v Yorkshire LV Championship at Headingley

Day 4

Yorkshire wobble but survive with a draw

At 5.37 the match was deemed a draw by the captains with a handshake. Andrew Gale's Yorkshire will view the result as a match saved, after Notts had them wobbling on 43/3 needing 294 after tea. Andre Adams 2/24

Earlier Notts had batted for two sessions at a steady scoring rate, ensuring Yorkshire, with their bit hitters would have to bat suicidally to reach their target. Effectively Yorkshire only had to bat until 5.00 but because of the excitement an extra 37 minutes, of the Tykes with backs to the wall gritting it out, were served up.

Taylor 96, Read 75, Lumb 49, Siddle 48* comprised Notts' 335/8

Day 3

ALL TO PLAY FOR ON DAY 4

Play got under way this morning and almost immediately Fletcher struck to remove Jack Leaning.  The wicket was soon followed as Adams and Siddle backed up the big man up but with Bresnan and Finch at the crease some stability was restored for the hosts' innings; Notts' problems compounded by Luke Fletcher's absence post-lunch. Ultimately Notts managed to dismiss Yorkshire but not before they had stretch an important lead of 42. Patel 3/13 Pyrah 45, Finch 45.

Notts, as has become customary lost two early wickets and with fading light, runs became harder still to come by in difficult batting conditions.

Notts had a lead of 17 (59/2) when bad light and  rain arrived.

Play resumed at 6.00 with 12.3 overs available.

Notts reached stumps at 102/2 (a lead of 60) as Taylor and Lumb  gritted it out.

Day 2

RAIN DELAYS THE START AND CALLS PLAY TO AN EARLY CLOSE

In fact only 37 minutes were possible; time in which Yorkshire advanced to 76/2

Day 1

ACCURATE TYKES DOMINATE DAY

Yorkshire dominated the opening day of this fixture at Headingley, after Notts had won the toss and batted.
Luke Fletcher replaced Stuart Broad from the Hove line up, Yorkshire meanwhile were without Ryan Sidebottom and their England trio Ballance, Root and Plunkett.

The Tykes hardly bowled a bad ball all morning and Notts struggled to lay bat on ball. The tempo was set when Jaques was badly dropped at slip off the games first over with Bresnan bowling from Kirkstall Lane End. Both openers rode their luck but with score on 32, Hales when on 12 received the ball of the day from Patterson bowled by one that jagged back. Jaques (20) fell next over a routine catch at slip as Bresnan finally got his man, 36 for two. Taylor was dropped behind the wicket then played a Chinese cut in a most unconvincing innings. After a paltry 10 had been added in 8 overs, Taylor (3) played his trademark cross batted playing across the line shot to the impressive Brooks missed the ball and was out leg before for the seventh time out of ten, a technical issue needs resolving quickly.  The innings was sinking in the quagmire as man of the moment Patel was caught at points off Brooks for a 4-ball duck, 46 for four.
Lumb and Wessels saw Notts to lunch at 86 for four. Yorkshire had pitched the ball up all morning and left the pitch and atmospherics to do the rest, it was was men against boys stuff.
The home sides bowling was not so accurate in the afternoon session; however the wickets continued to tumble. Wessels (24) became Brooks’ third victim as he caught at second slip, 90 for five. Lumb although not at his fluent best added 45 runs in ten overs with his captain doing the bulk of the scoring. After been badly dropped by Pyrah Lumb edged Bresnan down the leg side as Bairstow took the catch. His 45 of 100 balls with seven fours was the highest of the day. Worse was to follow in the next over, Siddle and Read who had earlier got a tangle that resulted in an overthrow had another miscommunication, as Read went for a daft run on the leg side the ball deflected to Leaning who knocked the stumps over. Read was obstructed by bowler Patterson as he had to complete his run well off the strip. He had appeared to just about get there although after a moments deliberation umpires Saggers rose his smoking finger and Read clearly unhappy with the events around his dismissal blew a bit of gasket. Read had played the most fluent innings of the day up to that point but departed for a 31-ball 30 with six fours. Shahzad lasted four balls against his previous employees until falling plumb leg before a duck as Bresnan picked up his third of the innings. Notts were disarray at 139 for eight, Siddle and Fletcher decided attack was the best form of defence as 65 unlikely runs were added in 11 overs. Siddle hit two sixes one off Patterson and one off leg spinner Rashid. Notts got an unlikely batting point. Fletcher had got to 29 when Rashid tossed one up, the Bulwellian hitting the ball into orbit where  Bresnan took the catch at long on. The batsman had crossed and Siddle then ran a single. One ball remained of the over it was obvious that Adams would not go for a sighter as he was caught by Bresnan for his second golden duck of the week. Notts 205 all out with Siddle stranded on 39 not out, Bresnan and Brooks had both taken three wickets on a surface helping the bowlers from both ends.

In form Adam Lyth fell to the second ball of the innings, as Read took the catch off Siddle. Lees was dropped at third slip by Hales off Siddle when on nine, but in his next over the Victorian had him edging into captain gloves. Siddle though was not at his best and was not as accurate as expected. Leaning and Gale had added an unbroken 31, when the forecast rain finally arrived at 1653 with Yorkshire 52 for two. Notts are not out of this game yet, but need to be at their bowling best today. The weather channel predicts a day of continuous showers today whereas the BBC seem to think after early morning rain it will be a relatively dry day.
