Outlaws Abroad

13/03 Having scored 239 runs at 59.75 in the PSL, Alex Hales has decided to return home before the conclusion of his team's participation in the now shortened PSL competition. Pakistan is to shortly close her borders. Other overseas players remain however.

12/03 Samit's Qalandars were thrashed by 10 wickets by Kings.
10/03 No repeat of Finals Day for Samit  as Samit helped Qalanders over the winning line 11 (7) with a ball to spare. Earlier he'd taken a little tap but had creditable figures of 4-0-37-2

08/03 Less of an impact today by Samit (4-0-24-0) but nevertheless a win for Qalandars over Alex Hales' Kings - Hales scored 80* (48) but were Dunked out by Aussie Ben Dunk's 99* (40) on a batsmen's day in Lahore.

07/03 Samit on fire, 4-1-5-4, for Qalandars in another win over Gladiators, by 8 wickets.

03/03 A good day for Samit in Qalandar's win over Gladiators - 71(40) and 2-31

01/03

Alex Hales was back on a winning side; after back to back 29s he scored 52 (30) in Kings' win over United.

29/02/2020

Liam Patterson-White's stats from his stint with Petone-Eastbourne in NZover the winter.

22/02

Another ton for LPW (122* from 123 balls ) for Petone-Eastbourne in an unbroken opening stand played over two consecutive Saturdays of 199/0. Liam will return to England on 03 March for acclimatisation.

23/02

Alex Hales and Wasim Imad's Karachi Kings lost to Quetta Gladiators, Hales batting at 3, top scoring with just 29 (27).

Patel also had a a game to move-on from for Lahore Qalandars

11/02 This is not how the Notts website spun it but Manchester Original's Joe Clarke and Welsh Fire's Ben Duckett have had enoiugh of the indoor nets at Trent Bridge and so have been flown out to South Africa, at Nottinghamshire CCC's expense, for a spot of sunshine and to play on some real wickets.

06/02 Alex was unable to drag the Thunder beyond the semi final.

03/02 Nottinghamshire players' injury bad luck with England Lions has struck again, Tom Moores picking up an injury in training downunder.

01/02 Sydney Thunder's campaign rumbles on thanks, in part, to a 59 (35) from Alex Hales

30/01 Alex with 60 (37) - are you looking England?

26/01 Alex with 47(27) stars again for Thunder.

25/01 Liam Patterson-White's winter so far playing for New Zealand club Petone-Eastbourne

25/01 DC and Samit both rather anonymous in another defeat for Renegades, double double blanks for the pair.

24/01 Alex being a bit of a star in his team defeat, scoring 63 out of a below par 128 and then some theatrical boundary fielding.

21/01 an off day for DC and Samit as Renegades grasped defeat from the jaws of victory, with DC coming the crease 12 runs were required with 8 balls remaining but Hurricanes held out for a 4 run win. Samit faced one ball.

20/01 Alex 85 off 59 today, 3 sixes, 10 fours

1901 DC 1 but Samit 23* off 10 then derailed the then cruising Heat opposition 2/22 with DC 2/9

18/01 Another little duck for Alex today.

14/01 Jimmy Pattinson playing an occasional game for Brisbane Heat 4-0-33-5

12/01 Renegades again thrashed under DC stewardship but Samit Patel came away with a creditable 4-0-26-1

11/01 Alex Hales a match winning  55(43) 6 4s 2 6s

10/01 Samit done well with the ball - 4-0-21-1

The Renegades squad to face Melbourne Stars sees Dan Christian as captain in Aaron Finch's absence.

Samit Patel will replace an injured Harry Gurney as an overseas player at Melbourne Renegades

PSL

During these volatile times, it is warming that International cricket has actually returned to Pakistan. As an extension of this, the Pakistan Super League also makes a return to home soil.

Taking part in the PSL 2020 will be Outlaws Alex Hales and Samit Patel, neither of which can get an IPL gig to really cash-in and they will join former Outlaws Imran Tahir and Darren Sammy plus last seasons' hit of the latter group games, Imad Wasim (Syed Imad Wasim Haider).

Both Hales and Imad are part of the Karachi Kings franchise whereas Samit is with Lahore Qalandars.

The double round robin group stage kicks off 20 February with the final scheduled for 22 March.

  1. Interesting,but not that interesting.

  2. Samit is going to be a little busy, What with the PSL and the BigBash, Whilst I don't blame him for cashing in (after all cricket is a short career)Let's hope that when he returns to Notts his form is somewhat better than it was when he last doubled up on winter cricket...

  3. Samit is no spring chicken .How can he play cricket in various winter competitions and then come back to Notts refreshed and raring to go ?
Presumably the bulk of his earnings come from his Notts salary -so Notts should be given priority . We dont need a clapped out Samit trying to raise his game when our season starts . Samit you have been an amazing player for Notts over the years and no doubt retirement is not that far away . Why not concentrate your energy on Notts 2020 season and give the supporters something to cheer about ? Something you did not do last season ,when you were actually dropped ..
Its different for Alex Hales because his total amount of cricket played over a 12 month period is small compared to Samits . Look at the stats for 2019 . How many overs did Alex face for the whole season playing in the Notts CCC colours ?

