Notts Outlaws: T20 Blast winners get suspended sanctions following disciplinary breaches
BBCSport
Nottinghamshire have received suspended sanctions following a succession of disciplinary breaches in this summer's march to their second T20 Blast title.
Notts Outlaws breached the England and Wales Cricket Board's disciplinary codes five times in their 13 games and will be in line for a points deduction in 2021 if they misbehave again.
Notts' T20 captain Dan Christian has also received a suspended one-game ban.
It is dependant on how any Notts player behaves in games when he is captain.
The 37-year-old former Australian ODI and T20 international will receive an automatic one-match suspension should any Notts player receive a fixed penalty notice in the 12 months from the date of the hearing held last week on Thursday, 19 November.
There will also be an "immediate penalty of two points in the Royal London Cup and/or two points in the Vitality Blast and/or 16 points in the County Championship, to be imposed if cricketers playing for Nottinghamshire incur a further two Fixed Penalty breaches in any competition within a period of 12 months from the date of the hearing".
The ECB's Cricket Discipline Commission reached those conclusions following a remote hearing, triggered by Notts running up five fixed penalties in the space of five weeks, all in the T20.
The three-man disciplinary panel, chaired by Mike Smith, along with fellow former professional cricketers Paul Parker and Tom Poynton, took into account Nottinghamshire's previous good disciplinary record in reaching their decisions.
The statement noted "the honourable way that it had approached the charges but reminded Nottinghamshire that breaches of discipline are a matter of serious concern".
Cricket Discipline Commission imposes suspended points penalty against Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club and a suspended ban on Dan Christian
The Cricket Discipline Commission (CDC) has imposed a suspended sanction against Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club and its T20 captain Dan Christian following a remote disciplinary hearing held on 19 November. The hearing was triggered following five fixed penalties being reached by Nottinghamshire in a 12 month period. All the breaches happened in a five week period during the Vitality Blast in 2020.
The Club was given suspended points deductions for the 2021 season depending on the future conduct of Nottinghamshire’s players in 2021.
In addition, the Club’s T20 captain, Dan Christian, was handed a suspended one match ban, again dependant on the conduct of Nottinghamshire players in matches in which he is captain in 2021.
As a consequence of the Fixed Penalty breaches, Nottinghamshire CCC were charged with a breach of ECB Directive 3.6.21, as they incurred a total of five fixed penalty breaches within a period of 12 months, and a charge against their T20 captain, Dan Christian under ECB Directive 3.5, as he was captain on each of these five occasions.
The decisions were taken after a Disciplinary Panel chaired by Mike Smith, alongside Paul Parker and Tom Poynton.
Their decision will result in an immediate penalty of 2 points in the Royal London Cup and/or 2 points in the Vitality Blast and/or 16 points in the County Championship, to be imposed if cricketers playing for Nottinghamshire incur a further two Fixed Penalty breaches in any competition within a period of 12 months from the date of the hearing. The precise nature of the points deductions will be decided by the panel depending on the seriousness of any future breaches and the competition in which they occur.
The club captain, Dan Christian, will receive a one match ban (details to be determined by the CDC panel) should any player in a Nottinghamshire team which he is captaining receive a fixed penalty notice in the 12 months from the date of the hearing.
In reaching this decision, the Panel noted Nottinghamshire’s previous good disciplinary record and the honourable way that it had approached the charges but reminded Nottinghamshire that breaches of discipline are a matter of serious concern.

The only Trent Bridge Press Release since the above news emerged:
NEWSFLASH
26 November
Trentbridge.co.uk
News that can only reduce Notts supporters' access to Trent Bridge to watch Notts in 2021 and therefore diminish the value of memberships that elsewhere on the same website, the club are trying to sow a different picture, as they want your dosh.
Trent Bridge will host all Trent Rockets' women's fixtures in next year's inaugural edition of The Hundred.
The ECB have made the changes due to the operational implications of COVID-19, with double-headers and increased alignment with the men’s teams providing the women’s competition with appropriate visibility and exposure – including more comprehensive broadcast coverage.
The women's competition will, therefore, operate across eight venues in 2021, with this model to be reviewed after the first edition of the tournament.
"It has always been our intention to review the structure of the women’s competition on an annual basis, to ensure that we are maximising the scale and prominence that The Hundred platform provides to profile the women’s game," said Beth Barrett-Wild, Head of The Hundred Women's Competition & Female Engagement.
"Looking ahead to 2021, it’s clear that the wide-ranging impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic on the delivery of elite sporting events and society more generally, necessitates a change to our plans from 2020.
