Season of Shame for Notts

from the Cricketer

  1. Well that makes for painful reading,I wonder though if the Notts committee will act on the salient points Michael Henderson makes

During the course of his article he mentions heads must roll, A few weeks have passed now since the end of our disastrous season, Surely if things were going to change then action would have been taken by now

You do get the feeling that Notts now that the season has finished and they have no members meetings to face will just sit on their hands.

Ultimately in this world you tend to reap what you sow, Seems very much that Notts bought a dud bunch of seedlings

Action needs to be taken now, We need to see movement from our somnolent committee, Otherwise LP's proud boast of our large membership will start to look very hollow indeed

Remember Notts , Actions speak louder than words !

    1. Heads must roll, this month before it's too late.

  2. The next Committee meeting is on Monday apparently!

  3. Mr Henderson has suggested with more guidance and gumption our season would have been better - strong leadership is probable what we do need, rather than the wishy-washy let's wait and see approach of the Moores-Newell pairing and their pals.

  4. What we need are POSITIVE SUGGESTIONS - such as why are we not producing Batsmen through our Player Pathway? Such as why do we not have a Batting Coach - never replaced after Paul Johnson left? Such as are the senior players setting the right examples to the younger ones? Such as is their a strong enough discipline / acceptable behaviour Code of Behaviour in forces? Last night Samit Patel made clear that the standard of cricket is not the same in Division 2 - so even if we are 'successful' it won't, in my opinion, necessarily mean that our playing standards and abilities will have improved - just that we are a good Division 2 Side. IF we are in a 'period of transition' then we need to know what are the expected outcomes; in what period of time and what will happen to key individuals if they are not achieved?

Perhaps Hendo(as I've heard him called) is reflecting on what would happen at most other counties, not the exception of Notts CCC and the cushy environment brought about by our former coach, who is now somehow the Head Honcho, where any success is achieved inspite of this as opposed to being actively and proactively planned. The only thing likely to roll down there is a sosage bought from the coop opposite.

  6. I just can't understand why so few Members / Supporters contribute towards this superb Site - it is superb and is both informative; provoking and inter-active. I am at the point of ending my own contributions because IF Members really aren't that interested - why bother? Last night at the Cricket Lovers Society Meeting Samit Patel showed more commitment and enthusiasm than most of the assembled congregation. Are Members so 'in the pocket' of the CEO / Chairman / Committee that they daren't speak out? At the forthcomingf Committee Elections my advice is to re-vote in anyonw with a doubel-barrell suename and vote out any longstanding Committee Members who may have a connection to Gunn & Moore! The 'old guard' has got to go if any progress is to be made. So these are perhaps my last - I am disheartened, disgruntled and demoralised by the lack of passion within the Membership - it isn't acceptable.

No, you must carry on posting Sir Philip. I wouldn't get overly concerned as I know a lot of supporters who read this superb site but do not post comments, for whatever reason, which is their choice at the end of the day. I also think some only like to comment on the days play which is fair enough also so by that logic there will be far less contributions over the close season. We KNOW at leat two of the Notts committee read this site, along with at least one of the coaches and parents of the Academy/Second team so I suspect some of the players do also.

    2. Please don't stop contributing here Philip. Your input is appreciated.

  7. I wouldn't be disheartened by the lack of comment. There's a lot of knowledge and insight on this site and sometimes it is just good to read. Nor indeed by the standard of Div 2 cricket. You can only play what is in front of you and confidence might be built.

I'm still minded to run for committee...Nov 1 deadline?

  8. Yes, November 1st - you need 2 Nominees.

  9. I agree with the comments !
NOT ENOUGH FANS WHO READ THIS BLOG ARE MAKING THE EFFORT TO REPORT THEIR FINDINGS ON THIS SEASONS ACTIVITIES AT NOTTS CCC PLUS THE AWFUL SEQUENCE OF THRASHING AFTER THRASHING IN THE 4 DAY ENCOUNTERS .
Follow the ongoing example of Philip Measures and Stonewall and one or two others on here . Get your thoughts down in print . Opinions count -all are valid contributions . If you suggest something or get shot down in flames ( its happened to me !)then so what ? It doesn,t matter ! Just post incognito , like most on here due to online abuse.
If enough of the current Notts CCC Members voice their dissatisfaction then surely pressure will force the necessary changes?
Too many at Trent Bridge have cushy positions and are just coasting along on very high wages but with very little accountability. None of us knows whats really going on at the Bridge . Its almost like a secret society . Hardly any important information of merit seems to escape from the Committee Room . What things are actually being discussed in Committee ? Are votes taken on important issues ? Is there intimation taking place from those of many years standing ? Why are no statements made about what has been discussed and conclusions reached ?
I know the Club is in a pretty healthy position financially and Trent Bridge is generally admired throughout the cricketing world . So the TOP TABLE have to be given credit for that .
But the current Membership is obviously not happy with on field performances . WE could easily see a reduction of 1,000 members not renewing next season . That would be a massive loss of revenue .
ANYWAY -- WHAT DO OTHERS THINK ! ?

