Derbyshire Falcons Vitality T20 Blast at Trent Bridge Abandoned

"The umpires have concluded that there is no prospect of play between Notts and Derbyshire this evening. Both sides take a point from the encounter."

"These conditions suit Adam Peaty more than Adam Lyth."
That post on Yorkshire's Twitter account referencing the Olympic gold medal-winning swimmer summed up the situation at Headingley and several other county grounds hoping to stage T20 Blast matches on Friday.
Rain caused the abandonment of all eight scheduled games without a ball bowled:
  • Essex v Glamorgan
  • Hampshire v Surrey
  • Kent v Sussex
  • Lancashire v Birmingham Bears
  • Northamptonshire v Leicestershire
  • Nottinghamshire v Derbyshire
  • Somerset v Gloucestershire
  • Yorkshire v Durham
All 18 counties have either three or four group games left to play as they bid to reach the final at Edgbaston on 21 September. BBC Sport

Somewhat surprising result for the Falcons last night? They seem to be gaining a bit of momentum. At the risk of it coming back to haunt us, Wessells deciding to move onto new pastures has not affected us greatly. He provided years of good service to us especially in white ball, but he is becoming increasingly inconsistent. Just hope the weather doesn't start to play a part in qualification, it is still supposed to be summertime, after all.

    1. Good point about the weather; the ECB should take note and have a rethink , schedule The Hundred for October 2020 as summers are so wet and then give summer 2020 back to counties playing cricket.

Mr. Graves and Ms. Pursestrings are already guaranteeing perfect weather, apparently, as if you throw enough money at something even the unpredictable British climate can be fixed they would seem to suggest. Sir Philip, we were talking about Cafe 6 yesterday, there's a six course taster menu with the top chef shortly and it's a snip at £175 per head if you were considering this elevated dining event?

    3. This is next year's rain we're getting now. Conserve it for next summer's drought. You have been warned.

  2. Very much looking as if the weather will be the winner again. 80% chance of rain.

  3. Choose your forecast website as you see fit: BBC gives around 70% chance of rain whereas the Met Office now give it as 90%. That is rain for all of Friday evening....The weather has the potential to make a mockery of the whole group which was shaping up for an interesting finale. Lancs have a fixture tonight against the hapless Sticklebacks, if the weather is anything like what we've got here, in Northampton, then they are likely to drop a point.

    1. Scratch that. As it continues to teem it down outside my window, the players are on the field at Wantage Road.

  4. Just checked the weather on Dark Sky ( paid for app ) for Friday, It does not make for good reading, From around 9am its suggesting it will rain pretty much all day, Admittedly it does say light rain to start with, So I guess we can hope, Somehow though I think it may be a folorn wish...

How long will it be before we have covered stadiums at the major Test Venues? Could sponsors be attracted to foot the bill for this? It seems awful that in 2019 a major Ashes encounter at the so called home of cricket can be purely at the mercy of the unpredictable British weather and today's vital T20 encounter would have been played yesterday or tomorrow. Yes, cricket has always been like this and is this one of the problems and why a new fangled tournament has been created. There's so many other leisure activities around now and we are still stuck in the dark ages of promoting and advertising games, the first for two weeks and then it's a pure lottery of whether you cop a day like today or last wednesday or in our case away at Durham last Sunday. I'm not sure how feasible some sort of retractable roof is at the major venues but as they always say if the U S of A had invented the game, play would be guaranteed.

  6. It would cost umpteen millions and never pay for itself I'm afraid! The other issue, however, of flexibility to move Matches / have a 'spare' day set aside is emminently feasible.

Yes, Sir Philip, you are probably right, but are we talking about covered stadia or the cafe six? Interesting that Ms Pursestrings&The DoC were at Lord's yesterday apparently instead of watching the stiffs at Arundel for the 2s finals day

    2. Jealousy is a terrible thing!!! Perhaps we need to book a lunch in 'Six' sometime just to have savoured the atmosphere. One of our 'gang' spoke highly of the Sunday Lunch (or whatever it was) that he enjoyed there although there was also reference to having to pay extra for the vegetables!!! It may be that the Duo you refer to were networking for the good of the Club, or even their future careers! Rumour increases that Peter Moores may be off to South Africa and whilst we rate Ant Botha highly the Seconds certainly let him, and themselves, down at Arundel. Yorkshire here we come!!!!!!!