"The move to an integrated eight-venue model with the men’s competition next summer will simultaneously enable us to reduce our operational risk, protect the delivery of the women’s competition, and optimise the opportunity to work with our broadcast partners to provide maximum visibility and exposure for the women’s game.
"We therefore believe that this is the best structure for the women’s competition in 2021. However, with the women’s game transforming and growing at pace, it is important that we remain flexible in our approach to evolving this model in the future."
Trent Rockets' women's side, coached by Salliann Briggs, will feature internationals Katherine Brunt, Nat Sciver and Elyse Villani, after the trio's retention was confirmed earlier this month.
Finally a name drop, shamelessly trying to seduce Nottinghamshire die hards one more time
Meanwhile, Alex Hales, Rashid Khan and Joe Root have been retained by Stephen Fleming's men's team.
Hhhmm!
ReplyDeleteBad behaviour next season by Notts CCC players will be mighty costly.
The 5 incidents probably happened because of the intense pressure for Notts to have some success in a very strange season.
Will details of the actual ” incidents ” be released for general perusal?
I never consider Notts to be ” dirty” side so these suspended potential punishments come as a shock to me .
PS Fantastic picture ot the Trent Bridge ground . It looks like there is a massive fire taking place behind the actual stand.
It's called a sunset.
ReplyDeleteSpecial camera filter that shows the intensity of Coronavirus over Beeston
DeleteMy shock is increased because I had always believed Christian and his captaincy to be a significant plus and good influence in an otherwise very troubled club. I have also always regarded P Moores as an honourable man. To repeat, however, what I have said before about many of the evident problems at the club this, perhaps even more than anything else, is management issue.
ReplyDeleteYes, Cruet it is a very dramatic piccy indeed. Are any of the disciplinary breaches related to either Ben Duckett's new haircut, Steven Mullaney's apparent weight increase or the Restaurant Six sous chef being voted off Masterchef recently?
ReplyDeleteThe whole country, well whole World, is full of tension, this can lead to "outbursts" from all of us
ReplyDeleteReally seems next year will be better, and on the issue here, discipline problems on the field can be put right for sure
Think that the club does not need changes in management in these difficult times, and am confident that Mick and Peter are 100% for the pathway policy of if the ckub, of bringing young, and often local, lads into the team
What is less likely to happen first, Boris Johnson be tuned into the life of an ordinary worker, or, details of this story being reported on the club's Website or Twitter feed fondly referred to as Pravda ? Well done to Tom Moores on securing another T10 franchise deal. There's unconfirmed reports that he's already contacted the ICC saying these matches are just too long and there would be more merit in everything just being the one format of a 5 over thrash.
ReplyDeleteOne of them might have been the incident involving Hales on finals day - that led to umpires coming together, and commentator reporting there were issues with bad language -apparently Outlaws were close to conceding 5 runs for it
ReplyDeleteYes and Mullaney's fake fielding in the group game v Leics.
ReplyDeleteThought it was just a misfield not fake fielding, in my view a very harsh decision by standing umpires to give a penalty 5 runs
ReplyDeleteReference the five ” incidents”
ReplyDeleteRather than us speculating as to what these incidents actually were - would it not be better for the Club to come ” clean” and simply inform us as to what took place on the field of play. Just clear the airrather than sweeping bad behaviour under the carpet?
For all we know , all five incidents may have been committed by a single team member.
I think its better for the Club to be open and keep the long suffering supporters fully in the picture.
How about it Notts Committee?
Tier 3 - thank you for pointing out that the illusionary ”fire” shown on the photograph of TB at dusk is actually called a sunset.
ReplyDeleteYou learn something every day.
Dusk happens every day but not sunsets, as the sun sets.
DeleteDo we really need added pressure next season. We have enough for our teams to worry about without points deductions hanging over their heads. These are professional players so should act like it.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately Cruet, that would mean divulging the 'bad news' story which is forbidden it would appear on Notts Pravda. Ignore it, wait for it to go away or people to forget it and instead, focus and drip feed what you would call good news regarding players signing new contracts. It's better to live in a fantasy and make believe, pretend world where nothing bad or negative ever happens. The perfect example of this, surely must be Restaurant Six publicising they were to reopen and asking for bookings to be made, in the middle of a National Lockdown when they had no idea of what tier Nottinghamshire would be placed in, until today and inevitable it's tier 3. But thank goodness the season is4 months away as how unbearable would it be for some Counties to have a limited amount of spectators in their ground for matches.........and the rest us having to console ourselves with the live stream as non compensation
ReplyDeleteSurely Notts CCC OFFICIAL WEBSITE will mention the five discretions?
