Middlesex v Notts at Uxbridge 2012

Voges ton as Notts build solid lead.

Big Ben Strikes Early as Adams rings in the wickets

Day One of Nottinghamshire's resumption of "proper cricket" had a delayed start at the Middlesex out-ground at Uxbridge.

When pay go underway, Benny Phillips made-up for lost time removing opener Sam Robson in the fifth over.

England captain, Andrew Strauss, playing his second game against Notts this year.

Adams Returns

With the score at 34/3, Andre Adams was introduced into the attack and instantly removed left handers Malan and Simpson in over 14.

latest score 43/5

Wayne Noon in an off-mike conversation with DDC was full of praise for Harry Gurney's opening spell, moving the ball off the seam. There looks to be little swing at the moment.

Rain was spitting as the players left for lunch 46/5, Strauss 24 not out.

Batting conditions or batting aptitudes improved after lunch for 40 odd minutes until that man Adams struck again; bowling the prize wicket of Strauss and then four balls later the Middlesex saviour at Trent Bridge, Ollie Rayner for nought. Tim Murtagh fell to another first baller to a streamlined Andy Carter in the next over but Andre Adams then wrapped-up the innings, Middlesex collapsing from 97/5 to 98 all out ouch in their First innings!
The 5 last wickets falling in the space of 16 deliveries.

Andrew Strauss 50
Gareth Berg 32
5 little ducks

Andre Adams 6/32
Harry Gurney 2/23

Post tea saw Notts lose much of their commanding position but still established a lead.

Nottinghamshire First innings 114/4 Rain stopped play and ended play for the day.

Riki Wessels 34
Michael Lumb 32 not out
Samit Patel 18

Tomorrow's forecast is a bit better before Friday's forecast of a resumption of wet periods punctured by out-breaks of rain.

In a summary of the other games that got some play today, all were disruption to one extent or another.

Durham were all out for 243 at New Road, Alan Richardson 4/52; in reply Worcestershire ended 100/2, Phil Hughes 52*

At the festival in Cheltenham College, Gloucestershire finished the day 147/2, Dan Housego 60, Ed Cowan 51* against Essex.

Lancashire took advantage of Surrey at a low ebb at Guildford, 245/3 Paul Horton 110; KP playing for the hosts however.

Josh Cobb got off to a winning start as captain when the Foxes had a 33 run win in the Pro40 at Amstelveen against NL, Michael Thornely 86, Matthew Hoggard 3/26 Jamie Sykes 3/39

Notts build steadily on their lead.

A sunny morning on Day 2 meant that a prompt start was possible at Uxbridge. Lumb and Voges progressed at a steady pace until Michael Lumb fell to a catch behind off Murtagh for 50.
Middlesex then tightened the screws with Collymore and in particular Berg giving very little away. Voges and skipper Read stood fast and when the bowling changed the runs flowed again.

Notts lunched at 209/5 a lead of "Nelson", Adam Voges 53* Read 33*

Voges century, Read fifty and Adams out with a couple of crashes and a bang!

Chris Read went to a caught and bowled chance by Toby Roland-Jones after the Middlesex had taken the second new ball. Notts continued to push their advantage in brighter conditions.

In the 90th over Adam Voges reached his century off 167 ball with 11 fours, Notts’ lead 201.

After Benny Phillips’ dismissal for 6, the incoming Andre Adams signalled intent hitting TRJ for six off his first ball and then four from the second. Off his fourth ball, Adams was bowled! Notts 316/9. latest Adam Voges out for 105.

The instructions from Read must have been "hurry-up Harry", Andy Carter doubling the games six count off TRJ.

Notts all out 329, a lead of 231; 4 wickets each for Murtagh and TRJ

And as tea was taken the rain came.

This was the same rain that ended play at the Rose Bowl after 26 overs, Jonny Bairstow out there with a Golden Duck. Yorkshire 83/3

Lancashire piled on the agony for their relegation rivals, Surrey, at Guildford, reached 425/7 when the rain arrived there. Steven Croft 104*
