With no changing facilities or place to go due to Covid restrictions, what are club sides supposed to do for an hour?
On Saturday, April 17, all County Championship matches will pause between 2:50pm and 4:10pm to coincide with the funeral of HRH Prince Phillip, the Duke of Edinburgh. The ECB are also asking all recreational clubs to stop play between 3-4pm on that day.
A national minute’s silence will be observed as the funeral begins at 3 pm. Along with other sporting bodies, the England and Wales Cricket Board (EWCB) are in talks with the UK’s Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport regarding arrangements and is awaiting guidance. Last Friday two minutes silence was held at all nine opening Championship games as a mark of respect (PTG 3474-17210, 10 April 2021).
For me it seems a strange tribute for a cricket lover to chop a lump out of the games on Saturday. When I go to wherever I just hope I can continue to watch all the sport that I have loved.
ReplyDeleteWould not a 2 minutes silence have been appropriate ?
ReplyDeleteYes
DeleteAlthough I appreciate Prince Philip as being a thoroughly superb individual I do think stopping cricket games being played for such a long time in mid afternoon is going over the top?
ReplyDeleteI am sure that as a cricket lover himself he would not have wanted it.
As RICH says , a two minute silence would have been the correct approach
