Nottinghamshire One Day Cup Home Fixtures 2019

27/11/18

The @TrentBridge graphic fails to mention the the venue for the fourth game is yet to be confirmed - where will it be held?

Welbeck, Grantham, Abu Dhabi, Sleaford - it doesn't matter where, it's being played on a Friday, like two other of the fixtures - the competition downgrade begins a year early as far as Nottinghamshire is concerned.

Just 1 home game at a weekend - away we have 2 on Sundays and another that's on a Bank Holiday.

Do they want kids to come and watch, to follow on from Family Fun Day success of 2018?

In all likelihood the Yorkshire game will be the Family Fun Day 2019; weather permitting there'll be a bumper crowd again and the club will say it's a runaway success again without any hope of building on that success.

Durham Bleak Venue Decided

The full itinerary is now released: Notts will play a home fixture at the back of beyond Grantham Gorse Lane - actually no where near Grantham railway station or an exit from the A1, which runs adjacent to the site, as opposed to how Notts are describing it.

Not somewhere where many could pop to after an early Friday finish at work, but the players are happy with the facilities so stuff the members and supporters, as per...

Yes, 14,357 for last years FFD provided a huge amount of 'spin' when proclaiming the club had the highest average attendance in the country and so this is what we get this time. The competition will be devalued and downgraded from 2020, but as Harry states above we are instigating this a year early. If the weather is poor for FFD and every summer in Blighty tends to be different it will be interesting to see the average attendance this time.

  2. The One Day cup has some hope of success in 2019, much less so in 2020. Hope counties fightback with very cheap entry prizes/free for children under 16, plus events like film shows, bouncy castles etc Defy ECB by making it a success

    1. It’s a second Xl competition, played often at second XI grounds. It will get second XI attendances.

    2. George, do we just lie down and let the ECB walk all over and destroy cricket. We need to fight back, though like everyone I am running out of ideas. Legal Protests, Members Strike ?

    3. Somehow we have to vote people onto the board that love cricket.

Totally agree Harry, pls see my comments under the previous post of "unhappy supporter". I would urge every disgruntled fan to email or contact the club in protest.

  4. Don't renew your membership. The alternative is for members to nominate others who are likeminded to stand for the Committee and vote off the current ones who do not represent the true wishes and feelings of 'ordinary' members. Committeee Nomination Forms can be posted out on request from Trent Bridge and you only need 2 Seconders to stand.

I can completely understand your frustration AndrewM1. The problem of not renewing, however, is a difficult one as you are effectively shooting yourself in the foot as it obviously means you will not be able to watch the team as much compared to merely paying on the day, or in the drastic case of not going at all. Would anyone condsider buying a membership at another County depending where they live in protest? Yes, regarding the committee, ironically there is someone standing for election who most people know who sits in the pavilion. They may represent the ordinary supporter in this regard and I suspect many will be voting for this person.

  6. Are you suggesting that TB does not host World Cup games? We HAVE to go another venue(s) so Welbeck and Grantham have been chosen. Please suggest superior alternative venues which can guarantee a decent wicket and decent covers, adequate player facilities and ample car parking within 25 mile radius of TB. I cannot think of alternatives to these two venues....and no we dont want to go to Derby.

    1. There isn't as you say, anywhere near to Nottingham that fulfills those criteria as Trent and Worksop Colleges wouldn't be suitable during term time either. Derby would be the closest but obviously most will have reservations about crossing that particular line. However, the club has known this dilemma was on the horizon for many years, built a carbuncle on the Radcliffe Road stand in readiness for pity's sake, but did sod all to facilitate Nottinghamshire CCC home fixture venues during the extended period of this World Cup, in a properly suitable location. Scheduling games at remote, inconvenient "fields" on working days, only rubs salt into the wounds for long suffering supporters. Where is the benefit to NCCC of having a Test match HQ if it's out of bounds for chunks of every season - only to get worse for the duration of the Hundred "folly/experiment".

Exactly MAGs that is the problem in a nutshell. TB has been complacent in not pursuing another venue down the years since Worksop has been abandoned. Personally, I would prefer Direby. Forget the local rivalry that haunts us in the narrow minded football sphere, I would suggest for most that is the better option. More accessible, better transport links and a ground fit for first class cricket,(for the fans who actually PAY the players wages) compared to the two options we are stuck with. And also, what is the spin off from hosting an ICC tournament? Do we REALLY know what profit it brings to TB? I'm not disagreeing with your valid observations, but for a lot of loyal supporters who work office hours, some with only 20days leave, to have up to five days of cricket away from one of the worlds best cricket venues is appalling. And now we have all the midweek fixtures thrown in as a bonus. And let's face it, it's not a one off, we've got the new hundred from 2020 also.

  8. BUT BUT BUT
But, is there a need to play a home game this season at Grantham or anywhere other than Trent Bridge? Notts play a ODC match on 28th April at TB, a full 19 days before a ODI against Pakistan and 33 days before any World Cup game, whereas Surrey play Kent in a ODC on 2nd May, just 6 days before the Oval hosts a ODI against Pakistan and 28 days before they kick-off the World Cup there.
What are the rules re: clear periods before hosting internationals?

Is 50over and Championship cricket almost becoming an unwanted necessity to Princess Pursestrings? Could you cynically argue only T20 in whatever format and International matches are really all they want to host at our world famous ground from 2019? At a previous members forum she came out with a spurious timescale needed when hosting major matches, which seems very hard to believe as other counties have played their own domestic matches well within Lisa's time limits?

  10. It would certainly be nice if we were to get some feedback from the club re the "away" fixtures, For a club Notts size their public relations leave a lot to be desired when members and supporters have very valid questions to ask about which direction the club is taking.

We all know that the club does look at this site , So why do they not take the opportunity to (hopefully) put our minds at rest and tell us how they see the club and the game moving forward.

Keeping their aims secret from the membership is not the way forward, We have over 8000 members , Now is the time to keep them on board and move the club forward ...Together!

Happy New year to you all.

    1. I believe that the ECB will make some details available about the new Hundred franchises, names etc, later this month. Perhaps Team Lisa will use that as a opportunity to make it known what their vision for the club (Notts CCC) is going into the future. Happy New Year to you too Zanga

  11. Anyone know of any new nominations for the Committee for 2019?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Andrew - we need a couple of new Committee Members who are sympathetic to the views of ordinary members of Notts CCC . The fixture list at TB for 2019 is simply appalling . I wonder how many of the current 8000+ Membership will renew this year ?
I am sure many will think long and hard at being shortchanged when the season starts in a few weeks time . How many of Notts 4 day games are being played at TB in the proper summer months ? April can be very cold and wet and September can get gloomy almost mid- afternoon .
I know we have to move with the times but surely things have gone too far ?

  13. An interesting but 'safe' interview with Peter Moores just put onto the Official Notts Site - but why is there absolutely no response to the concerns members are raising? He, rightly, refers to the iconic Ground at Trent Bridge and the value placed on the Members - but is he just saying that? The increasing gulf between the Members and the Club has to be addressed.
