NSW v Queensland Ryobi Cup Final at North Sydney Oval

We went to the Ryobi Cup Final earlier to-day at the lovely North Sydney Oval. Queensland defeated NSW in a high scoring game. The maroons knocked off the required 317 losing 5 wickets. Chris Lynn hoisted a 6 with 5 balls remaining in the match to win a hard fought encounter.

Stuart Law enjoyed his first trophy as coach of the Queensland side. It all started so well for them as David Warner fell for only 14 caught off Ryan Harris's bowling. Warner had scored three centuries in his previous four innings and so was a prized scalp. NSW recovered well from that early blow to accumulate as the sun beated down at this glorious venue.Blues' skipper Steve Smith (61) and keeper Peter Nevill (70) led the recovery and put on 103 for the second wicket before Smith was caught by Khuwaja off the bowling of Ryan Harris. Nic Maddinson the 21 year old left hander top scored with a well made 76. The 21 year old left hander is one to watch . He was NSW's leading scorer last season and has started well again.

We found shade as others bathed on the hill of the Doug Walters stand and whilst NSW's score of 317 looked impressive the outfield was fast at this small venue

Queensland had the benefit of a terrific opening stand of 165 . Usman Khawaja who was named man of the match scored a superb 104 before holing out to Sandhu off the accurate spin bowling of Nathan Lyon. Lyon finished with the impressive figures of 10-2-29-1. Chris Lynn (58*) and the destructive Ben Cutting (41* in 21 balls with 2x4s and 4x6s) saw them home .

Cameron White of Victoria was named man of the series

The matches were shown live on Free to View , crowds were low apart from the Final. Notts favourite son David Hussey sadly was out for 9 in the game v. NSW and thus there wasn't a representative of any sort from the Green and Gold in this Final. I wondered how Notts would fare in a game with either of these States. Overall pretty well but the athleticism of the fielding here was impressive as was the hard hitting of many of the batsmen

Cheers Andy

next representative match I'll view -- NSW X1 v. England SCG 13th November
