With only Samit Patel and Jake Libby selected from the First Team core, but with all of the top order lacking batting confidence and form, you could question the logic; if Samit and Libby were to find some timing and form with the bat but Duckett for example wasn't even given the opportunity to find some, what does the coach do?, It kind of makes playing Samit in this fixture a wasted exercise unless he's going to be out of the reckoning for the 1st XI for an extended period.
As it panned out, after an early rain delay, Jake Libby missed an opportunity making just 7.
A little bird tells me that Samit Patel wasn't even there on Day 1

MATCH DETAILS
Incompetent managers will find scapegoats to distract attention from their own performance. Samit is a fine cricketer who, along with some quality teammates, are suffering from poor leadership.
ReplyDeleteSo, Samit is batting like shit because of poor leadership? Seems legit.
DeleteGET OFF THIS FORUM 'Unknown' - you are clearly linguistically challenged.
DeleteNo.
DeleteLet's try not to offend fellow comment makers chaps!
DeleteBut no signs of coughlin, chappell or, apart from Libby, any of the other batting failures...how on earth are they supposed to find a bit of form other than playing in any competitive match going..??
ReplyDeleteNotts CCC website:
ReplyDeleteLiam Patterson-White notched his second big hundred in a week as Nottinghamshire’s Second XI started solidly on the opening day against Warwickshire.
The Academy all-rounder, who also passed three figures in the recent drawn fixture against Durham, ended the opening day at Lady Bay unbeaten on 153 as the home side closed on 274-4.
Called into action at number three when Jake Libby was out for seven, Patterson-White quickly lost a partner in Chris Gibson (23) before sharing in a third wicket stand of 154 with Lyndon James (54).
Patterson-White’s century took 130 balls before clocking up his 150 after 89 further deliveries.
Joey Evison is unbeaten overnight having contributed 24* to an unbroken partnership of 65 with the in-form 20-year-old, as Nottinghamshire regrouped from an Ethan Brookes double-strike that accounted for both James and Sol Budinger (0).
Apparently a couple of the top order, along with one of the white ball only shitheads, are on the piss abroad.
ReplyDeleteIf that's true, then fully deserved. With all those runs they've scored this season they'll be wiped out and in bad need of a mini holiday to recharge their batteries with the awful workload they've put their bodies through
DeleteVery sardonic Pack-man
DeleteWell, he was down on the team sheet to bat no.3 today, but obviously didn't appear. I'm saying nothing until it's been confirmed one way or the other(if it ever will) but there were reports down at the Bay today that he may not have been very keen on making himself available for the stiffs but I must reiterate this has NOT been confirmed at this stage of proceedings
ReplyDeleteWell one sure way of demotivating an established professional, who would walk into most other teams, is to make him play second team cricket.
ReplyDeleteHe needs to buck his ideas up and work harder at his game. Playing for the second team was an opportunity, but it has passed him by.
ReplyDeleteI think Samit will be following recent departures ,Wessels and Root, out the club very shortly.
ReplyDeleteHe wants to leave, and I am sure there have already been offers a plenty.
Not sure why you feel he wants to leave...?
ReplyDeleteHe is one of a very few that do have the club at heart, but he's getting on like most of us..!
And he has turned out for the seconds today, though not very successfully..!
DELIGHTED TO SAY PREVIOUS REPORTS ABOUT SAMIT REFUSING TO PLAY FOR THE 2s ARE COMPLETELY INCORRECT. I saw him bat today. Apologies if my earlier post may have given this impression, I was acting on info. given to me at the ground which was was obviously totally and utterly untrue and fabricated
DeleteSamit made just 17, Joey Evison 78 not out
DeleteSamit would appear, on the face of it, being playing for the stiffs on his terms. Batting when he wanted and hasn't bowled as yet in the first Warwick innings - it would be interesting to know if he was on the field at all.
DeleteWouldn't surprise me if there has been a bust up with management.
ReplyDeleteLooks like Patterson White will be in for the next game and may end up being his full time replacement.
Samit has too big an ego to be playing fo the seconds.
If I was a betting man , I would put money on him going
That comment is not from me - I would appear to be a victim of identify theft or at least an cheeky impersonator. My comments are accredited with a red font to avoid confusion. Once I'm back at my regular computer- I'll sort the cheeky so and so out!!
DeleteApologies to Mr Nottsviewer whoever you are. I thought that this name was used by a number of different bloggers and not one in particular.
ReplyDeleteWon't use again - sorry
NottsCCC:
ReplyDeleteJoey Evison’s unbeaten half-century was the highlight of a rain abridged day between the Second XI’s of Nottinghamshire and Warwickshire at Lady Bay.
Evison’s 78* guided the home side to 409-8 declared in their first innings after Liam Patterson-White was out to Tom Milnes without adding to his overnight 153.
The 17-year-old right-hander faced 179 balls and struck 13 boundaries in his patient innings. A partnership of 65 with Sam Hall (36) eased Ant Botha’s men towards their eventual declaration.
Samit Patel, batting at number seven, edged Ethan Brookes behind the depart for 17.
By close of play, Warwickshire had reached 189-3 in reply with Matthew Lamb unbeaten on 67 – Jack Blatherwick having taken 2-74 and Mark Footitt’s 11 overs costing 18 runs for the wicket of Daniel Mousley.
We all know what a good player Samit can be, But for the last season and a half he has been a shadow of the 2017 version.
ReplyDeleteThe question is what to do to return to his former glories,
Not an easy question to answer, Its doubtful at this stage of his career he is going to respond to more coaching, Equally putting him in the seconds seems at best a pointless exercise.
Samit is and probably always will be a big game player, Somehow we need to harness the ability he shows in those matches
He could also help himself by cutting out as much as possible his favourite pull shots, For a player with his talent to get out consistently to small variations of the same shot is pretty poor
can get back to that level, Of that we can be pretty certain whether it's this season or next only time will tell, All we supporters hope for is too see Notts challenge at the right end of the led
If this had happened 5/6years ago we mighht have been seeing a totally different Samit to day.Fletch learnt the hard way, look at him now.I would rather watch an honest player striving for his best and failing, than watch a big ego player who just maybe turn it on.
ReplyDeletei ve never doubted samits ability.could have been NO 1 in many respects . Application is the problem.orig anon
Perhaps the DoCs or Meal Deal Mick as he is now known after coming to the rescue with a load of sandwiches when the usual caterers failed to produce the goods at Lady Bay recently, laid back style of management did not help Samit and Big Fletch in their early careers? Has anyone been to TB in the last few days? Hard to believe it's OUR home ground now the ICC have taken over. Even some Notts staff I know were wearing ICC blue/red uniforms instead of their usual gear.
ReplyDeleteI thought that it was Lisa buttering the baps (as it were) as she's usually so adept at buttering-up the committee and elements of the membership already. Mick was just the errand boy in cahoots with Deliveroo.
DeleteGoes to show where the priorities of the club's management staff have (not) gone. Lady Bay and the Seconds is perhaps an inconvenience now; it makes no income.
As for TB
Get used to it Pack-man, Notts CCC will be a non-entity within the next few years if the likes of Harrison and Pursestrings get their way. It's nothing to do with promoting participation, it's all about the money, money!
ooh-er missus(as Frankie Howerd would say) Lisa buttering her baps. I'm contemplating purachasing some ICC Y-fronts. Yes, meal deal Mick, that's WHY they pay you the BIG bucks