  10. Sorry ERROR !
    INTIMIDATION - not intimation

Last year was the first time in 25 years I did not renew my membership. I'll renew when Newell leaves. I will go to games next year but not at Trent Bridge. Will go to watch Derbys and Leics and some Lincolnshire games.

Was it, measurably, 'the worst performance in the history of the Championship'?

  14. Without repeating all of the excellent points that have been made previously within this thread and others there is very little else that can be said about a season that needs to be quickly forgotten but unfortunately will be forever in the club's history. The Director of Cricket's views on social media are well known so unfortunately will have little influence.

As members, we have little influence, the ballot box is one but with only four positions on the committee elected each year it would take time to change the status quo. A lot of the membership are only interested in securing seats for international cricket so even if a number of members did not renew this would not be significant. Members can stand for committee and they would get large support from the readers of this forum but its not everyone's cup of tea. As Sir Philip has previously mentioned an EGM is another option; not sure whether members can raise motions to be discussed at the AGM. I very much doubt that the status quo of the committee would allow representatives of this forum to present their views at a committee meeting; a large number of excellent suggestions on how to improve all aspects of the club was discussed on a recent thread.

For those thinking of standing for committee, please do so and you will have our support.

  15. It’s an interesting one isn’t it, social media. We can have a view, but the pretext that it is negative or unduly influential is a bit narrow.

I don’t “do it” , save for a professional network site. But I log on here; read opinion, read detailed reports and read the stats which, over time, are quite telling.

So if Mick does have a negative view then fair enough, but I know all of us here are super appreciative of the effort which goes into the content here- day in/day out.

......probably need to get a form ASAP from TB for committee. CV is updated, ready for interview....

    ReplyDelete
  16. You are entitled to stand regardless of CV. You have only 100 words available to 'sell' yourself on the Nomination Form / AGM Voting paper. The 'interview' is just to make certain that you know what is involved in being a Committee Member.

  17. Assume for the sake of argument, and please accept my apologies, that I am too lazy to work it out for myself but (and just in case there are others out there who would welcome the information) when is the AGM? When does the pack go out? Presumably us mugs who paid to witness this season's shambles will not have a pack or a vote unless we have renewed our membership by x date? Can anyone post a link to the current constitution/bye laws (I am thinking in particular of moving some kind of motion, whether at the AGM or even an EGM)?

There seem to be people on here who have more knowledge than most and now and again someone names a committee member or two who are of a mind with this constituency but most of us don't know who is supportive of the apparent current policy that more of the same is what is good for us or are against it. I accept the confidentiality of discussions but it makes it difficult. I assume that most posters on here have written to the Chairman to express their disquiet but is it appropriate for someone to suggest anyone else who would welcome and would benefit in their efforts to promote change from some individual members' thoughts?

The point about membership and voting status is particularly painful. I am reluctant (for the very first time in decades of membership) to renew certainly until I have some idea of what the management and playing staff will look like in April - there is utter silence and therefore I assume damaging stasis. However, as this thread emphasises, also for the first time in those decades of membership how I might vote on important issues matters to me and pushes towards the need to renew.

  18. The AGM is held towards the end of February normally.

You are entitled to your own copy of the Consitution - also available to view in the Library ast Trent bridge - as are the monthly Committee Meeting Minutes some 28 later - after approval / 'sanitising'!!!

The new Governance (ECB led) Consultations should be out shortly - in time for Feedback and Proposed Consitutional Amendments for the February 2020 AGM.

I THINK that current 2019 Members are still eligible to Vote - but this needs checking out for absolute confirmation.

And, yes, to influence any changes DOES depend on the Membership but I am firmly of the view that the 'old guard' have enough supporters to get their way and we 'young upstarts' have an uphill struggle.

Paul is an Executive member I think and one of the people who are supporting change. Are the other 2 also supporting changes do you know?

  26. And the Committee has obviously changed its mind and so Peter Moores has now signed a new 2 YEAR deal as Head Coach.
