Relegation Confirmed

Today the perpetual under achievement of the majority of the first team squad reached its inevitable conclusion when Warwickshire drew with Essex; Notts are now mathematically relegated from Division 1 of the County Championship.

Winless run goes on...

  1. But the Committee is satisfied!!!

  2. Looking at the table its almost impossible to believe that Notts only got 11 batting points during the whole season !
Thats virtually 50% less than any other Div ONE side .
A truly remarkable achievement (sic) considering the "batting talent" available to Notts for much of the season .
I am sure " the players worked hard" A phrase we hear over and over again . No doubt they spent hour after hour in the nets practicing .
But its got us nowhere !
One point that MUST be brought up at the Members Forum meeting on Tues 26th .
The pre-season tour -training/busmans hoiliday /team building and bonding has proved to be a total waste of time and money . How much does it cost to transport the Players plus officials plus hangers on to sunnier climes taking into account very considerable accommodation costs etc . This "working holiday" should be stopped immediately and the money saved put to better use !!
For example - - producing a free year book for the Members - as was the case until last year when MAGS HBD and Co heroically stepped into the breech to produce a fine product .
COMMITTEE PLEASE NOTE -- AND ACT ! Thats what you are there for ?

  3. No Philip, the committee is not satisfied as you have been told on several occasions. There have been four meetings specifically to discuss what to do, including changes involving the Captain, coach, some of the players and coaching staff. The committee,in the last crucial vote, was split. There was supposed to have been a statement issued on Wednesday which never materialised. And as it was pointed out at the Governance meeting on Wednesday night communications is patchy to say the least. Even the Committee is frustrated with this aspect.

    1. So if the Committee are frustated too, who is it that is instigating the "cover-up"?

OK - quickly. I sympathise with Philip's view. In the absence of any action to the contrary, then we have to assume the committee is satisfied. That is what happens when communication is patchy and action is not obvious.

BUT - lets be positive: Here's a list of reasons why next season will not be as poor

a: Slater, Libby, Duckett and Clarke have all scored runs at div 2 level

b: They cant be as bad again next season

c: Full season LPW with runs to complement his wickets

d: Presumably the coaching staff have been planning for this since......June?

e: No World cup to disrupt any overseas signing - i.e. we keep them for longer (whoever it is)

f: Blatherwick/James/Bud/Gibson a step nearer the first xi: Creates choice/options

g: Our T20 crowds I reckon generate 500k more revenue (most of which would be profit I think)than 2 years ago (7 matches, 4000 more per match, spending £15-20 each). Creates playing budget

    h: How am I doing?

i: There are still international places up for grabs - messers Ball, Duckett, Clarke: Acting as motivation

j: Less distance to travel for away matches...…(for spectators I mean)

k: Broad has his mojo back based on the ashes series

l: Yes I am struggling now

    1. Evidently Broad had his mojo back once he put on his England shirt.

  5. There needs to be clarity and a sense of direction. I do not think getting rid of the current committee will do any good, but they have to be brave. Interview the people in charge of Cricket. It is fair to ask them to explain what went wrong, to say how we can improve. If some cannot do this we have to be professional all and make some tough decisions. I hate the idea of people being sacked, but in these uncertain times we need to get back imto and stay in the First Division

  6. I do respect the views of 'Unknown' above but'the Committee' by being split appear to have taken a MAJORITY DECISION - so the 'majority' decision has to be the opinion of THE Committee. I know that there are some on the Committee who are deeply unhappy but they are the MINORITY - unless we can replace some of the exisiting members then how can we 'ordianry' Members feel any hope for the future. We do not know what Plans the Committee have; we do not know what the Coaching staff intend to do differently; we do not know really what is wrong - but something most certainly is - we have heard of off-field as well as on-field tensions and misbehaviour and there is a clear view that differentail salaries may well be an issue - "why should I play my heart out for a quarter of what you get paid to play badly?" The over-riding desire that I hear from many Members is that the Director of Cricket needs to go and / or the apparent 'conflict of interests' which many members perceive in who he is directly managed by needs to be resolved - the Committee seem unable / unwilling to address that issue. IF the Committee is dissatisfied with communications then it needs to hold those responsible to account. I am sorry to appear to disagree with you 'unknown' but we need Actions and not words - although sometimes even 'words' would be helpful and appreciated. The 'wall of silence' from the Committee is, to repeat, unhelpful and disrespectful.

In respect of what you say 'JimG' next Season will be Division 2 Cricket - we are already relegated so will be playing weaker Sides - such as Derbyshire and Leicestershire - how will that improve our players? I take no pleasure in seeing beer-sales going up - it is just a night of excessive drinking for many who attend the T20 and reference has been made in the past of derogatory comments made against supporters by some visiting so-called supporters. There is little evidence that we will see much of Broad nor that he will do any better for us.

So I await with interest the views of Members next Tuesday lunchtime at our Members Forum. I fear that they will be unhappy although winning the T20 Final may put a few in better humour.

    1. I experienced all since 67. We had real problems with bowling before Clive and Richard arrived, but we got far more runs than this team. Bowlers win matches, if catches are taken, but you don't win with our first inning scores in nearly all matches this seasons

This is disaster for Notts - we MUST win one of these last 2 Matches to avoid the ignomony of not winning a Single Match in a Season for the last 52 years.

  9. Another Loss to add to the above Table! Can we WIN the last Match of the Season PLEASE!!!
