Derbyshire Falcons Vitality T20 Blast at Trent Bridge (away) Win REPORT

 BANANA SKIN AVOIDED - JUST!
against battling Falcons

Notts beat Derbyshire by 13 runs in a close affair at sunny Trent Bridge. Notts looked to have posted an above par total of 198 for 6 on the same track as used versus Lancashire. Notts against previous form decided to bat on winning the toss; Derbyshire playing all their games this year on the road were nominally the home side. Chris Nash failed for the third match in succession, Hales (49) and man of the match Clarke (57) added 83 for the second wicket in 8.2 overs. Moores promoted up the order to four smashed 31 off 19 balls. Notts lost the way slightly late on losing three wickets in 13 balls. Both Derby openers Reece and Godleman fell for golden ducks but the excellent Wayne Madsen (68 off 46 balls – 10x4, 1x6) was involved in partnerships of 52 off 5.5 overs with Leus du Plooy for the third wicket and 62 off 6.4 overs with Matt Critchley as Derby were slightly ahead of the DLS target. Crucially Ball removed both Madsen and Critchley with well pitched up deliveries as Derby’s innings tailed off. Requiring 28 off two overs, they only scored 14 as Ball and Christian saw the game out. Matt Carter came in for the injured Fletcher as Notts went for three spinners. Christian elected to bowl four overs of spin the power play but Carter was only given two overs and Samit Patel had an off day with the ball going for 46 runs off four overs.

Six runs plus a bye came off the fifth over bowled by Madsen. Clarke and Hales found the ropes in the sixth over bowled by Melton, 65 for one at the end of the power play.

  1. Very hard to change a winning side that are playing well together. If Moores/ Doc selected say Carter and Chappel tomorrow and Notts lost , then the difficult to answer question would be asked-”
”why did you change a winning side”
Its obvious that Notts have a good chance of reaching the Blast final and ghen who knows?
This season will no doubt be remembered for the winners of the Blast Comp as opposed to the Bob Willis Trophy . Its just a fact of life.

    1. May not be the most popular choice but you can see it happening, Trego does offer more with the bat than Fletch and should manage four reasonable overs.

Personally with the likelihood of a used wicket being used I would give the nod to Matt Carter, Unlucky to lose his place to Wasim, He should be given the chance to show Notts could play 3 spinners and succeed....

  3. I said at the beginning oof the season in April that Fletch may not play many games for us . He has reached the age where moving that body bulk at speed at his age will mean pretty frequent breakdowns and it then takes longer to recover
Thats proved to be the case . Fletch is an out and out trier and his body is reacting accordingly with regard to age and miles on the clock ( total career overs bowled)

  4. Carter it is - and Notts elect to bat. Not the usual preference - potentially simulating losing the toss in an 'easier' game, in case we are put in to bat in the QF?

    1. Were they trying to test themselves? Why bring Duckett in so late, if they weren't?

  5. Excellent game of 20/20 cricket
Derby put up a spirited fight. Batting the way they did today its hard to believe they have lost the last 7 Blast games. Notts are NOT bowling sides out cheaply. Its ghe strong batting line up that is scoring the big totals that the opposition find hard to match. Nice to see Alex Hales back in the groove. He is obviously saving the 80/90 score until the Blast final itself . We all know he raises his game for the big occasions.
So its well done to Notts again . No one can argue with 100% record of Blast victories in this years Comp. Same again team for the next 20/20?

  6. Meant to mention a special word of praise for Samit Patel . His next Blast 20 game will mark his 100 th consecutive appearance in the Competition . Shows how he has kept his fitness and form since game number 1 in 2012.
So well done Samit . The guy who very very rarely lets Notts down
Any side containing 11 SAMITS would win everything!

    2. Whoever it was on here that invented the nickname double-corsets should be awarded ten free stamps on their loyalty card and get a free cup of tea from sergeant Wilson in the parr bar.

  7. Wow. 100 consecutive appearances is remarkable in that form of the game - especially for someone apparently not renowned for his fitness (outside of Notts).
I’ll be curious to see what sort of deal he gets at the end of the season.

  8. Fox RoadBoot Boy- - I first read the nickname for Dave B ( Double Corsett) on a posting on here last year i think by Sonewall Jackson who then shortened his name on here uto S. J.
SJ APPEARS TO HAVE NICKNAMES FOR A LOT OF THE NOTTS PLAYERS

    1. Thanks , great stuff.keep it up.its good to have light hearted moments from time to time.i heard double corsets himself say that Matt carter’s Nickname is mr tickle on account of his long arms the other day.

    2. Andy Carter was/is "Gooba" so Matt Carter, his junior brother, is "Jooba". Mr Tickle would struggle with the not touching people with your hands guidelines; unable to Tickle, Mr Tickle would have to be Mr....
