Root Will be the Next England Skipper

13/02/17

The ECB have opted for the obvious course of action and have made England's only world class batsman their next new test Captain.

Will it be a route to success or oblivion?

The smart money says Joe Root will be made Alastair Cook's successor as England Test Skipper...

... but Graeme Swann wants his former teammate Stuart Broad, to allow Root to concentrate on being the best batsman that he can possibly be.

Ben Stokes has also been interviewed for the job.

  1. With Broad bowling we struggle to get 80 overs in a day,as captain this would be down to 70.Hardly a good move when test cricket is fighting for its life.

    1. Good point, however he would be held responsible by the officials and would accordingly be fined / suspended from match/es as a result for persistent failures to maintain a decent rate.

  2. Point taken, but Test Cricket is hardly value for money, supporters are being short changed, when quotas not met.

    1. As far as the ECB are concerned, Test cricket is their golden goose but they're looking to monopolise all the revenues by crushing Blast, where some counties have been able to balance their books thanks to their income from that, and introducing a centralised fudge of meaningless hype, which will either fly or crash and burn, taking counties down with it.

ECB charge what they can get away with for Tests in this country. Blame the rich sods that pay over the odds for a day's play - 80 overs or whatever it is.

  3. Yes they can charge what they like whilst the over rich & corperates rarely have to dip into their own wallets. Some one may have paid for them, but watching is low on the itinery.I mean, how can concentrate on ones PRAWN sarnies & watch cricket @ the same time.Cricket is fast becoming a vehicle for making money and nothing else. The start of this is down to a certain T V company!

  4. If fines & suspensions are in place now ,[as I am aware],why do we only get well below that figure so often.
