Vikings Covid 4 in Isolation

Yorkshire players Matthew Fisher, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Josh Poysden and David Willey will miss their remaining T20 Blast group matches after one of them tested positive for coronavirus.

The club has not revealed which player has contracted the illness, but all four will isolate for the next 14 days.

They will miss Wednesday's match with Durham and games with Lancashire on Thursday and Derbyshire on Sunday.

The quartet had already missed Monday's six-wicket defeat by Lancashire.

BBC Radio Humberside understands that all four were in close contact on Saturday, separate to the squad and away from a Covid-secure environment.

Yorkshire are fourth in their T20 Blast group and could still reach the knockout stages. BBCSport

Yorkshire coach Andrew Gale waits on player's Covid-19 test after selection disruption

Yorkshire coach Andrew Gale is hoping for a quick resolution after four players were forced to stand down from Monday's T20 Blast defeat by Lancashire under coronavirus guidelines.

Matthew Fisher, Josh Poysden, Tom Kohler-Cadmore and David Willey all had to drop out - but only one of them has been tested for Covid-19.

"I'm hopeful that a text will come tomorrow morning and that they'll be back in the mix for the Durham game on Wednesday," said Gale, whose side were beaten by six wickets.

Earlier in the day, Yorkshire said they were "awaiting results of a Covid test which will determine future availability".

And Gale confirmed: "Only one player has been tested. The family member had symptoms, but that player has come into contact with the other players outside our cricket bubble.

"With the guidelines in place, the physios and club doctor said they couldn't take part in the game unless that one person tested negative. Unfortunately, it didn't come through.

"They were sat outside the ground until 5.30pm waiting on a text, but unfortunately it didn't come. I full expect it to be negative, but you just don't know. You have to be careful.

"I don't really want to get into who it was. It's just disappointing we had those four lads out. "

Yorkshire made 145-9, which Lancashire chased down for the loss of four wickets with 2.1 overs to spare.

"To have the heart of your team ripped out was always going to make it tough tonight. Add them to Dawid Malan being back and we'd have looked a strong outfit," Gale added. BBCSport

Yorkshire move Durham T20 Blast clash behind-closed-doors after local coronavirus infection rate rises

The club had hoped for a small number of spectators to attend the clash at Headingley on September 16 but those plans have now been shelved

The Cricketer

Yorkshire have backed out of plans to host fans during their T20 Blast clash against Durham next week.

Headingley had been deemed fit for 1,000 people to attend the match next Wednesday, September 16 as part of the pilot scheme to return spectators to sports venues.

But a recent rise in infection rates in the local area has seen them back-out of the venture.

The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) announced on Wednesday (September 9) that Yorkshire v Durham was among four cricket matches permitted to be watched live by fans.

Durham's trip to Lancashire and Hampshire's clash with Surrey both on September 18 were also agreed to, as well as the Rachael Heyhoe Flint trophy match between Western Storm and Sunrisers the following day.

Fans have only attended one competitive county match this season, with Surrey hosting 2,500 for the visit of Hampshire last week.

Yorkshire's 20-over match with Durham was set to become the second but a wave of positives tests among the local community has led to the idea being scrapped.

DCMA says attendance of supporters at pilot events, of which football matches and horse racing meetings are currently part of, is "subject to locations not having local prevalence concerns".

Talks between the Department of Public Health Leeds and Headingley officials ended with a decision to close the game to the public.

A statement read: "All parties believe that this is the appropriate action to take due to the recent rising infection rates in local areas. The safety of our communities is paramount as we strive to prevent the spread of the virus."

Prime Minister Boris Johnson confirmed on Wednesday that the pilot scheme and plans to have spectators in culture venues such as sports stadiums by October 1 were being reviewed.

  1. So taking into account theccapacity of the Oval

What will be the max allowed attendance? R

Thought I've read somewhere 2500 initially Pity our Hierarchy are not one of those pressing for the trial games for the benefit of our members. Are we to renamed as Nottinghamshire County Furloughed Club instead as it would appear it's almost an inconvenience in accommodating spectators in our ground. Especially those who are less likely to spend a packet when they would be sampling the new Trent Bridge Experience?

  3. I wonder if a few fans will be let in for the Blast20 final?
Its now certain that the five day County BWT final at Lords will be behind closed doors.

  4. Understandable from Yorkshire, they at least have done their best to get some crowds in

  5. I dont think that Notts were overkeen to let fans in for bog standard County BWT matches. Too much hassle and expense .
But at least Notts invested in a much improved streaming system - which to me has brought the games to life- which is something the old static two camera system failed to do.
