  1. Don't panic, all has moved on to important stuff like Whisky events, Gin Dates, Wedding Venue plugging now.

Just read the clubs u at the club, the players who actually take the field are often rewarded with 2/3 year contracts after averaging sub standard figures in the late 20s/early 30s

Sorry, dunno what went off above. I meant to say the club are recruiting a new sales exec. The skill set they need and targets to achieve would seem they are looking to recruit someone almost superhuman. In a nutshell, it's a pity the real people that count most the playing staff and coaches are not expected to deliver the same results as the commercial/business side of Trent Bridge.

  4. But the Whisky Night is a sell-out!!!

The ‘Masters of Whisky’ event at Restaurant Six on Wednesday 31 July has sold out, continuing a run of fully subscribed events.

The venue, which offers elevated views over Trent Bridge, Nottingham and the surrounding scenery, opened in the spring.

It has since reached capacity for two six course taster evenings with Tom Sellers, two Nakama pop-up restaurant nights and a ‘Gin Genius’ masterclass with award-winning bartender Dan Warren.

A second edition of the Gin event is scheduled for Wednesday 14 August, priced at £15 including three drinks again limited to 35 places.

    1. Do the CRICKET CLUB need to enlist the services of Tom Sellers to mix a better cocktail of players. The current blend continue to leave a bad taste in the mouth, even though on paper they are all quite palatble?

C'mon Tom, get yer shaker out, let's mix it up alittle!

Yes, you could ALMOST be forgiven for thinking the red ball 4 day aspect of Trent Bridge is becoming an inconvenience to the top brass down there. All they get from us is hassle, groans and whingeing when our endless run of disaster thrashings continues game after game. Better to have the Whisky, Gin, Cockail crowd and the Cafe Six fine dining participants alongside the Test Match/ODI purists and the T20 Friday night mob I bet the DoC&Princess Pursestrings are thinking possibly?

  6. Now we can add the Somerset debacle of 7-9 July 2019 - we need some Records to our name though so perhaps this one is the one to add to!!!

  7. Runs like this without sacking's could only ever happen in cricket, Imagine if the Forest owner had been in charge how long he would tolerated this situation.

Seems to me that we need to pressurise the committee, You can see what they are hoping for, Their ideal scenario is a good run in the Blast which would they hope shift attention away from our abysmal CC form.

Put simply we need action NOW! Not in 6 months time, We need the committee to do what it was elected for , Not to sit on their backsides on their comfy chairs sipping their G&T's...

    1. Yes there is truth on this but in reality,it would only be tolerated at Notts cricket club.

Newell,Moores and Co, would have been long departed at any other county.

Like you imply, the committee are viewing through either an alcohol haze, or have been inflicted with dementia which is impairing their judgement.

  8. well I suppose that dementia and the associated memory loss would help in 'losing' our recent and continuing record. I'd certainly like to not remember our Taunton 2nd innings. On the whole though it is a nasty, devastating condition.

  9. No doubt with a decent T20 run ,incorporating big attendances and massive beer/lager sales there will be collective amnesia at the Club with regard to the seasons results so far .
All will be forgiven and the problems the true fans know exist will be swept under the carpet .
    A question !
Of all the 10,000 plus prospective attendees at the first TB T20 match how many will be aware of the abysmal run the first team have gone through in the four day game ?
It could be that four day cricket is rapidly becoming irrelevant no matter what the 'top table " say over and over again .
Bums on seats is what its all about these days and its possible Notts CCC actually LOSE money staging County Championship games at Trent Bridge over the season .
But considering when most four day games are now played ( cold months ,poor light,) its hardly surprising that folk dont want to sit there for hours on end half frozen !?

    1. '75 Not Out' makes an important point and that goes back to exactly what format(s) of the game we want to see the most success in - clearly the Limited Overs attracts bigger audiences and more money - yet the 4-day Game (if we ever achieve 4 days!!!) is seen as being the far more purist form of cricket. I am one of that group of supporters who favour the raising in status of the 4-day Game, after all it is where players hone their true skills which they can then take to the other formats - I also feel that often the longer format contains far more intriguing and often surprising 'twists and turns' - it can be uuerly fascinating often after prolonger apparent periods of monotony.
So I want the Director of Cricket supported by the Committee to 'resurrect' the Academy to once again be meaningful and to play competitively on a weekly basis - it ought to be the starting point to attract the best upcoming youngsters and to give them a real pride in playing for Notts and wanting to progress to the 2nds and then the 1st team. I was also impressed at Somerset to see a large number of schools taking groups to the Match and being made a fuss of by the Club - we have to continue to build on the already successful Community Initiatives that we are engaged in and which do us great credit. It seems thatc ricket nationally, if not internationally, is at a crossroads as to which direction it wants to go in - those of us who are currently unhappy at Notts are perhaps the old 'dinosaurs' who continue to try to fight against modernisation with its increasing emphasis on 'hit it and run' and the associated financial incentives to those few 'big hitters' who travel the world to play in Limited Overs cricket. So, the resolution to Notts unhappy Members and supporters seems more around the 4-day game - many are not T20 enthusiasts - and seeing improvements in performance, I have to accept that is probably a minority view though but, hey, what's wrong in trying to fight for what I and many others believe is REAL cricket with all of its proud history and traditions?

  10. Philip ,I fear us old uns are pushing against the tide .
Its worth bearing in mind that many avid 20/20 supporters have the attention span of five year olds ( is that being a trifle cruel?)
Many who attend get pretty impatient if a six or a four is not scored every other ball .
We all like to see plenty of runs scored on these occasions . But a low scoring match with the bowlers on top can be just as enthralling . But not everyone sees it that way .
Some of the best ever cricket matches I have ever seen ( over a period of over 50 years) have involved three and four day Championship games .
But I fear I am in the minority these days and the great majority want fireworks ,and rock music etc .
I have to be realistic and admit that without the one day game producing fantastic revenue streams then its quite feasible that some Counties may have gone out of business .
As Max Bygraves ( who?) used to sing "fings aint wot they used to be !"
    How true that is .
But we all have to move on I suppose . Its called progress by many .
The nagging BIG question is this -WILL THE 100 BALL COMP be classed as progress or a giant mistake ? Cricket is changing for good (or bad ?)-and at an alarming rate .

    ReplyDelete
  11. "I wanna tell you a story" - Max Bygraves. Despite the doom and gloom I genuinely believe that our voices are being heard 'behind the scenes' and we should be seeing some positive action before long. Just like the growing enthusiasm for Steam Engines I hope that we can interest a new generation in the wonders of 4-day cricket - that was my introduction to Notts some 60 years ago - with, as you correctly say, some of very best cricket in those longer format games. To end up with utter excitement during the last 2 or 3 Overs of a 4-day Game beats anything the T20 has to offer. I don't see the decline we refer to as being an 'age' thing but commercially driven. As professionalism increased so did wages and, sadly, the County Championship long ago ceased to be financially viable so the other formats actually sustain the longer ones ironically.

  13. The current position re. the EGM Issue is to await what we trust will be the wise deliberations of the Committee.

Completely agree with the previous comments about The Girdler. He is becoming unlistenable. Far too close to the Notts hierarchy and players to do the commentary job objectively. Refreshing that this superb site, whilst reporting the facts accurately still, gives a much more balanced view of what the supporters really think about what is going off down there.

Any white smoke coming from the committee room Philip?

    2. No 'white smoke' as yet - they're still in 'Convocation.' We do, though, have to believe that they share our concerns and will act wisely.
