v Lancashire Lightning RLODC at Stanley Park, Blackpool

MATCH ABANDONED AT BLACKPOOL

Rain was only the winner today at Stanley Park as only 33 overs play were possible. Lancashire were well placed at 157 for one with wickets in a hand to get a score in excess of 325.

Notts meanwhile bowled steadily but without carrying much of a threat.

The ground had improved since my last visit 11 years ago. Temporary stands had been erected on the banks at the southern end and there is a permanent stand to the west of the ground. The Pavilion is situated in the north western corner of the ground.

Notts won the toss and elected to field, Ball replacing Hutton from the Warwickshire victory. In front of crowd of around 2,000 Lancashire got off to a slowish start.

Gurney opened up from the Southern End and Fletcher from the Northern End. In the fifth over of the day Gurney bowled Smith for a 16 ball duck, six for one.  Indeed the score stood at nineteen for one after eight overs. Gradually though the scoring rate increased. Ball replaced Gurney. The fifty came up in the 14th over. Fletcher was hit for the only six of the day by Luke Procter and then came off after bowling eight overs on the bounce for 27 runs. Christian surprisingly replaced him and bowled for four overs for 25. The 100 came up in 22nd over as Petersen hit Christian for successive fours.  Notts' ground fielding was mediocre but no catches were dropped. The 100 partnership between Petersen and Procter came in  the next over. Ball not looking threatening bowled six overs for 27 and was in turn replaced by Samit Patel from the Southern End. Mullaney replaced Christian. The 150 came up in the 31st over as light rain began to fall. The precipitation  gradually got faster and players left the field shortly after 1300 with Lancashire 157 for 1 after 33 overs with Peterson on 73 and Procter on 63. Rain was initially light but at around 1515 the rain  got heavier and the game was called off at 1620. MAG
