Derby Day 1 Rain

Traditionally the biggest money-spinners for the domestic T20 competition are the London derby games. Tonight the first of these is at Lord's.

Surrey batting first were 36/4 at one of the multitude of rain interruptions; but this was their nadir as Matthew Spriegel and Gary Wilson both notched-up unbeaten fifties., 149/4. Middlesex were 99/8 when the rain descended for the last time, Gareth Batty 4/13, Surrey winning by 28 runs on DL.

The West Country derby was abandoned earlier due to heavy rain at Bristol.

There were additional rain offs at Hove and Northampton (9.3 overs were played before the rain started) but play was possible, almost in full, at the Sheep-dip. Lightning posted a venue par-score of 168/6 which perhaps should have been more but they were penned-in by Mark Turner and Chesney Hughes. The Sheep innings was suspended at 118/5 in the twelfth over, Derbyshire well ahead of the DL, as the rain arrived in Derby too.

Notts launched a new micro site for the T20 competition today - http://twenty20.trentbridge.co.uk/

Also today the club announced the team for tomorrow's "early" clash with the Sheep.

As before (the Foxes game) but Graeme White replacing the England ODI bound Samit Patel - the overseas player that bowls spin would have been handy tomorrow but we'll have to settle with weakening the batting.
