortunately the chairman is a very weak
ReplyDeletePerson, it's Lisa who pulls he's strings she chose him so no one would challenge
The selling of the hundred, she would simply say don't reply, it's disrespectful full stop, the late
Mr measure would be doing cartwheels regarding he's behaviour
81 NOT OUT
ReplyDeleteYes we could do with another Phil Measures to help stir things up !
They didn't even reply to my then 11 year old when he wrote last year to say there was no cricket he could watch after early August at Trent Bridge. To be fair, this season is a bit better - at least the final game isn't midweek.
ReplyDeleteYou're assuming the game against Warwick goes to Day 3. Notts look to be in freefall on and off the field at the moment and anything is possible.
