Notts win the Bovril Cup as the Pear drops explode!

Notts took just over an hour to polish off Worcestershire this morning to win their opening match by 92 runs. Luke Fletcher bowling from the Radcliffe Road end had Choudhry leg before of the sixth ball of the morning.  Once again the conditions were cool and gloomy and after half an hour the lights were switched on once again. Adams dropped a difficult chance, diving full length at slip off Fletcher as Lucas had a life. Soon after Adams had his revenge as the former Notts man played on to his leg stump to depart for 12, 294 for eight. Jones looked uncertain from the start and in 101st over he was caught and bowled by Adams for three. Light rain began to fall and Edwards dropped an easy chance at second slip as Fletcher was again the unlucky bowler and James Cameron the lucky batsman. Last man Richardson was plumb leg before a couple of balls later as Fletcher and Adams both finished with four wickets as Worcestershire were all out for 299 all out, as Notts started the season with a 19 point haul. Cameron was left unbeaten on 27.

Unbelievably given the inclement weather throughout, the match had been completed without a single interruption. With Easter coming earlier next year, Collier and his cronies at Lord’s may sanction championship cricket for March 2013, have they thought of asking Bovril for sponsorship?

Wins also today for Surrey and Somerset in Division 1 and in Division 2, Derby. Yorkshire escaped with a draw against Charlie Shreck.