ReplyDeleteTo get a balanced picture of the Club we need good news and not so good news . Its not right to airbrush everything that might be classed as negative and just sweep bad news under the carpet
What I would like to see from the club is some contrition; a statement that if our players are regularly upsetting umpires that is disappointing and does not reflect the values of the Club and that effective measures are being taken to prevent repetition (and for reasons of principle not just because it might costs us points); that management and players have been "reminded of their responsibilities" and that they represent fans and members and that any serial/serious offenders have been appropriately disciplined. I don't need the details but I do want my club to be upset and embarrassed, like me, to have to be publicly reprimanded and penalised because of our behaviour and to commit to do better.
ReplyDeleteI would like to know exactly what has gone on during normal playing hours. Why be secretive? It just encourages rumours to gather pace and fiction can soon become fact
ReplyDeleteI do think a statement from the club would be helpful
ReplyDeleteNotts are known for good sportsmanship, and it is unclear what happened, but we need reassurance that that good reputation will be maintained
More good news.....it's endless.....Steven Mullaney pens a new contract as another one is drip fed to us on Notts Pravda. Still a good club man but would like him to start addressing his fitness issues so he can be of more benefit to the team across all 3 formats. At times last season, looked like he had a rucksack of weights on his back when on his bowling run up to the stumps. Would like the Steven Mullaney of 2017 to return as I'm sure it will. Still think he's as good an opener as anyone else at the club in the 4 day stuff.
ReplyDeleteYes - a fully fit and strong Mullaney is a must for next season. A keen Notts man through and through in the same mould as Paul Franks.
ReplyDeleteThe shape of next season for cricket as a whole is still very much in the air.
A successful vaccine available to everyone is the key to crowd numbers( or any numbers). I would love to be privy to conversations taking place these days at ECB headquarters. They must be formulating different plans for different scenarios. Will the 100 Ball comp be placed in the back burner for yet another year. It surely has to be launched with all guns blazing . But will that be possible . We wait developments with baited breath.
On this cold ,wet, miserable grey morning its the thought of warm , sunny days at TB that helps to keep us going.!
Suspect the 100 is even more likely to go ahead this year, whether with reduced attendances or with no spectators at all in the worst case scenario of the jab nor being effective or able to be rolled out in time. The ECB cannot afford another huge loss and vital broadcasting agreements are in place over the various media outlets. Having ploughed all this money in they will want to broadcast something with or without crowds in the grounds. The huge losses they incurred this year would have been even bigger, possibly, disastrous without the England matches against the West Indies and Pakistan. So, Cruet, I'm sure you can order your Trent Rockets "Hales" replica shirt with pride and confidence and look forward to this eagerly awaited extravaganza of white ball cricket at its finest ?
ReplyDeleteRef above.
ReplyDeleteI am hanging fire at present to see what develops in relation to virus control and its consequences for cricket next season .
So no mad scramble from me to re new Membership or buy tickets ( for anything - not just cricket)
Even more good news on Notts Pravda, the brilliant Samit Patel 58 off 38 for Dambulla Viiking in the Lanka Premier League T20 comp. to help his team to victory.
ReplyDeleteSome seriously mixed-up history if you have Vikings in Sri Lanka
DeleteMore good news for Notts Pravda as Samit takes 2-26 and then smacks 41 off just 22 for his Lanka Viikings but his team outdone by the Stallions with Tom Moores in their line up. A double win for Pravda
ReplyDeleteJust keep the good news rolling. Anything negative will be just too old to be worthy of a mention soon.
DeleteMore good new today...it's endless....and once again it's our very own Samit Patel with a nice little cameo and a decent spell of T20 bowling. Tom Moores didn't fare quite so well for his Jaffacake Stallions so this news may not make it onto Notts Pravda
ReplyDeleteHate to spoil it, but all of Notts indiscretions last season are itemised on the ECB home page under fixed penalty breaches 2020.
ReplyDeleteMore good news and a much awaited news snippet concerning our very own Stuart Broad. No, of course, nothing to do with his performances on the field for Notts but he has been shortlisted for the BBC's much coveted SPOTY award. Surely a good news story destined for Notts Pravda ?
ReplyDeleteStuart Broad has never really done much for Notts when he has been in the side.
ReplyDeleteBut he has bowled really well for England over a long period of time.
We have been fortunate to see Broad and Anderson bowling in tandem for England over so many years.
Stuart is a ” big occasion ” man . A noisy crowd and friendly ” insults” bring out the best of him .
I think on the whole he has set a good example to other players in the Notts dressing room. His playing days for England are bound to be numbered . I wonder when his England days are over whether he will pack the game in or give Notts a whole season of bowling?
