My fear has always been that this forthcoming Members Forum is just a fait accomplis, and Lisa will just tell the membership that she backs the plan and there isn't an alternative and everyone is to lump it! County Cricket will be further marginalised and will wither and died a slow death over the next ten years with Test Cricket being replaced by more of the same T20 thrash and crash trash!
Possibly there will be a split in the sport, T20 going one way and Proper cricket taking a different route....
Or maybe you have a differing opinion.
Do you know that there's a Members' Forum in January?
With the winter edition of the Covered Magazine, Nottinghamshire members would have also received a letter from the club.
However, there were two different letters sent out to members, but each member only received one of the letters, not both: one from Lisa Pursehouse inviting you to a Members' Forum in the Randall Suite on January 23rd at 7PM, the other from Bev Soar, spinning the benefits of club membership with no mention of the Forum.
As I received only the letter from Bev, I don't know what else was included in the Lisa letter - perhaps someone would like to share - I'll post it below if someone wishes to send it to me.
I doubt there's any great conspiracy, it's probably the case that those that have renewed early have had the Lisa letter, whilst those that wait for the new year before renewing have had a letter encouraging them to renew from Bev.
Members, with strong views about the intended drastic changes to the whole county game, memberships renewed or not, would perhaps be encouraged to get down to the ground on 23rd January, especially as Lisa does appear to be misrepresenting us in talks. Of course, you may be excited by the prospect of Nottingham Sheriffs or whatevers taking centre stage at Trent Bridge, whilst the county championship is reduced to a handful of games in the spring and then in the autumn.
I feel privileged now But not completely fooled More cricket for pissheads is coming Lisa will no doubt dress it up differently
ReplyDeleteHave written to Lisa,re Monday CC starts & members anti Franchises as I am concerned there is an attempt to let time take steam from issue, then in it comes.
ReplyDeleteThis morning I've received a copy of this letter from Notts CCC, dated 22/12
ReplyDeleteSeems as though ECB have got majorities needed to get 8 team T20 through. Prob : Teams regional, not city names. TV rights close to done.
ReplyDeleteRichard D
Thanks Harry for keeping us up to date. The deed seems to be done. My 2 questions would be 1) How come counties are changed to be "stakeholders" of the new 8 teams, not owners as previously stated (ECB being the owners) ? Think I know the answer, but Lisa will not give it, counties position as solid as quick sand. 2) Which "free to air" TV channel to get some coverage of new competition (some obscure Sky free to air thing or ITV/ C5 etc), and how much coverage ?
ReplyDeleteLiquidation of Bradford Bulls RL shows, franchising is high cost.
ReplyDeleteTo thrive, it needs years of success, not just a brief surge.
At the very least 18 counties must insist on control of New Comp
Or they will lose their income & may carry losses of new comp
I share your fears that its going to be presented as a fait accompli. The way the letter comes across does make me think that they're going to support it regardless of the views of the members.
ReplyDeleteI did come across this blog post (through the Save Our Counties site) which raises a number of very valid questions:

As the original post dates from October some of the points have been addressed, if only partially, but others are definitely worth raising.