  4. I doubt very much that the bulk of Samit’s earnings comes from Notts. A short six week T20 contract is probably as lucrative as a one year county deal. Doing just three T20 competitions a year a player can probably at least treble his county earnings. Hence so many giving up, or working towards giving up, the red ball game.

  5. Don't think Samit will be in the big earners category, but I take your point which is very well made and we have to be realistic that Notts is just one of his employers these days. Very surprised he got a go as Harolds replacement, but, suspect his mate D.C. had some influence over his wild card selection, so nice work if you can get it. 76no is spot on. Samit has been a brilliant performer for us down the years, but he was not on his own last season in producing extremely average displays at the very best. In his final year of his existing contract get back to showing the Notts faithful what you can do Samit.

  6. Agree with both the above. I wouldn't know what Samit gets from Notts - £100k if I had to guess - and whilst I don't think he will get that from DCs club, you can see how he might from the PSL plus Big bash.
But a short career as you both say, and no evidence that it brought him back in great form when he doubled up a season or so ago

  7. Looks like he's wintered well judging by the piccy on Pravda(Notts Twitter) but like he has always said "I never miss games through injury so what's the big deal with my fitness" From what we all hear, suspect you're right regarding his Notts deal, possibly quite a bit more though if you basis it on the Chris Nash Pension Fund. But, I've no problem with them getting these types of deals provided they do the business on the pitch for us and over the years Samit has certainly done that on a regular basis.

  8. 220 consecutive championship games before he was inexplicably dropped on the Isle of Wight ; how fit do you want him to be?

    ReplyDelete
  9. No, not me FRBB, I was just pointing out his valid reply to his critics when they bang on about him not being fit. He was made a bit of a scapegoat last season when, rightly, they wanted to get LPW into the side and we already had Ashwin. But in reality, you could have dropped one of the other batsmen just as easily as they were not firing also

  11. The Bash having a quiet year, even allowing for some of our players being there. Clearly Australia facing a terrible crisis and air quality a real problem if attending in some venues, I hear. Especially anybody with asthma best not to go. Also, as it has been (over ?) extended, top local players not much involved. Will be interesting to see crowds for IPL. Is the novelty of franchise cricket wearing off ? Speaking from a totally biased point if view !

  12. Just want to say well done to Stuart Broad. He is bowling superbly and massive role with Jimmy sadly struggling now. Also his figures for Notts disprove the unfair claims that he does not do well for us. A local lad we should be proud of

  13. Sounds like a miniature repeat of finals day today with Patel and DC for the Renegades ? However, Samit has done well out there and sometimes there's not much you do with one ball......ask Ben Duckett

  14. Our beloved Baz(Hales) is doing rather well just lately in the BBL it's fair to say.

  15. Amidst finding out about Outlaws performances overseas, can I just say Well Done to Stuart Broad and all the England squad for their superb series win in South Africa ? We have now won 3 successive series against SA, and 3 siccesive away series against them, the only team ever to achieve the latter

    1. Yes, well said Rich. and I agree to a point. But, have we seen an SA side as average as this lot since they rightly were reintroduced in the 90s. Smith, Gibbs, Kallis, De Villiers, Amla it certainly isn't and they're just the batsman. But, you can only beat what you're up against so yes very well done. It would be nice, however, if Stuart could replicate this form for the Notts side when he plays, as apart from a few match winning performances when he first joined, it's far to say hes been pretty average for us(only my opinion)

    2. For as much as the club harp-on about him being a Notts player, he has always felt like to me to be an England player that is occasionally allowed to play for Notts - he's centrally contracted and has always been, ever since he opted for the greener pastures of Trent Bridge after making his mark with Leicestershire. Yes he's done well this winter, stayed fit etc - he now has a lot of skills and knowhow. But will ECB allow him to demolish division 2 sides in April and May? I doubt it, apart from token appearances and then will he be at full-throttle? To serve any purpose for Notts, he's got to win matches!

  16. No politics here, but just to say I saw a fine match between Notts and Holland in the B&H Cup about 20 years ago. Their supporters were wonderful, some in traditional costume. Hope there will be such matches in the furture

  17. So pleased after what he has been through that things turning around for Alex Hales. Not a lover of franchise cricket, but even so, Well Done !

  18. But he fell at almost the last hurdle in Australia!

  19. Yes, a nice little blaster for Clarke&Ducky, in the absence of their usual overseas commitments and even more convivial as they're meeting up with dear old Gnasher who is out there also. Makes you wonder how players used to cope when they would have the winter off, report back in March at the earliest and then flog themselves through a typical English type of pre season fitness. Yet this, apparently, antiquated system still brought three of the best ever players through in Rags, Robbo and Johnno.

  20. Good to see Samit doing well this winter. Wondered at times last season if he had much left in the tank but the signs are good as he also did well in the BBL with his limited appearances covering for Harold

    1. Ironic the Rockets had written him off.

  21. Think Samit’s price point in the draft was unrealistic but wouldn’t be surprised to see one of the franchises include him as their wild card selection.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Yes, also if he doesn't start the red ballers could he just become another white baller for us ?

    ReplyDelete

    1. That’s quite likely I’d imagine.

    2. Both are distinct possibilities, I'd say. White ball contract and a wild card kerching in the summer.
