  1. A really poor Season - hope that he is treated as anyone else despite whose son he is!

    1. Doubt it Philip! In fact nepotism’s tentacles probably got hold of the dressing room sometime back. Nepotism always without fail creates a conflict of interests unfortunately. Even if not encouraged by his father, which to be fair and giving him the benefit of the doubt in this case it may not be, it is however probably being allowed to infiltrate itself subconsciously by others to curry favour, after all who’s going to be critical of the boss’s son. The lad looks way out of his depth and has been an unnecessary sharp step down in ability compared to others that could have been sourced and undoubtedly to his predecessor.

Guess we could possibly live with those stats if he was an Alan Knott, Bob Taylor, Jack Russell or the great Chris Read behind the stumps. Guess he's one of the by now tedious and boring excuses of falling into the category of young and inexperienced. Well maybe, so if that the case and bearing in mind Ready was literally unreplaceable, surely sign another experienced keeper/batter whilst he is learning his trade.

  2. But has no competition for his place, in reality.....

  3. I think it's fair to say that his first season exceeded expectations, to the extent that very few, if any, unfavourable comparisons with Chris Read were made. A second-season slump in batting form is hardly an uncommon phenomenon and, to be fair, Moores did try very hard to restrain his predisposition to attack in the CC, at least in the first part of the season, though the art of quietly rotating the strike is one he's yet to master fully. I didn't think his wicketkeeping really improved much this year - there were a couple of costly drops, some missed stumpings and general untidiness in receiving the ball back from the outfield - but he is young and we are using him in all three formats, in addition to which - at least in the CC - he was playing in a struggling side which was often on the back foot, so the cost of every error was magnified. Certainly this year it would have been very useful to have had someone of experience in this position (e.g. Dane Vilas, with his 1027 runs @ 79.69 and 48 dismissals in the CC and his 1734 runs and 72 dismissals in all formats). However, it's unfair to single out a particular player since there were weaknesses in all areas.

  4. Amazed that Tom has been selected for the '100 Clowns' Competition - is he really one of the very best limited Overs cricketers in the world?

    1. He's a very lucky lad - no way on merit did he get the Imposter Rockets 50K gig, wisely they signed a proper keeper too, Daddy should take note!
