NWT20 Blast Finals Day Preview

30/08/17ECB Stick their oar in.

ECB have announced that Chris Woakes, Mason Crane and Stuart Broad will be made available for Finals Day.

Are Notts now obliged to select Stuart, even through he has no T20 form to call upon in 2017?

Who Will Out-Shoot the Other Sharp Shooters?

Tickets bought..... some had been queuing since 11 PM Friday night.

Outlaws are in the second match, for a change, courtesy of opponents Hampshire being miles from anywhere and having to travel further than border-crossing Glamorgan.

Outlaws have been made favourites in some quarters, by those of more faith than myself. In a game, this season especially, dominated by big bats slugging sixes, the winners could end up being any of the four semi-finalists - all have their own imported gunslingers.

Semi- Final Match 1

Grant Elliott and Colin de Grandhomme v David Miller and Colin Ingram

Semi-Final Match 2

Shahid Afridi and George Bailey v Dan Christian

So have Notts missed a trick or will the signing of Ish Sodhi ultimately turn out to be a masterstroke on Finals Day, in spite of everything we've witnessed so far from the Kiwi? It won't be with Ish's bat however..... but Notts do have a homegrown gunslinger, one perhaps with a sharper aim and more ammunition that all the foreigners, Alex Hales, but of course he can be given out or even got out, it being a high risk occupation (slugging it out with a six-shooter), at any point of his innings.

The prize is there to be taken by force by any of the four counties, but it is Notts' turn and we have the fresh bitter memories from last season, to drag-up and to learn from.

The biggest lesson should be:

Don't change a successful formula, even if we are so disappointed with one of our eleven's contributions so far and Stuart Broad is made available. We don't need to change the team dynamics at this point.

Team unity is a strength.

  1. Very harsh but Stuart Broad comes in for Jake for me. Would be Harry but left arm keeps him in for variety and I think his death bowling is just superior

    2. I am having probs finding a Notts forum to post this on...here goes...
I have 2 spares for finals day, seats are together in Hollies stand and I will sell at face value of £61. We will need to meet on the day to do the deal as we are mates travelling down from Tyneside.
Seats are with us but dont worry, me and 2 others are Notts natives and supporters.
Reply please and we will sort out a communication method

    1. Selection nightmare. Will be very harsh if someone has to miss out, but team is stronger on paper with Stu in the team.

    2. You win nothing on paper Just ask Notts & Yorks last year on finals day Neither got past the semis

    3. Btw I'm not questioning Broads effort when he plays He always gives 100% I just question changing the balance & strategy that's got us here

  4. I fear he will be picked because of who he is rather than what he can do. I think they may bottle it and drop Root for him. Easy way out.

  5. I don't normally comment on selection but I feel that the same 11 should play in the semi, SB does not play well in T20 games.

  6. Straight from the horses mouth, he is in the squad but doesn't expect to play unless there is an injury in the semi final (or presumably in the last day v Northants or the rest of the week)

  7. We should leave the team alone, and back the players who got us to the finals.

  8. I don't think DC could be happier about how this T20 campaign has gone. We are seeing the rewards that a consistent settled side can bring. Only 12 players have been involved and for the last ten games the team has remained unchanged. It would be madness to change that now and a major surprise if it was. Broad no doubt will be in the squad but only as back up in case of injury.

    1. Everyone one here is in total agreement that changing the team in order to accommodate Stuart would be the wrong course of action to take. Let's hope PM is of the same opinion.

  9. I beg to differ. Sodhi has been a passenger. Broad is class writ large. Difficult decisions have to be taken. Bye bye kiwi.

    1. As pointed out higher up this list of comments: The likely victim of Broad's inclusion is going to be Billy Root - a soft target.

  10. To be fair to Sodhi although he hasn't set the world alight his figures are actually very similar to Samit's. They both stand on 15 wickets after 14 games, only difference is Sodhi's economy rate is more expensive. Bringing Broad in for Sodhi would of course also unbalance and change the dynamics of the side as it would hardly be a like for like change.

    1. Whatever PM's decision is, it will be controversial. As that is the case doing nothing is the right course of action.

    2. The difference between going for 7 an over (Samit) and 10 an over (Sodhi) in T20 cricket hardly needs stressing. I would hazard a guess that 80% of scores fall between 140 and 200 with those nearer 200 likely to be winning scores and vice versa. BUT Edgbaston CAN favour spin and who'd bet against Dawson and Crane giving the Notts batsmen plenty to think about.

Whatever, C'MON NOTTS, we're all with you.
