Nottinghamshire Home CC1 Fixtures 2019

COUNTIES LOOK TO TO CORRECT ECB IDIOCY

...well some do
The Cricketer | 12/13/2018 at 3:26 PM
Essex are the latest county to announce they have moved the start of some County Championship matches to the weekend.
The start of their four-day matches against Hampshire and Somerset at Chelmsford have been shifted so they now start on the weekend.
Their match against Hampshire will now begin on Sunday, June 16 and their game against Somerset will now start on Sunday, June 23.
They join a growing list of teams moving Championship matches so they have more days of first-class cricket on the weekend, something which The Cricketer previously predicted.
SurreyDerbyshire and Gloucestershire have all moved the start of single home matches to the weekend, with Essex being the first to move more than one.
These moves come after it was revealed that 16 of the 18 counties will see less weekend Championship cricket than 2018,
Essex chief executive Derek Bowden previously told The Cricketer: “It is unfortunate, and we have heard from a few members.
“The ECB have had a challenging time with the fixtures as so many grounds are impacted by the World Cup, the Tests and women’s cricket next summer.
“It is a tight schedule, and grounds need preparatory work. It isn’t ideal. We will hopefully address it for 2020.”

Potentially only 8 weekend days play (1 of which at Welbeck) but the last of those days is Bastille Day, 14th July. Do we need a revolution?

No Championship cricket in May at Trent Bridge.

(almost) No Championship cricket in June* at Trent Bridge

No Championship cricket in August at Trent Bridge

No weekend play in September again

1 fixture lost from Trent Bridge to be played at Welbeck CC

Are there any positives?

* playing 30th June

  1. So once again there is no CC cricket at Trent Bridge for nearly two months over the July-September period,It's almost like the authorities are trying to placate Notts fans with the Isle of Wight and Scarborough fixtures... Nice if you like to travel,But speaking personally I would much prefer some home cricket throughout the summer!

I said they couldn't be worse than last year, well possibly they are. Absolutely appalling for the real cricket fans, some of who'm cannot get down to all the midweek fixtures. But, I suspect this is the start of things to come? It wouldn't be so bad if the reduction in fixtures, allied to the, I assume now what will be, the customary 4 dayer at Unwelcomebeck, meant the remaining six started over the weekend, but no let's play them midweek so it's even harder to get to the games.

  3. Fair comment on a recent post that Welbeck lacks cover on a boiling hot day or a cold one but thrilled that the North of the County are getting some home fixtures again after the demise of Worksop. There are a lot of members and non members in this part of the county who are keen followers of Notts and the name of the club is Nottinghamshire not Nottingham. Most counties are happy to use out grounds with sparser facilities so why should we not be spreading the gospel up north. JF

    1. If they sold it better with a festive of cricket, played over the whole of the weekend; perhaps followed it up with a SEC game to complete the week. As it is, it's the only port in a storm following the demise of Worksop and Newark. Blame short term planning by those paid to plan ahead, further ahead than just 1 season - AGAIN!

They should have developed Lady Bay. Out of term time Trent College or Worksop College might have been an option.

Well said Dave G, 'undred percent spot on with those observations. Powers that be should have explored those options. But could be worse, though, if your a Glam supporter you've got just a mere four venues,Sophia gardens, colwyn bay, Swansea and now Newport, so you've gotta travel to watch billy rooooooooot next season.

It's a fair point you make JF, but, in my opinion the venue of Welbeck is not really fit to host first class cricket in this day and age. Things have moved on I like to think from when we all used to attend matches at Worksop(do have fond memories of Cairnsy and Viv Richards hitting 6s out of the ground there. Also, Trent Bridge is one of the best cricket grounds in the world with world class facilities. It also has brilliant new drainedge facilitates and floodlights, thus guaranteeing play a lot more than an out ground can. So with all this in mind are we now saying only a maximum of 24 days proper cricket will be played here from next season? Completely accept your comments regarding supporters who live in the north of the county. I sit with many of these and I'm sure they will be delighted a 4 dayer is moving to this venue.

  5. For Mr Graves and Ms Pursehouse, Summer months are June, July and August. CC fixtures a disgrace bordering on an act of violence against Cricket

  6. The simple answer is don't renew your memberships - you can only effectively protest by withdrawing your support from Notts. Even that is unlikely, however, to make any difference because of the role of the ECB which, sadly, the Notts Committee and CEO support.

    1. That is reported as being the view of several county members around the country according to The Cricketer magazine. What you is sadly true with Notts, it may or may not make s difference to the Committee attitude. The Cricketer has done a detailed analysis of CC fixtures for all 18 counties, and there is 44 per cent less Saturday and Sunday Cricket scheduled for 2019 compared to 2018

  7. Please please put pressure on Notts to follow the lead of some counties who have moved fixtures as shown above

  8. The AGM presents such a limited opportunity but how many Members are likely to be on board? I know of several waiting to see whether or not to renew their memberships at the start of the Season - so not eligible to vote at the AGM which, very cleverly, comes at the beginning of the year when many Members will not yet have renewed.
